Even if the flood isn’t a character in the campaign,I wouldn’t be dissapointed. if they truly want to keep the focus on the banished, they could put flood traces around the ring as easter eggs or hints as a setup for a future story DLC(ten year plan and stuff). maybe even hint at them at the end. there’s tons of ways to take this, and the flood being a main character in the main campaign isn’t the only way to take it. what are y’alls opinions on the flood and infinite?

I really liked the balance the original games found between hopeful/adventurous themes of the war and the sci-fi horror experience of the flood. Halo 1 and 2 in particular have a really spectacular progression that pulls the player through the worlds and keeps you invested. I love how in Halo: CE you progress from the revelry of pillar of autumn to the mystery of the first few missions on Halo and then have your sense of momentum crushed when the flood are unleashed. For me Halo 4 failed to draw me in, not only because the mystery was revealed so early but because the artistic design was the opposite of the brooding abandoned forerunner architecture I expected and the horror/mystery were gone. I’m curious if this was an effort to appeal to a broader audience/tone down the games. Halo 5 was the same deal for me… the Prometheans were uninteresting, the Guardians were too powerful to make the fight against them interesting, and there wasn’t really a compelling covenant character (since they kill him in level one…)
This is a long way of saying that the flood are a great enemy to play against, they are well established in the canon and fit the roll the game needs to be a spiritual reboot. Sure, they could throw them in later as DLC but that really doesn’t do justice to the feeling of a main campaign that falls apart to shambles as the flood are unleashed upon the already damaged ring. Especially considering how long the game has been in development, and that this massive campaign is the only thing you get for your $60, I hope they deliver a full campaign including the flood.
The Flood being in Infinite makes perfect sense. There are so many reasons why:
- As a spiritual reboot, nothing will bring Halo back to it’s roots more than the Flood.
- The current story sets up the perfect resurgence of the Flood. Cortana is unbeatable. Literally. The Banished bow to her power, and the UNSC is scattered and defeated. There is no galactic force that can stand against the power of the Guardians, Cortana, and the Prometheans. Except the Flood. Cortana plans to fire the rings, killing all rebellion, including the Flood. And the Flood will have something to say about that, I’m sure.
- With Chief’s added mobility (Grappleshot), players will get used to maneuvering around the enemy and getting to places that the Banished cannot follow on foot. With the Flood, you can no longer do that. The Flood can jump high, climb sheer walls, etc, and rely on numbers rather than strategy. Players will be forced to go on the defensive. It totally changes the flow of strategy.
- Zeta Halo is highly related to Flood activity, research, and history.
- The open exploration aspect to Infinite, as well as the day night cycle, can amplify the terror, genuineness, and creativity aspects the Flood already has, and the encounters that players have with the Flood can be much more intense and dramatic.
- The piano smashing clip, with the obvious jumpscare shrills, the dry ice noises, the pug noises, tasmanian devils, and the monster screech from the sound FX all hint at the Flood, at least a little.
- Promethean weaponry is designed to retaliate against the Flood. I really want to disintegrate a combat form with a Scattershot. Like, really bad, and I hope 343 shares that sentiment.
- The resurfacing of the Flood in other Halo media, like novels and Halo Wars 2, are not coincidence I think.
- Joe Staten’s interesting Tweet about “The Monster at the End of This Book” definitely hints at something secret and sinister.
- One of the screenshots from February’s Inside Infinite has strange green lights and objects in the background. This could be a resurrection of the strange plants in the Guilty Spark mission in Halo CE.
I think teasing the Flood at the end of the main campaign would ruin the effect. If you have a cutscene or something that reveals the Flood will be in the upcoming campaign DLC, then you will go into the game expecting the Flood. And as far as the Flood taking the focus off of the Banished, I feel like the game would be incomplete without the Flood, and it’s addition could be done flawlessly and smoothly and balanced.
343 are going to keep many secrets until the release of the game, and the Flood would definitely be one of those secrets. If 343 does not plan on Flood being in the game, then what is up with all these hints? I am convinced the Flood will be in the game. But my expectations are always low, I mean, I enjoyed Halo 5’s campaign the first time I played it. So no matter what happens I will probably be satisfied. It is best for all of us to lower our expectations on the Flood, which will make the campaign experience better, regardless of whether the Flood appear or not.

See you my dude are paying attention, kinda what I said in my last post, if you follow the details you kinda know what is coming and I guarantee it’s the flood. Almost every sign points to it. They are going to need the flood to fight against cortana and her army, but then again… they also will need to take the Halo rings back shortly after to get rid of them and everyone knows what happens then right? I see a very tragic end to Halo Infinite. There just may be a reason why this game is going the direction it is.
