Make it a short story collection like Evolutions was. Little dozen-page descriptions of things that happened before that were mentioned but never expanded upon.
Im not being sarcastic, I would actually love a book like that. They could cover stuff from both sides of the war, and even the Forerunners maybe.

That would be a good idea for a book. Maybe even dive deeper into how the different species of the covenant live their lives and how it affected them.
