I’m trash with the sniper rifle, no matter which game it is. I’m just wondering if any of you guys know a good way to improve with it without dragging my team down by taking a power weapon I can’t use properly or blowing a bunch of REQ cards.
Seems to me like practicing “in the field” would be the best way, though. Just keep using it and you’ll improve over time. Your team will understand if you take it, as long as you’re trying your best with it. We all have to start somewhere. Alternatively, you could try practicing in custom games because those don’t matter

Thanks. I’ll try custom games to get a better feel before I try it in actual PvP

I think for some sniping just comes naturally, so I wouldn’t beat yourself up. You just need practice and patience. I only one zoom or one scope, not sure how you’re using it, but maybe practicing that way could improve your skill. Also, learn player movements. What I mean by that is watch to see how the spartan moves. Is he constantly sprinting? Is he more of a defensive player and doesn’t move much? Does he rotate from one side of the map to the other? I’ve noticed that studying the other player can be just as effective as being a skilled sniper. Or, even just paying attention to how the spartan moves in the first place, like you know their head is going to be here, so line your shot up accordingly. Hope this helps.
Let’s see what I can spare…
- Upgraded Shields will save you from counter-snipers by granting you resistance to a single sniper round before you go down. It won’t however, protect you from Nornfangs, Beam Rifle Deltas, or any Binary Rifles. - The first zoom level actually has the same magnification level as a standard DMR. Only zoom in further if you’re in a safe spot and you’re certain you can land the shot. - Always have a close-quarters capable weapon as your backup should you get caught by surprise. A shotgun, Energy Bayonet, or some automatic weapon is a great choice. - Advanced Sensors maintains your radar while scoped in and can be very helpful in maintaining situational awareness, but don’t rely on it too much. Be sure to regularly check your surroundings should someone attempt to sneak up on you. - Never stay in one area - especially in obvious spots like windows - for too long. Every now and then, relocate yourself and stay around cover should someone see you.
Just practice and keep shooting. You will miss shots, even the best do. My skills have gotten better by learning spawns and where people are likely to go. Also by just using it over and over and over. Sniping, as others said, comes naturally to some, but if you want to get better with it, keep taking the shots and try to learn from your mistakes.
Just remember, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

no one likes campers
Sorry mate the only way to get better is to use it. Everyone who’s godly with it all sucked when they picked it up the first time. It’s literally just using it over and over again will get you use to it. People have their methods. If you were a clan kid they had snipers on the base. Fun customs like open season. Just using it in matchmaking. And I know one guy who played firefight unlimited back on reach with just the sniper (practice no scopes)
The best advice I can give is take the shot.
I found that I got much better when I stopped questioning myself and trying to get a perfect shot. Don’t spend too much time worrying about wasting ammo or missing shots.
If you watch the pro players in the HCS, they make some crazy good shots, but they also miss a LOT of shots.
Well you’re in luck because the H5 sniper is probably the easiest and most forgiving to use in the series. You can get a headshot with your eyes closed.
My advice would be to not think about the shot. If you see it, then take it just like you would if you had a loadout weapon. I’ve found that when I think about it or take my time I tend to miss more.
Try Shotty Snipers, are the Ranked Snipers. That’s how I became a lot better and confident, SWAT will help somewhat with target acquisition
Just keep practicing with it. Thats what warzone and firefight is for.
The best way to handle snipers well is to have a look that you can control and above all good aim
Hmm…I’ll do what I can to help
Trust me, I have a love-hate relationship with the H5 Sniper Rifle…sometimes I won’t miss…and others I’ll do nothing but miss.
- Stay aware of your surroundings. Using Advanced Sensors and having a good close quarters weapon like a shotgun really helps…alternatively, you could go for an energy bayonet loadout weapon. - Don’t hesitate. I’ve done countless times where I come short of pulling the trigger and either my target disappears or I get killed. You’re going to waste ammo on a missed shot…it’s guaranteed. Don’t fret if you can’t get a kill with every single bullet you got. I find this is a crucial one when it comes to battling another sniper. Even if you miss, they usually panic and that leads to mistakes of their own. - Stick to your domain. Try and position yourself somewhere that you can have a good line of sight and minimize your foe’s chances at damaging you. If you find that you’re getting peppered with fire whenever you poke your head out, it’s likely a good idea to move to a different area. - If you’re wanting to practice headshots, then the End of the Line is my pick. Despite the reduced damage, it’s only a one-shot kill to the head. - Remember that whenever you zoom in with a sniper, (includes the beam rifles, binaries and their variants) there will be a glare from the scope that gives you away. Try using an Active Camo to help reduce your chances of being found and possibly eliminating this giveaway.Brav

No, not firefight. Firefight is the last place you should be using a sniper rifle. If you call in a sniper rifle in firefight, not only will you not be learning how to get better at sniping because AI behaves differently than players, but you will also be turning yourself into dead weight for your team to carry.
Even a Nornfang can barely put a dent into the bullet sponge bosses or kill more than a handful of Elites or Soldiers, even on Heroic, before running out of ammo. Don’t spend 6 or more levels of req energy just to kill a few enemies or put a tiny scratch in the boss’s health, and then run out of ammo, and possibly die in the process. You could call in a Scorpion tank for the same req energy as a sniper rifle.
grinding your magnum shot is the best way to increase your overall accuracy. the best playlist for doing that is FFA

Firefight is the perfect place too use a sniper let this person play how they want too!
This is probably the weakest part of my game. I want to force myself to play nothing but snipers but I feel bad for my team. Everybody hates the guy on their team that is 3 and 15. I still feel that doing this is the best way to get better. Like when I decided to get better with the magnum I used nothing but the magnum in every game until I got good with it. I still use it 90 percent of the time. Now I just need to do that with the snipes.

Action sack, stronghold on block map snipers spawn fairly often on each side. You kill while teammates cap and kill anyone who got past you. Better yet team snipers as you spawn with it and won’t bog your team down.

I’m not saying they’re not allowed to play how they want to. I’m saying using a sniper rifle in Warzone Firefight, even on Heroic, is utterly ineffective and rude to your teammates, which is a fact. If you want somebody to blame, blame 343 for designing it that way.
