In need of some advise on Legendary campaign.

To tell the truth I’m struggling through it… those damn elites and their shields, not even my favorite weapons(DMR and needle rifle) seem to drop those shields…

currently in the sniper lvl with Jun, just past to two beasts… It seems to take a full clip of the sniper rifle just to headshot a elite…wtf.

any advise on weapons to use against them, and or the brutes at later missions?

also in that lvl will the sniper rifle destroy the shades laster in that mission or not?

I can’t remember how I managed to beat it so quickly alone. I do remember that I didn’t charge into fights (obviously) I always made sure I had ammo for my DMR.

For Elites I’d say Plasma Pistol and DMR, rockets are fine too but they just freeze them temporarily and often it doesn’t take down their shields. It’s better to save them.

Brutes can be really annoying, all I can suggest for the lower ranked ones is to shoot them with DMR/Sniper fire until their head plate falls off then use a single DMR shot to finish the job. Some Brutes can be more trouble though, the Brute Chieftan on Exodus can be a pain. He’s the one that you fight before you get in the Falcon. For him, try using a Concussion Rifle to knock him off the platform.

Spearhead’s advice is dead-on. Plasma pistol/DMR (or needle rifle) is an excellent combination for Elites. Honestly, I find myself taking Jackals down that way sometimes as well. With Brutes, I use DMR almost every time. Once I became more comfortable with the game, though, I found that grenades were a much better weapon against them, when I had them. In later levels when I faced Brutes in large numbers, I found that pistol/DMR/grenade was a great combo. Just hang back with cover and take your time on each Brute.

The level you’re talking about with Elites is Nightfall. Are you aware of the speedrun technique for it? It sounds like you’re at the part where you have to save the civilians. If you’re concerned about killing X amount of Elites, the speedrun won’t be for you, obviously. But if you’re trying to complete the level, speedrunning Nightfall will help you immensely.

Message/friend me if you need any help.

Use guides. For nightfall you don’t need to kill anything and can complete that mission in 3:30 or so. For pillar of autumn, again use a guide. You can pass most of that mission without fighting much.

I also have clips in my file share if you need, im not sure if I have nightfall or pillar of autumn though, but take a look, maybe you’ll find a mission you haven’t done.

For shields, carry a Plasma Pistol with you. Noob combo all the Elites you come across. Don’t bother wasting bullets on their shields, because you will be going at it for far too long.

I like the NIGHTFALL mission. On Legendary the Elites move around too much for me too. What I do is aim for the center of the body and hit them two or three times with the sniper rifle instead of going for head shots alone. But if I’m up close I use the Plasma/DMR combo. I personally like to use a Plasma/AR or Plasma/SG combo up close as well.

And yes, the SR will destroy the turrets later on in the mission but I like to leave the turrets as bait and I shoot anyone who gets in them. If your patient you can get a large number of Elites and Grunts to expose themselves by getting in the turrets.

Somehow I was able to complete solo Legendary for my first Reach playthrough without touching the plasma pistol, or any other plasma weapon for that matter. I beat it in like 8 hours. Pretty much used the DMR/AR for the whole playthrough.

I agree with most of the above replies.

Just remember to:

-Take your time, have patience.
-Conserve ammo.
-Don’t go into battle until your overshields are up.
-Look at YouTube videos for help.
-Don’t get angry.

Still working on the don’t get angry part… Jun is biggest part of my anger, cause that fool gives away my position like 95% of the time… and for some reason he can’t hit the broadside of -Yoink- with that gun either :stuck_out_tongue:

I just hope to hell 343 changes how the AI npcs act in halo 4, this near constant follow and get in front of u is BS…

Take your time and if you die too many times and you are angry, take a 15 minutes break.

But watch “Mythic Tyrant” From Youtube. He is amazing and gives good tips.

I have almost completed few missions on Reach, Legendary difficulty.

Hardest Parts:

  • Winter Contingency, end of level with 2 Zealots.
    This was so annoying!

  • Tip of the Spear, ending with 7 Grunts and Elite Ultra.
    This took like 30 minutes

  • Long Night of Solace, first time you enter Hangar of Corvette.
This was pain in the -cheesecake-

Seems like an impossible task… lol but i shall attempt

I used well placed headshots on the big guys and plasma grenades into groups of grunts/jackals. When your going against single Grunts or Jackals and you want to conserve ammo, melee the Grunt but using a precision weapon on the Jackal shoot his plasma pistol hand and that will cause him to raise his shield easy headshot. When your fighting fast weaving and jumping Elites/Brutes, you got to think like they would think. Anticipate when they would move or dodge your shot and fire as their dodging. I got through Reach Legendary in just two days using these tactics.

I’ve finished the campaign on Legendary Solo. The Plasma Pistol/DMR combo and Drop Shield are your friend. I honestly don’t suggest picking up any other weapons, even power weapons, as they are pretty useless on legendary.

The best advice: Don’t play like the developer wanted.

Bungie screwed up. Playing it the way they wanted you to is only asking for trouble. Can you believe that to do WC on Co-op LASO (this was prior to Reach’s release IIRC), they had to resort to Noble Team? Now Mythic masters have found ways to do WC without using Noble Team.

Piece of cake.

WC Zealot fight: assassinate sword Elite, strafe & plasma pepper concussion rifle Elite

TotS Spire fight: go up in the Banshee or go outside immediately after coming out of the lift. Headshot both heavy Grunts from outside, needle rifle supercombine Ultra Grunts, and the sword Elite is easy. Many ways to do it.

But I agree about LNoS’ hangar. That Engineer is wretched! I like keeping allies alive but if I go out the door to get a supercombine on the Engineer, the troopers are scripted to charge outside. Focus Rifle hell ensues.

Plasma Pistol + DMR/Snipe will get you through the campaign in no time. Make reloading your religion as well.

Tips for legendary campaign without any exploits:

Turn Catch and Tilt skulls on.

Tilt makes weaknesses and strengths even more intense. It’ll make the Plasma Pistol / Needle Rifle / Needler / Plasma Nades stronger. Of course it’ll make the DMR/Pistol weaker but I consider it a good trade off, as it still allows for the DMRs primary function of finishing off unshielded opponents with headshots. So basically it makes all the strong enemies weaker, but makes the weakest of all enemies slightly stronger. I’ll take that deal every time.

“Catch” of course means more plasma nades for you to collect off of dead bodies, but you need to keep your distance so you don’t get stuck as well.

A big tip is to reduce the amount of guns firing at you. If you see an Elite with a group of grunts, yeah if you kill the Elite the grunts tend to scatter, but on Legendary that’s a rough way of trying to get through the level. Take out grunts first with headshots, then you’ll be left with the big guys. In a 1v1 fight they are a lot easier to kill. Remember that ANY enemy can kill you, so clearing out all the small grunts first really decreases your opponent’s DPS.

Keep your distance from the big guys. If an Elite is using a plasma weapon the projectile speed is significantly lower than what you’ll be using. The farther away you are, the more likely it’ll be for your strafe to avoid the damage.

Juggle weapons. Each time you switch out a weapon it’ll throw the one you dropped a few feet forward. You can therefore constantly switch and be “Juggling” 3 weapons at a time.

The drop shield is the AA of the Gods on Legendary. Using this bad boy will regenerate the health of anybody inside it, incredibly useful on legendary

Take advantage of AI. If you’re in a Warthog give the AI in the passenger seat a heavy weapon like the Rocket Launcher. They’ll have infinite ammo and having an anti-vehicle weapon along for the ride makes it a lot easier to handle covenant vehicles.

Take enemy Wraiths whenever possible. Headshot the gunner out, use the Plasma Pistol to EMP it, KEEP USING EMP as you approach from the SIDE, until you’re in position to hijack it. Board the wraith, punch off the hood, dismount, EMP again, JUMP on (Not with the board/hijack button), then melee the driver to kill them. Now you have a wraith. This bad boy makes short work of anything else the enemy has (Not scarabs of course lolz)

If you’re doing coop campaign, you can kill your teammates in order to regenerate ammo. My teammates and I kill each other all the time to keep our nades and ammo supplies full for each fight. Additionally if a person is low health after a battle it is a quick way of replenishing it lol.

Let the AI do most of the work. At times you’ll see your allied Spartans just going to town on enemy Elites, but taking forever to kill them. Just wait for the Elite’s shields to drop and finish them off with a headshot.

Always fight groups from as far away as possible. If you can stay far back and reduce the enemy’s numbers with your DMR/Sniper before moving in, it is far better than trying to run in with a hammer/shotgun/sword and clearing the group.

Patience is a virtue. Nothing wrong with killing 1 enemy, letting your shield recharge, then repeating 20 times before you can move on.

You WILL die. I’ve ran hundreds of missions on Halo 3 / Halo Reach on Legendary. I know every trick in the book and I still die. Just keep your cool and don’t let it get to you.

Switch tactics. If you keep dying on the same part repeatedly, analyze the situation, switch up the direction you attack from, switch weapons, etc. Different encounters require slightly different tactics.

Spawn kill. Sometimes you’ll see a Phantom dropping off enemy covenant. Killing them as the hatch opens up, when they drop off, and when they first hit the ground is a great way to reduce their numbers without them being able to fight back.

Spawn Anchor. You can set up a guest controller and have it just stay in cover. Fight with your main controller. If you die, respawn and go kill more stuff. Repeat until every enemy is dead lol. Don’t try this on Tip of the Spear as the Falcon ride will get you slaughtered.

Elites- Plasma Pistol EMP then Headshot is best. Needlers work too but only fire off like 3, they’ll go into their BS Armor Lock, then once they exit launch the REAL needle barrage. They are best fought at mid range rather than close (Unless you’ve obtained a sword)

Jackals- There is a small gap in the shields where their hands are. Shoot the gap with a DMR to stagger them, then follow up with a quick headshot to finish them off. Additionally the shield can be EMPed off with the Plasma Pistol

Grunts- If in a small enclosed space grenades are incredibly useful. Mostly try to finish them off with headshots

Brute Chieftains with Hammer- Amazingly pathetic and easy to kill with. When they charge you RUN AT THEM! Once they begin their hammer swing simply jump right over them. How they became chieftains is beyond me because they flat out suck

Brute Chieftains with Fuel Rod- You’ll have to EMP them multiple times before their shields drop. Keep your distance and jump strafe as much as you can to avoid the fuel rod

Drones/Buggers- I never fight them, I activate the event trigger, grab camouflage and just run back to the elevator lol.

Hunters- No real cheap way of ending them. If you know they’re coming up try to have a heavy weapon ready. If you can hit them in their unarmored backs it’ll do more damage, I think they’re weak vs plasma but I could be wrong. Mostly it is about coming prepared.

Sprint- Unless you have a Sword/Hammer isn’t that great. Mostly to break combat, but if you’re fighting at a distance near cover it isn’t an issue anyway.

Camouflage- Great against buggers but outside of that is lame as the cheap AI will most likely target you anyway.

Armor Lock- You may have been able to fool inexperienced casual players in matchmaking, but don’t expect the same results in campaign. You might have some success with shotgun/frost/shotgun in CQC but honestly I wouldn’t even bother with AA. Seriously.

Jetpack- My AA of choice in multiplayer matchmaking. In campaign can be used to finish Exodus early by jet packing up to the final switch and thus skipping a group of strong enemies. Also useful for skyjacking enemy banshees on Tip of the Spear and The Package

Hologram- Amazing, the AI could watch you throw the hologram and would still fall for it. Spam the hell out of this thing. I cannot express how useful this is.

Drop Shield- Easy way to break combat, and replenishes your health without using up a health pack. My AA of choice on Legendary.

Best of luck to you TC.

Honestly, the best advice I can give is to check out Tyrant’s LASO Guide. It’s better than his Legendary Guide, and it really helped me with Reach’s Campaign.

Plasma Pistol or Plasma Rifle shots for the Elite shielding, then headshot.
For the campaign, the NR is your friend over the DMR because it super-combines on unshielded enemies in 3 shots. This makes quick work against Brutes whose helmets may take 4 or more shots to remove.
But of course, that’s dependent if you have Tough Luck on as enemies will avoid your needles more often via evade. And also dependent if the enemy is a Brute Chieftain with energy shields AND a helmet. Then of course, get a bit more creative with heavy or powerweapons.

So in recap, for Elites plasma weapon for the shields, precision weapon for the head. For Brutes, use Needler and NR’s.

Just a update, finished Nightfall mission will little anger issues… sniper rifles vs. shades…lolz.

I’m now at the second AA gun at ToTS… breaking for dinner and beer!

weapons of choice currently, Needle rifle and plasma pistol, and maybe the Plasma launcher for the wraiths.

And I seriously want to -Yoink- slap Kat, that AI can’t drive… horrid driver more so than the marines.
