Today I present my two remakes from Reach. I reached out to Tom French, the Lead Forge guy at 343i, on Twitter. I asked him what the size difference was between coordinates in Reach and 5. “1-10 from Reach to 5,” he tweeted me. I used this scaling to exactly recreate Sword Base and Countdown.
Blade (http://www.forgehub.com/maps/blade.1986/)
A remake of Sword Base. Thanks to the new textures, I was able to do some pretty sweet stuff with the walls and floors.
Weapons
Weapon placements are exactly how you remember them. Storm Rifles replace the Plasma Repeaters, and Carbines replace the Needle Rifles. The Plasma Caster sits where the Concussion Rifle used to be.
The Sword is a bit OP, so I placed it as a standard weapon that only respawns once the original is depleted. The Sniper Rifle is on a weapon pad, however. It respawns every two minutes.
Gametypes
Both Reckoning and Blade are compatible with every game mode, ranging from Infection to Oddball to 12 player Multiteam Slayer.
Reckoning (http://www.forgehub.com/maps/reckoning.1788/)
A remake of Countdown.
Weapons
The Energy Sword was originally on a weapon pad, which went well. And when I say went well, I really mean it didn’t work at all. I did an FFA playtest and saw two swords running about at the same time. Both players were able to completely deplete the Sword. It’s now just a placed weapon, respawning only if it’s dropped off the edge or is depleted. The shotgun in Pit spawns with 2 spare mags (12 additional shells). The Carbine replaces the Needle Rifles in Carbine 1 and 2, and the Caster sits where the Concussion Rifle was.
Both maps play very well with Halo 5’s mechanics. And thanks to the addition of dashing, you can make some pretty nasty jumps.
Please, playtest away! Leave feedback here, or on their respective ForgeHub threads. Thanks for reading!
