In 2015 I called out 343 for ruining the lore.

And nobody believed me. Now in 2020, in a desperate move they’ve gone to making a soft reboot of the franchise. And nobody thought Halo 5 story was good.

The lore hasn’t been “ruined”. No mortal character lasts forever, especially in a franchise as big as Halo. You don’t have to agree with the decisions 343i make, but that doesn’t mean the lore has been ruined.

It seems your examples in that thread were also a bit premature. Cortana obviously didn’t die and neither did Red Team (or the entire Spirit of Fire crew).

A soft reboot was bound to happen eventually to bring new life into the franchise.

There are people who thought it was good.

I did not like the stories of Halo 4 and 5 either

I think you’re painting 343 with too wide of a brush by saying they ruined the lore wholesale. H5 sucked, and I won’t mince words about it. But most of their other works have been incredible additions to Halo. H4 has grown into a great character-driven story imo. The books and comics added to the Halo canon throughout 343’s tenure have been mostly fantastic. HW2 was a great game as well.

I find it frustrating that people throw all nuance out the window when discussing this topic. 343 has screwed up in a few pretty big ways, and we shouldn’t ignore that, but it’s not like they have just utterly ruined the story.
