So by now we all (or atleast most of us) have seen some of the MLG footage of halo 4. Alot of people have been posting threads about PV and it being over powered. I how ever don’t believe this is the case. First lets look at some of the draw backs to PV:
limited range: lets take the map haven (the really shiny forunner map) its range is probably…maybe half of the map? i state this because lots of people have been saying " across the map wall hacks=OP or something like that. wich is completley wrong. go to MLG tv and re watch. the range isn’t that far.
high pitched ring: anyone who is currently in use of PV will produce a high pitched ringing noise that anone friend or foe can hear. its loud enough for you to hear if the person is within range to see you with PV the louder it is the closer they are.
slow recharge time: by DEFAULT PV vision has a slow ish recharge rate. It was so much faster in MLG gameplay because most members ran the AA efficency “perk” (allows for a faster recharge rate)
Visible FOV: this is one im afraid most people may have missed. when they use PV a visible red “fov” pops from there visor. heres something you may not know. if you can visibly see this chances are the PV user is in range to see YOU. thats another way to guess the range on PV.
more? in one of the commentary vids on MLG the person from 343 said there might be more draw backs to it in the final build.
Now heres a statement from a 343 member: PV is basically to help a player who isn’t situationally aware of there area. Now why is this importent? How does this apply to MLG they are considered amazing players right? Ill explain, MLG them selves are new to halo 4. they don’t know the maps or how they flow. so the excessive use of PV would help them MORE then someone whos been playing the game for months. If you can read a radar PV will only help you against campers and camo users.
shadow run? i think had an ability simalar to PV. But in most competitive matches other abilities were used. why? because other abilities were more helpful more often. further proving my point that PV will only be helpful to newer players. Basicly what im saying is PV SEEMED OVERPOWERED BECAUSE OF THE EXCESS OF NEWER PLAYERS.
we all know that it will be used accessivly in the beginning months because the game is new to most. just give it a while and it will probably die down.
thoughts? did this give you a new look on PV? discuss.
oh PV is promethean vision. i shortened it to PV as its less to type.
> 100% agree!
thanks
was alot more then im used to typing. glad someone actually read all of it.
People will claim wall hacks but there is two factors here.
The enemy has access to this as well.
Seeing is only part of a fight actually killing a target is another.

exactly. But people still think that wall hack=guarenteed kills.
this thread was made in hopes that the sensible people on the forums who had a problem with PV might look at it differently.
I disagree as normal with you sir, but that’s ok.
For one thing, in the videos, several people got “caught” sneaking up on a PVer at the last second. Completely ridiculous that the push of a button completely negates strategy.
I’m upset that 343i keeps talking about how they’re helping us “enhance” the way we play the game to our style. Everything they seem to introduce completely negates the way I play Halo. I can’t really on twitch reflexes, incredible BRing, or no-scope sniping. I really on:
- Map Movement
- Team Movement
- Psychology
- Awareness
I’m the guy who has followed you for 45 seconds waiting for the correct moment to blitz you. PV allows you to simply ping your FOV and see me 50 yards away. Or you chase me around a corner to where I knew a second teammate was waiting but ping you see the trap and just move along. This happened in the videos too. No longer do you have to be aware, or even call out, just push a button and you know where everyone is at.
It seems fine to me plus if you watch your radar you know the guy/girl using PV is there anyways.

oh hello TTU (: making me argue as always. heh. anyway i do agree with you to a point. it will be much harder to sneak up on people. But in explaining all of this one thing i tried to get across is that it will die down at some point when people realize how much better other abilities will be for them.
Kind of like how in the reach beta camo corners were rampent. but later on you saw less and less of it. im predicitng the same will happen with PV.

now your going to have to explain this to me. If someone is running PV on your radar do they look different then other enemies?
No what I’m saying is if someone in front of you is using PV to watch you it pretty much doesn’t matter because they will appear on your radar. So Even though you can’t see them you know they are there.
Plus the pinging noise gives them away as well. Also PV only works in front of you radar is a full 360 around you.So all things considered PV seems quite alright to me.

thanks for clarifying.

No problemo!
Don’t forget that it runs out of energy pretty quick. I’d say its balanced enough.

completley forgot about that Dx thanks!
I watched the black ops 2 trailer and something similar was used to see through walls.
In my words this aa is a squeaky crutch.
