In game lobbies

For the longest time in Halo, the pre-game and post-game lobby was always a strong point for me and other members of the community. If there is a better place to post this, please let me know.

I am absolutely astounded that it was changed so drastically in Halo 4, and removed entirely in the MCC and Halo 5. (Seeing “Player Found” does not count.) Please, please bring it back. The option to party up after a match is one of the features that Halo 3 pioneered across the FPS genre, and it saddens me to see that these games seem to be taking backwards steps throughout the years in regard to how streamlined the community features are. It makes me understand why people stopped using microphones in-game - there’s no real sense of in-game connection to the other players that you are with. The lobby is one of those features that brings everyone together.

This in-game connection is something that has been getting progressively worse throughout the years. As a player of Halo 5, I feel isolated when I’m searching for a game. Seeing people’s emblems does not do anything - they’re just pictures on a screen with no connection to the person on the other side of them. In Halo 3 and Reach I would often browse through people’s service tags and see their accomplishments, look at their file shares, or simply talk to them and know who I was talking to in return. The lack of this in Halo 5 created such a void of isolation that I play halo 5 with the volume muted with tv shows in the background. I never play ranked because what’s the point if I can’t show off my rank in a pre-game lobby?

Thank you for listening.

This also applies to armor and stances in general, in both social and ranked. It’s a bit silly that they created so many new armors for Halo 5, and yet most of the time, nobody will ever see what you’re wearing. It kind of takes the fun out of unlocking cosmetic items.

The reason Halo 5’s lobby is like that is because 343 wanted to discourage people from quitting the game after seeing people’s ranks. Which happened a lot in Halo 3.

I thought the Halo: Reach pregame lobby was by far the most inspired design. You don’t need to select any of their names, just scroll down the list of names and you know everything you need without needing to press the A button. Except for some reason in Reach we couldn’t look at other people’s file share.

True, but then again Halo 3 had a pretty darn good quit ban system. If that was the case then there are other ways to display something without freaking people out.

Like you said in Reach, where it only displays a symbol. That symbol had nothing to do with skill per say - it was how much time you dedicated to the game and earned credits. They could easily done something similar here with the spartan ranks.
