Inconsistent Ramming Damage

Sometimes even a tap from ghost or even mongoose can kill going at 5 mph and kill you but than a full throttle max speed boost direct hit doesn’t always kill. sometimes it does as bad as just barely damaged the shields of a spartan. What’s up with that?

I was wondering that myself. While I was trying to complete the splatter commendation, I would frequently hit an enemy spartan with a ghost going full speed only to not kill them and flip my ghost. Yet, when I slightly tap anyone on my own team (by accident) they instantly die.

There’s an element of what you’ve collided with recently and the type of terrain that comes into play, among other factors. I can’t claim to understand it, but I’ve spoken with people who do and they tell me that it essentially amounts to RNG many times.

Faulty vehicle physics, another hallmark of 343 games.

well that seems lame since Ghosts are hovering so terrain shouldn’t be a factor.

OMG thats so me. i was on the other end of that. on warzone a teammate turned around and barely hit me boom dead. Full thrust into an enemy, “oh lol this ghost is like tickle me elmo” its “like really?!”

Distance + Speed = Splatter, not enough of either you will not splat, no matter if you are going full speed.

long distance i would ram, still nothing. teammate or enemy turns the ghost slightly and touches me, insta dead.

I notice teammates just need to poke my bumper to die in droves, but I can ram enemies at top speed and they’ll survive. Whether this is the fame’s fault or my mind distorting it I don’t know.

Sometimes jumping down onto a scorpion will cause a splatter too.

Does it have to do with what part of the vehicle you hit the Spartan with? I have noticed many people who seem to be very adept at splattering using the wings of the ghost but it could just be my imagination.

oh tell me about it, i splattered myself on a tank just by running at it. all he did was back up a little bit but i ran into it at full speed to board it from behind and it said i got splattered. yet full throttle at someone doesnt kill sometimes apparently.

Yep and don’t ever think you can jump and thruster onto a tank that is moving away from you because that’s a splatter too.

This.

Are you going uphill/downhill?
Are you going “full” speed?
Have you got the right angle for a direct hit?
Is the guy full shields?
Is there another guy close by causing your auto aim to follow the wrong person?

All of this and more leads to wonky splatter physics that have been around since 2004.

-Yoink- i have never had these problems til now. maybe once every 1000 kills maybe but not this often.

I’ve noticed it since Halo 2, the physics are wonky even in Campaign.

Your enemy’s velocity counts in a splatter. If they’re backing up, jumping, thrusting, it could all change the way they get hit.
It’s easy to hit your teammates because they aren’t trying to dodge you. When a ghost comes flying into battle everyone is jumping out of the way.
I have 374 splatters.

As for tank splatters, I think they turned them up since it’s so ridiculously easy to get boarded and die.

I hate this the most especially when i try to hop in a scorpion gunner turret and just die accidentlyby a teammate. Also when you try to kill an enemy scorpion and it ruins the whole super soldier fantasy i think of
