In-Game Stats / Service Record

Seeing how Halo 4 will run on the MODIFIED Reach engine, some elements of the UI might make a return.

One of the things that I feel was awful on the Reach UI was how pointless stats were shown when hovering a player in the Active Roster / pre-game lobbies.

• Daily Challenges
No one cares to know if someone else has done the 4 challenges of the day. It’s not like it was an aggreggate stat that added all of them up. Then again, it wouldn’t matter.

• Weekly Challenges
Same as the dailies. Most of the time you have to ask your friends their progress towards finishing it nonetheless. No point.

• Armory Completion
If you’re more than halfway to Nova or so, there’s a 98% chance that this number will be 100%. It’s as useful as knowing the player’s progression system level.

• Commendation Progress
Shows that you like reverting checkpoints, boost, or have a huge liking for FF. But seeing how FF isn’t returning and that the two other factors are nothing to be proud of, there’s no point for this in Halo 4

These need to be scrapped

Now, this said, can we get something SOMEWHAT relevant to the player’s skill, allowing us to guesstimate one another’s skill pre-game, like Halo 3?

On a player’s service record overview these should be shown:

• Highest Rank achieved or active (whatever the ranking system is)

• Wins vs Losses

• K/D Ratio (not spread)

• BPR, but the formula might need a few tweaks to make 100 harder to achieve. Could not be necessary if keeping good stats is hard in Halo 4 again, thanks to proper Ranked playlists.

• These stats shouldn’t be merged, but rather split in Ranked vs Social or something. Perhaps even show the stats of the selected playlist in Matchmaking as well.

But please 343, no more of the pointless stats. Reach had awful in-game service records. All you could see what total wins, and you had to calculate the K/D Ratio. The Arena Divisions weren’t even shown.

Agreed. There should be an option which part of a player’s service record you view.

I think the player should be able to choose what others can see. If I want them to see my K/D ratio, they can. If I don’t want them to see it, they can’t. Unless they come to waypoint and look up my profile etc.

This. ^

@Vetoed: You’re sounding like an MLG try-hard. I (obviously) agree with Vespervin that each player should get to choose what is shown to other players.

To make only the stats that are relevant to the MLG kids be the only stats that are shown is stupid. The Halo games are about so much more than stat comparison.

I wish people would remember that…

The more choice the better. The more options for choosing is better yet. Your service record should be comparable to some of the most customizable social networking sites available. Accessible from both the net and your xbox. That’s what is takes to make a game a true obsession!

It should be just one page, and not a digging of pages to see if the player is good.

> It should be just one page, and not a digging of pages to see if the player is good.

That would be your completely custom overview page. Still the owners choice to post any game-related stats or info

Totally agree.

The pre-game player card should show: GT, player model, BPR and all the stats that go into BPR (Kills, Assists, Deaths, Betrayals, Win%). Some ratios might be nice to see as well: K/D, K+A/D, K+A/D+B etc. (not all are necessary, these are merely examples).

These stats should be playlist specific.

I agree with you Vetoed. I don’t care how many of the daily challenges they have completed that day or if they have completed the weekly. I don’t care what their armory completion is or commendation progress.

I want the Arena ranking(or whatever skill-based-ranking system is used) to be shown. I want to see what their stats for this playlist are. How many wins, losses, k/d, BPR, and maybe top medals achieved in that playlist. These numbers should change based on what playlist you are playing in.

At least, that is what I would like to see.

> I think the player should be able to choose what others can see. If I want them to see my K/D ratio, they can. If I don’t want them to see it, they can’t. Unless they come to waypoint and look up my profile etc.

LOL. So everybody can hide their stats?
To win in reach I have to know if my teamates are good(do they need constant help?) The kd spread is an easy way to estimate the skill level(With a relatively large uncertainty).
If you don’t “care” about your stats, why would what other people think of them even bother you?

Halo is a FPS. It’s about doing better than the others in terms of kills, accomplishing the objective and winning games. That’s the main purpose behind EVERY variant no matter how you think of it.

It’s not because you are more casual at the game and don’t care about these things that it makes me a MLG “tryhard”, whatever that means. You are not forced to look at it, but sure are forced to deal with your skill in-game and acknowledge it.

This is just to allow players to estimate each other’s skill. The K/D is an inaccurate measure. I could keep a 5 K/D without focusing on it.

Does this game really have to cater to casual players so much that certain stats or measures of skill have to be hidden / non-existent? Bungie wanted to do it with Arena in Reach, by hiding the Divisions in the depths of the Service Record. Look at how bad that went, and the upset it created, and how it killed the incentive to compete in the Arena. That’s something to learn from.

No matter how casual you want to make this game sound like, it remains a competitive FPS where you have to be better than the others. Period.

Co-signed, but I doubt it will happen. Halo 4 will cater so much to poor players that I don’t think 343 will give even the slightest consideration to showing stats. Just based on this forum, 343 thinks that stats are only used to scrutinize or “flame” people…and we wouldn’t want the kids to get their feelings hurt.

Still a choice that player reserves keep private. only the guardians know the truth and still base matchmaking on the truth. peer-to-peer knowledge is really irrelevant in the end.

I like challenges in Reach it gives me a lot of credits.

I play MLG, therefore my k/d is low, but because I don’t care about what others think about my stats, it doesn’t matter.

Now if someone plays default they should be even less worried about what people think of their stats.

No hiding k/ds, it doesn’t mean much anyway.

High k/d = You play with people of low skill too often.

Low k/d = You play with people of your same skill or better too often.

> I like challenges in Reach it gives me a lot of credits.

Have you read the post as a whole? It’s not about the removal of challenges, just the removal of showing the # completed.

Anyhow, Spartan Ops will provide a much better challenge-ish experience than dailies / weeklies ever could IMO.

Oh, so you’re telling me you base your teams skill on their stats. That’s hilarious.

Also, I don’t know why you say quote-care-unquote. I don’t remember that being in my post.

*with a relatively high uncertainty.
However, if someone has a 1.0 kd or less outside the mlg playlist I assume they are BAD.
You are a prime example of someone that would force me to pull out my backpack.

I don’t think there should be any statistics on the players service record in game. Leave that to the website.
