Improved Sword Block

Sword block should not be removed entirely. It should be limited to one Sword Block per encounter. If you Sword Block an enemy once you cannot Sword Block him immediately after.

The damage dealt to the blocker should be a deshielding. If the blocker had no shields he would die.

The damage dealt to the Sword user should be the equivalent to one DMR headshot. If the Sword user was one-shot he would be deshielded by the Sword Block leaving him open to a fatal headshot during his melee cooldown. If the Sword user had no shields a Sword Block would kill him.

Thoughts?

although I like the idea of sword block, it should be in the game period until reach or H4 gets dedicated servers.

With the sword and the shotgun having this blurred line between “shotty > sword” and a mutual kill, sword block shouldnt even be part of the equation because it causes this: “WTF I BLOCKED THAT” or “HE WASNT EVEN LOOKING??? HOW DID HE BLOCK ME???” when if it was just like it should be (a sword made out of plasma): an instant kill no matter what (except shotty), then there is no line of wut? to happen.

> H4 gets dedicated servers.

I think dedicated servers is also an intergral part of bring back 1-50 but that’s another discussion. If you are going to publicly rank players in relation to other players there needs to be a removal of the option to manipulate the network to win.

Sword block should be removed. It makes no sense at all. It’s a gameplay feature that caters the noobs.
We didn’t need it in Halo 2. We didn’t need it in Halo 3. We don’t need it in Reach. And we don’t need it in future Halo games.

If I hit you in the chest with it it kills you in one hit. But If you raise your arm up. It magically blocks it. How dose that work? It’s a one hit kill weapon. The only thing that should stop it is another sword.

That would be like a Jedi using a lightsaber. He swings it at a Storm-Trooper it cuts him in half. Then he swings it at another Storm-Trooper. The Trooper raises his arm up which magically blocks it.

I say no. There’s no block for shotguns, hammers, rockets, or snipers, so why should there be one for a sword? A power weapon is a power weapon, and it shouldn’t be able to be blocked.

That’s what I think to about sword block. If you can block that. Why can’t you block anything else then.

Sword block was a bad idea IMO. It lowers the ability to kill for a power weapon that already wasn’t the top of the list as far as ability to kill goes anyways.

No, sword block was a terrible idea. It’s like 80% based on connection. A critical gameplay element should not be so random, nor should it completely counter a power weapon entirely.

There are many alternatives which are not random and only power it down, rather than ruin it:

  • Increased draw time after sprinting, like shotgun
  • Cut sprint duration in half when wielding sword* Double energy cost per kill, so that it’s actually a power weapon much like rockets, rather than a full 10 straight kills* Allow a sword wielder with 0 shield to trade kills when melee’d* Slow down striking speed so opponent has more time to inflict damage (which also gets rid of sword wielders with host able to kill shotgun-wielders)

Also OP, there’s already a designated thread for this. Making your own will just result in it ending up on page 20 and never seen by 343.

while the energy sword is a bit of a far cry from a “light saber”, I completely agree, holding your forearm in front of you has been proven to not block a sword, unless you have a “shield” designed to parry it. If we had the option to use “jackal shields” in Halo 4, than I’m sure you could block a sword with one of those, but in reach, all we got is cruddy shields that don’t even block rain and condensation if I remember correctly. Spartan “shields” block external forces going certain “velocity” I suppose, which is why they reflect bullets better than they reflect a spartans fist to your face.

sword block is inconsistant with the rest of the game, and so I’m glad they took it out.

good idea. T-UP

i do believe blocking the sword should do a bit more damage, however. something along the lines of 2 DMR shots should work perfectly. also, if you block a sword user that has no shields he should die, or be put at 1 health IMO.

also, i’d like to see the sword block be MORE reliable, but still very hard to execute. it currently feels very random and sporadic when you can get the block to work, depending on connection speed of both players to the host.
