Improvements that could be made to improve warzone

Ok, before I even start, I just want to state that these are opinions and suggestions on my part on how I personally believe the game could improve. I love Halo and have been a big advocate of the series since it started back in 2000. If you like how things are, I won’t hold that against you, but I do find a few of these things to be factors in why warzone is not as fun as it could be. The gametype has tons of potential, and it would be a waste to just let it die off.

Factor 1: Spawns and Bases

One of my only real complaints about this system is that when another team completely captures all 3 bases, its hard to make a comeback and capture the nearest area when all the other team has to do is spawn towards capture point closest to the enemy base. Not only is it completely frustrating, but there are multiple instance where the enemy is completely content to just simply wait it out on the outside and kill anything that comes out.

My Suggestion:

During a time that all 3 points are captured, the game could spawn players into random points of the map, or should they choose, they can spawn in their own main base. This way, the opposing team would not only have to defend all of their bases instead of just one, but they would have to make a rush towards the core if they hope to succeed in destroying it.

Factor 2: AI Enemies and Scoring

Since AI bosses are part of the gametype’s attraction, of course they come with their own set of problems. Each side both have opportunities to take them down then valued towards the team who accomplishes this, thus bringing them closer to victory. The problem is that the game lacks an assist value on main bosses (Warden, Lokogos, Baron, etc). What is worse is the surprisingly large gap in time in which the AIs come into play. It usually falls under the: Capture base, kill boss, capture the second base, then both sides start killing one another till another big valued boss comes about.

My Suggestion:

I don’t care if the team who gets the final shot in to get the value of that boss, that is a given, but if there was a huge firefight on both ends, and they each contributed towards its takedown, then a certain assist value could still be earned. What I’m saying is that should a boss fall, the killer’s team is awarded the 150 points, but if both teams have dealt a significant amount of damage, they may not have killed the boss, but 50 points could still be earned. And the game could have more frequently occurring squads of enemies spawn about, some with values lower than 25, but could still help break the monotony of just PVP focused combat.

(Also fix the tank glitch, if a person gets the kill on a scorption or Wraith by stuffing it with a grenade, that should be their kill)

I think you have a good idea with the random spawning. That would definitely make things better for the losing team.

However, I do think there needs to be another victory condition, something like if one team has a 500 point lead over the other, they win. This could potentially halve the time farming sessions take.

Really the only thing I want improved in warzone is the skill matching system or lack of one hopefully 343 will acknowledge that there is some issues in the skill matching system for both arena and warzone.

I was thinking that the Legendary boss kill points could be awarded based on damage dealt and who got the killing blow. 100 points of the reward are based on damage percentage. If Red Team takes out 43% of the Warden Eternal’s health, they get 43 points for it. Blue Team deals 57%, so they get 57 points. Then, the team that gives the killing blow gets the 50 remaining points.

Spawn more AI. “More than one way to win” rings hollow when the AI mainly serves as a means of a major point swing while the rest of the game is all but entirely determined by holding the majority of the bases.

From a programming perspective, I can’t really see it based solely on damage because of the calculations involved. If the wraith/scorpion glitch is any indication, the game has enough problems just determination who killed what, rather than how much damage a person can do.

That is likely to be true, but it couldn’t hurt to have regular spawns of AI to be added into the mix, even if they are only worth a few points per squad. Like 3-4 grunts accompanied by a knight or elite. If the Battle of Noctis is any indication, I think 343 is working towards that end.

Victory conditions like that may be unnecessary if the right balances are made. The only reason I think warzone is lacking in the way points are distributed is because 343 sticks with the traditional point system. Though this works in a normal PVP setting, it can be frustrating when all your effort becomes meaningless if all a person has to do is just time their shots right and get all the credit with minimal effort. Some people say its playing it smart, I call it exploitation of a broken system.

Increase the despawn timer of the weapon REQ you dropped after dying. Give people a chance to reclaim it if possible. Or if no one stole it…

I think they have already done this with a recent update when the Armory came out.
