Incentive to host competent custom games

Custom games are a huge part of halo and i’m coming across a lott of great ideas for them. But, the biggest problem with all the halos has been the lack of a custom games browser. I realized that they don’t have a browser because it would take away players from competitive matchmaking, so instead they just take the best custom games and throw them in a seperate playlist.

I think a good way to implement custom games would be through an external credit system.

Basically you would earn credits like you do in halo reach, through experience and challenges. But you would be able to spend credits to host custom games.

This can work because people wouldn’t host useless games with useless gametypes whenever they want. It will cost you to host a custom match, and also to join a match (although a lot less than hosting). I know the point of custom games is to have fun, so ‘fun’ can be used to earn your credits back, and more. The longer people stay in your lobby, meaning the more they enjoy your game, the more credits you’ll earn. This will encourage players to make good playable maps/gametypes, and more importantly they’ll be encouraged to play regular matchmaking to earn credits to host custom matches.

I’m saying ‘external’ because i’ve split my reward system idea into ‘internal’ and ‘external’. Internal being an in-match credit system where you can use the medals you earn during the match as currency to order weapons, equipment, or vehicles relating to the type of medal you earned. But of course that wouldn’t be for normal slayer, just for specific large gametypes like invasion. I’ll probably expand on that in another thread.

That would be cool and all, but I do believe that the site offers people to make custom challenges for custom games, matchmaking, firefight, and campaign.

I’m not sure what you mean. They can’t do it through a custom games browser. I’m srry, i forgot to add that the browser would still be used, just that it would cost you to host and join matches.

The problem is that ppl wanna make and play epic maps but can’t get anyone to play them privately. The small percentage of the community that can, is just lucky. It’s another feature to increase the longevity of the game.

It sounds like a good idea and could definitely work but when I’m with a friend and want to try out my map or another map to see what it looks like, I don’t want to have to pay to just start a game. Maybe X credits for every 10 minutes or something so that if I’m testing a map, it doesn’t have to take money out if I’m going to be in it only a few seconds.

nono that would just be a private match which wouldn’t show up on the browser, no need to pay for that. Browser’s only for public matches that you wanna host so anyone can join.

that would work really well actually, i always keep myself from making maps because i know i’ll never get to play them properly

It’s either that or deal with community playlists

Well that’s the problem right, everyone wants to make maps but no one can play them properly. Everyone wants custom games browsing but they can’t implement it because it would hurt competitive matchmaking so there has to be incentive.

or they could just not use the cR system for H4…

This is possible, but i’m sure there’s going to be some sort of rewaed system in halo 4. Without it, there’s no incentive to do much. It doesn’t make a difference though, i think the OP’s point had nothing to do with whether the credit system will be there or not, but with making the custom games browser less random and more regulated.

i doubt that, and yea read above^^^^
