“If you can unlock something in the Battle Pass, we’re not going to let any other players circumvent that by purchasing it out of the storefront.” - Halo Infinite Multiplayer Overview, 8:13
There are some Battle-Pass items that can also be obtained from the store, yet prior to release we were told that items would only be available from single locations. The Mark VII helmet obtained at level 96 of the Battle-Pass is also available as part of the HCS bundles in the store, among other Battle-Pass items.

The HCS bundles are armor kits. They have a coating and armor pieces that you can’t change. So you aren’t buying a Mark VII helmet item that you can freely use, you’re buying a set of armor with parts and colors you can’t change that just happens to have the Mark VII helmet equipped.
If you want the Mark VII helmet to mix and match with other armor pieces and coatings, currently the Battle Pass is the only way to get the helmet as a custom standalone item.

That is a very flimsy technicality. Fact is the entire armour kit aside from the coating can be replicated from the Battle-Pass, as it’s just a pre-configured arrangement of Battle-Pass items. Me and another player can be wearing the exact same armour, except they earned theirs through the BP, and I purchased it from the store.

I would also like to ask: If a future Battle-Pass contained ONLY armour kits, but you could buy those whole kits as individual customization components from the store, would that also be okay?
I never said it was ok. I agree its a flimsy technicality, but after seeing the progression system after 343 said “They didn’t want this game to be a chore” its clear they are going to take every technicality they can get away with.
