I find it strange that we’ve been given many many parts to use when messing around with Halo 5’s Forge. Although the sad thing is, I still feel limited. Don’t blame 343 for that if I were to say I’m not a fully experienced Forger, but in a perspective I just do. During one of my little random Forge sessions, I thought to myself, let’s do something Forerunner. Issue is, with only primitive blocks and such, I couldn’t really mimic the actual art style of current Forerunner architecture without the actual architecture in my hands (in the objects menu). To put it in simple terms, it’d be really nice to expand on esthetic, and modular Forge pieces. Hell, I can’t even find a decent pillar that would fit in a corner I just made, and it would annoy me deeply, knowing I simply cannot find a pillar, that is stylish enough, or large enough to fit that one gap or corner in my building. It’s already bad enough SOME of the esthetic pillars and struts, and so on look as bad as the usual, tracer helmet I so dearly hate. Seriously, why would a pillar be so thin, it could easily be used as a pole vault for vaulting, especially as a Spartan. The struts themselves could use a great tweak in mass, and bulk instead of that flat, plain looking triangular pedestal that could be used for speech class. I do appreciate the work that 343 puts into the game, but I really wish they take their time and consider the design of something and ask themselves, “What has the community asked us for, what would they love to see again?” I’m sure the question is asked a lot, but as far as I’ve seen in the design of the game, it kinda looks like they said, “Alright, let’s take half the ideas, and then, mess it up a little.” I’m not saying they do it on purpose, or that it could be a schedule thing, but seriously, take the time to make a bulky pillar with some design in it, take the time to make these Forerunner Forge pieces that can actually bring the map to life. Scripting was one hell of a way to bring out a maps potential, but with the lively movement of a Forerunner construct, it’s sure to seem almost like it was never made on Forge itself, rather n the development studio. I want to see these kinds of things. Halo 5’s Forge is amazing, there’s no doubt, but there is so much for it to improve to become something better than amazing. I really miss going on Forge without a worry that something might not fit, like in Halo Reach. If this is ever taken into consideration, bring it out to the future Halo games to better the name of 343. Halo 5’s Forge is expansive, it’s terrain make so much more opportunity in a building location. I’m not going to complain about it, but it’s something worth mentioning. Most of the rocks in Forge are basically different sized versions of the model, it annoys me much, but not enough for me to complain about it, I’m glad it fits in with other rocks so easily. The introduction of sky boxes was amazing, I was absolutely taken, I didn’t care if the map was playable for the bloody splatter, or the occasional grenade explosion, I just wanted to make a beautiful scene based off of my inspiration brought by a sky box. Although there are only about 3 different sky boxes per map, I’d like to see more, and when I mean more, I mean up to 12 different sky boxes per Forge map. I mean 4 different versions of a nighttime sky box, I mean 4 different version of daytime. To continue on with the topic of ambience, I’d love more weather effects. This is outer space for crying out loud, let it rain sideways, or put us in the middle of a hurricane, or a weird neon space storm, or put us in the middle of a fleet of Covenant ships. Overall, it’s just something that can make Forge feel more alive, even though we have the possible tools on us, it’s not enough to seem super realistic without the developers help. This is literally a cry for help!
