Ive watched all the YouTube videos, I’ve learned to pace my shots more to prevent spamming, I frequently watch pro streams and the pro circuits, and yet I’m still just struggling to win even half of my 1v1s as I am consistently getting outstrafed and outshot. The pros always appear to keep their strafes tight and quick, and yet when I try this I just get wrecked and I can’t seem to dodge a single shot. It’s frustrating because I’ve always prided myself on being an excellent strafer/duelist in every halo but I just can’t get the hang of Halo 5 yet. Any high level tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Jump and crouch mid-strafe… aim with your left stick versus your right.
Add me and we can play Octagon and I will show you some tips
The base movement strafing sucks in this game. I’d say to learn to incorporate your thrust with it, but save it for the right time. You don’t want to waste it in the very beginning unless it’s a specific situation that calls for it.
I just went through some of my clips to find good clips of me strafing here are a few recent ones.
My strafe: What I try to do is crouch often but not spam it, as that will throw off my own shot. I also keep the stafe very tight. I thrust at the right moment to throw off my opponent.
Disclaimer: I am not trying to show off any cool clips. These clips just happen to be high kill chains that happen to demonstrate my strafe. Also, for those wondering what Octagon is, clip 1 and 3 are Octagon.
Example 1: You can see my strafe clearly at 15 seconds up until the end. Although I am missing shots at the very end, you can still see the strafe.
Example 2: At 9 seconds you can see the strafe clearly. Notice how I use the thrust to throw off his shot and put me in better position to take him out.
Example 3: I strafe a lot during the whole clip but the best example is at 20 seconds. He tried to thrust and I countered him by thrusting the same way he was going so he didn’t get an advantage on me.
Shoutout to these guys: Trusssson and Mdominik21. I play Octagon with them often and they have really helped when I need somebody to play Octagon with and work on my shot/strafe
Feel free to add me if you want to play sometime! I can give you a few tips and help you out if you are struggling
Edit: When you get the chance, can you go and strafe how you would normally without using any tips from this thread? Just make a clip (I checked your DVR and you have no clips. To make a clip, double tap the home button on your controller and press X to record the last 30 seconds) and post it on this thread. Try out my strafe or some other peoples to see what works best for you
One big thing is do not use your boost too much running around the map. You might boost around a corner to a guy shooting you and the boost that could of helped you in the fight is now gone.

Great advice!

Just to amplify the importance of what’s being said by Scar3d, I would say playing games of Octagon frequently does help considerably.
If you really want to improve your shot do this, the reason I say this because (in my experience) say for example I have not played the game for a while, when I come back I find myself in a similar position to you OP. I get out gunned in most 1v1s.
A few games of octagon can remedy this because it helps me re-adjust to my set sensitivity.
I mean, hell just recently in fact I was in having the same issue, after changing my sensitivity and playing octagon I found myself being able to win the 1v1s I was losing to just 30 minutes prior.
In the last game of octagon I had with Scar3d he beat me in total kills, however I didn’t come too far behind. I could tell by his accuracy (and previous ranks for that matter) he has a much better natural shot than I have, but after playing a few games I was able to keep up with him.
I know it’s a echo of what was already said however, I do think if you want to improve in that department it is certainly worth investing the time into. Obviously, the more you do it the better you will become.
Also, try messing with your aim. That helps. Slower usually = better.
All my opinion, hope that helps.
Sorry for the long post.
