Do you guys tend to stay close? just in case someone gets close and kills them so you can kill them and retake the ball? or do you hover a bit away so you can try and stop people from getting to them period?
I try to stay close and do my part in protecting, but it seems the randoms I play with like to face the enemy 1v4 and die instantly…
i know that feeling
too well
I try to stay close to the ball carrier. Ideally the whole team will be somewhat close patrolling the entrance points of the area we’re protecting.
As the ball carrier I like to go to the edge of the map, in order to suicide in case the enemy gets the better of my team, so that the ball will reset.
But at the beginning of the game you should totally ignore the ball and rush for power weapons. What’s the point of getting the ball if the enemy can oblitarate your whole team with the SPNKr or a Gravity Hammer? Go for the power weapons even if you suck with them… it’s better to waste all the missiles in the SPNKr than let an enemy use it on you.
Everytime the power weapons reappear, they should be the priority over protecting the ball.
I stay close-ish but basically try and cover one route to the carrier and hope others do the same.
People underestimate the value in oddball of just keeping attackers engaged. If you can trade a few shots with someone and keep them at bay while your team have the ball, that is just as valuable as killing them. The time ticks down all the same
Usually, I am the carrier. But when I’m not, I don’t stay too close, as you’re then both easy to take out with grenades or power weapons. Keep some distance, but still staying within the same vicinity. Keeping distance also lets you pull back from the attackers a little, and force them to leave whatever position they have to come to you. If you stand by the carrier, there’s nowhere to fall back, and the carrier has less opportunity to flee.
In my brief experience it has always been better to just go for the ball before power weapons. But maybe it depends partly on the map.
I usually stick with the carrier and if they settle down somewhere, I peek at every way the opponents can come from because normally teammates are pretty unreliable (No offense).
Depends on the map, and where the ball carrier is holding the ball.
But most the time, I just die a lot acting as a distraction or I am the carrier.
With every cell in my body
Get down Mr. President!
