Inconsistent Matches

Hey guys, lately when playing this game I have been very inconsistant with my matches, I may go one round with a 13 K/D then go one thats 0 or in the double digit negatives. This has been really bothering me and throwing me down this frustration spiral which usually makes it worse. I’ve been playing lately on a default control set up with my sensitivity ranging from 2 to 7. I’ve been loosing dmr battles and all other kinds lately, I want to blame it on lag, but it happens far too much that it must be user error. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, I cant stand the notion of doing badly at a game that I love so much, especially with Halo 4 on the way. (BTW the game plays amazingly!!! You all will be amazed!!) Again, any tips or advice would be loved! Thanks.

Stick to ranges and use the magnum. It is a very good all-purpose weapon. I always supplement it with a few grenades for a suppressing effect. If that doesn’t work you could also try playing Firefight on Heroic/Legendary and using the weapons given to you in whatever playlist you play in. Might boost your skill.

Thanks, I may actually go try that, nothin to lose, haha.

But just a tip - The DMR is the best weapon in the game, don’t trade it for anything.

Also, look at some gameplay on YouTube to learn to tactics!

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for responding, all this stuff should actually be quite helpful, it may also just be the fact that after one bad game I begin to get frustrated, =P cant let things get too serious, well at least until you become pro, haha

I too had a similar experience tonight. Some of the matches could have been due to lag (quite a few black scree matches / afk teammates) but then there we a few matches where I just couldn’t find anyone or finish a kill (like a guy getting around the corner magically even though he was past one shot lol).

I’ve always used the sprint AA. I decided to goof around with Camo and Hologram and found I was doing better. I think changing up the AA helps a bit. Instead of me bum rushing around the map to get to the action I let it come to me instead. It seemed to help.

Halo is a strange game, some nights you play All-Star all night long. The next night it’s like a train wreck and you question if you ever played Halo before.

Stuff happens lol

If using the DMR, pay attention to the bloom. Shooting too rapidly will decrease your accuracy and may be why you lose your DMR fights.

I also have a same experience i’ve played games where i get 20 kills and i feel like king and then suddenly i get 4 lol. It really does piss me off but sometimes you have a bad gaming day sometimes you’re paired against some people who have better skill than you then next game they all suck.Halo can be a -Yoink- it puts your hopes up then the next it brings you down. lol

As I said above the Magnum is your BFF. I’ve won in CQC against shotguns with it. In my experience it also usually trumps DMR’s at all ranges and does more damage to the player’s health.

So, ive come to the conclusion that the factors that are making me less than superb at reach are the lag (checked in theater, its definitely there) the bloom (including weapon balance, dmr vs needle rifle for example), along with my inaccuracy. I went to play halo 3 yesterday, and after a couple rounds warming up into it and grabbing something other than the awful AR, I did many times better than my best at reach, I suppose reach may just not be my cup of tea. I prefer to play on a lower sensitivity such as 4, which in playlist such as rumble pit is near suicide to most players. My conclusion is I need to improve my aim )which I actually have begun doing as of late) and learn to compensate for bloom/lag. I definitely think that those two have been a big factor, as I watched a video of a game I did poorly at, and saw that though my reticule was red and on the target most of the time, bloom prevented my from surviving engagements, even while I timed my shots, lag came into effect when I watched other players fighting me in theater, one notable example involved a player on high sensitivity shooting me with a needle rifle, on my screen the weapon was ripping my shields and eventually killed me, though on his screen, his reticule was on me almost none of the time, I was dying from lag (dont you love how reach says you’re connection is great when it isnt? :p) Of course I dont deny I need to improve as a player as well.

> First one is always place yourself where you have the advantage over someone else, typically by height or nearness to cover.
>
> Strafing also helps, a good tactic for longer range battles is to strafe back and forth in and out of cover and fire a shot then. Admitably, I don’t use too much strafing though.

> I don’t remember exactly, but I think Bumper Jumper is close to Default, it allows you to jump and aim. A good strategy is to jump around corners and aim rather than walk around them. You can also jump at an intense part of the battle to throw off their aim. I don’t use Bumper Jumper because I took the easy way out by using Recon since it’s closer to Halo 3.

3rd person theater shifts the reticule to the right side a bit for some reason…
