In praise of the Mantis

This vehicle is amazing. If it had a jump (like the wz bosses) it would be purrrrrrrfect. Oni variant is my favorite, followed by woodland. Hannibal variant is powerful, but quickly becomes a target for the masses. That stomp? Sweet , when you time it right. & can get to (& into) a lot of different places. I find the req level requirement is well balanced, & think in the right hands this mini mech is a BEAST!!!

I think the standard Mantis has been nerfed terribly since its glory days in Halo 4. That Mantis trailer sent shivers down my spine… The upgraded variants aren’t bad, but they’d still get rekt by the Halo 4 Mantis.

Halo 4 Mantis will always be the best one due to how good it was. The new ones aren’t bad though I like the Hannibal Mantis.

My favorite is the Hannibal. That thing’s a beast.

The Hannibal Mantis is an unfrig waiting to happen if you are smart with it and don’t go rolling into battle like Rambo. Love that thing!

Did you just mention “glory days” and “Halo 4” in the same sentence?

Sigh… Yes, yes I did. Halo 4 had some damn good aspects.

Spartan Ops was kinda cool.

Yeah, I enjoyed it. It wasn’t the best story, but it wasn’t bad. But Halo 4’s campaign was bloody brilliant, in my opinion. On par with Halo 2’s.

I miss the semi-fire rockets too, but the barrage is good for peek-a-boo shooting. The ONI variant is my favorite because it’s just perfect for anti-infantry roles.

I think giving the mantis a jump ability and a “praying” stance would complete it… cause you know… preying mantis.

The cutscenes were pretty, and I did like the gameplay of it even if it was repetitive at times, but it was a nice time killer and alternative to re-running the campaign a bunch. The campaign was brilliant indeed, easily one of my favorites. Quite a beautiful place too, like when you step out of the wreckage and see the spires come into view… Aah good times.

Dominion was a fun game mode, and wow was the Mantis good back then. I mean in the hands of a good pilot it can still be pretty good in 5 too, but do you see anyone actually using the stomp as a means of attack anymore? I only see it used out of desperation and it almost never does anything. Except the Hannibal EMP-Stomp, but even then…

I messed up a buncha spartans today with stomp. That move is a godsend, but you have to pay close attention to your radar, & start the stomp while your opponent is still running in.

Oh the memories… Death of a Temple Banshee

You can really trap people in bases with that thing. I think I was really annoying the other team when using it. It was a slaughter.

The Mantis in Halo 5 is a shadow of its former self… It was way more frightening and formidable a foe in Halo 4.

That’s because the Mantis stomp sadly does nothing anymore. And yeah, Dominion was awesome, I’d love to see that return.
