Let me say this first. I was playing MCC Halo 4 and was honestly having a great time. Halo 4 felt more like Halo to me then Halo 5 ever could’ve, and let me explain why.
Even though there was sprint, the game never lost its true core of gameplay. It was still slowed down compared to Halo 5. The spartan abilities weren’t outrageous, and because the gameplay was slowed down, spawning wasn’t as hideous as it is in H5 (this is also due to H5 terrible map designs), neither was it raging because of how much sweat you had to put into the game.
It was honestly fun. It made me tired of Halo 5. I also loved the art style of Halo 2 Anniversary, which (in my opinion) should’ve been brought over to Halo 5.
You also would die slower in the Halo games before H5, which is was made it more fun and more rewarding. This was also due to the fact that there were NOT so many damn OP weapons in the game.
I feel as if 343 are trying too hard or too little. Hard to say, but either way,
SPRINT IS NOT THE MAIN PROBLEM
It’s the rest of the game-build that is bothering people, such as:
- Hit-scan instead of bullet drop
- BR that kills people with 4 shots instead of 5
- So many OP weapons in the game, not giving an actual stats variation on any of the weapons.
- One-kill spartan charges (I.e. Spartan abilities)
- Others that can go on and on
Please, share your thoughts.
Sprint was so controversial, I don’t know why they thought keeping it, or even adding it in the first place was a good idea.
And before anyone counters me with “so your saying halo shouldn’t add anything controversial?”
No, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m just talking about sprint and the other abilities that follow it. Other wise I’m totally okay with them adding a feminine male spartan who decorates his armour with flowers and loves to kill covenant by dancing them to death and then proceed to T-bag there corpse.
No. And this thread is not needed.

Why? The other thread is lost in sprintits and pureists. I’d rather not get in the middle of that.

Sprint was controversial, in the way that 343 was trying to bring something new to the game by extending Bungie’s thought of it being a spartan ability.
My point was that there were a lot of other things that built up that were making the community mad, such as the rest of spartan abilities now. Also, I didn’t think the Halo Reach stuff was so bad, like Jetpack, which I enjoyed.

Sprint is the problem.
Sprint seperate movement from.combat. Sprint negatively effects map design.
What the hell does a 5 shot BR have to do with that?

See, you arn’t against change in halo.
All the arguments I’m seeing are:
If you don’t like sprint, your against change
And
If you like sprint, your a cod lover.

- No thanks.
- The H4 BR was terrible, why do you want it to be a 5 shot again?
- True. All autos are straight upgrades with out any distinction to the AR,
- Hate these

I’m a little confused,
are you saying the thread is not needed due to the fact that sprint is the problem?

It was the slowing down of gameplay. I will agree that sprint has caused some problems, but it is only part of the build up of problems. The 5 shot BR was just an example of how the gameplay was slowed down in the past.
I’ve said this over and over, in many different capacities, in my different threads through the nicest and harshest words, LIMITED SPRINT would solve this issue. The problem with sprint is that it doesn’t penalize players who are careless, it gives too much ability for recovery, and at times, can prove fatal when your shields haven’t fully recharged but you need to move out, and quickly.
The imbalance created by the balance is what’s the center of the problem. A lot of Halo needed to be readjusted in order to make this work, maps needed to be larger, clamber was added to compensate for the lost ability to reach high places by simply jumping, and the most obvious is the affect on the player’s first line of defense, their shield, is now linked to their movement choices. It’s feels like a lot more was thrown out the window than added in the end.
Sprint is and will always be apart of a lot of games, the need to include it in Halo doesn’t necessarily make it modern to these other shooters, it just makes it have an extremely similar make up like the rest. It was unique because of certain values and mechanics, now that very uniqueness is lost because of the need to change and evolve. Nostalgia or not, games were 10x better before the realization of DLC, micro-trans, and E-Sports; developers now just need to get their game tournament ready and have been resistant to providing more because they could get more money for giving less and spreading it out over the course of the year. Sure you can look at this as helping keep a game’s life cycle alive, but if the DLC is the thing solely keeping the game above water, then there is definitely a larger problem at the helm.

I thought of the solution of limited sprint as well. That’s a good option. And it seems that the abilities were just kinda thrown into the game without looking at the consequences.
Also, the fact that this is such a problem, makes e-sports for Halo even worse, due to spawn kills, and all of that stuff. Kinda disappointing that 343 made Halo an obsession with e-sports in the first place.
Strongly disagree with h4 being better than h5 (multiplayer wise). Ordnances and custom load outs ruined the even starts that halo was accustomed to, h4 had more focus on abilities than h5 (I dislike h5 having them as well but at least they’re dumbed down), h4 arena maps weren’t all symmetrical like most of h5s is and h4s arena or 4v4 maps were generally larger than halo 5s and I prefer the smaller symmetrical arena maps. Next was season pass dlc (h5s “free” dlc sucks too) that split the community where as h5 doesn’t. The only thing I’ll give credit to h4 that outdid h5 is they had real made dev maps but honestly I can put up with remixes and forge maps over remastered versions that have already been remastered. Besides that h4 campaign outdid h5 campaign.
