I have to say well done to 343i, didn’t see many threads about this. Most threads are discussing the lack of a dedicated co-op mode, and while that may be a bit disappointing I can see why they chose to do this. With Halo 5, after the mixed fan reception to Halo 4, it was absolutely important to get the core of the game right and that is, without a doubt, Multiplayer and Campaign. And they are putting a lot of effort into them. We’re looking at what will probably be Halo’s longest, most complex campaign since Halo 2 (just judging by how much story they have to cover) and of course the huge return to the roots in multiplayer while still adding a lot of new core gameplay features… And we’re launching with the biggest line-up of maps in Halo ever (over 20 maps and the promise of 15 more as free DLC) and finally this awesome new mode. I, personally, am happy that they focused their limited time and resources on what matters the most, and I have a feeling it will be worth it in the end. That’s not to say I wouldn’t appreciate a co-op mode as paid DLC later on (I think we would all love an evolution of the concept of Spartan Ops or at least something like Firefight and would pay good money for it). But back to the topic of this post… WARZONE.
After watching the ViDoc (and if you haven’t watched the Warzone ViDoc, go do it now), it really cemented to me just how much this mode makes sense in Halo. It really is, as 343i say, a melting pot where everything that makes Halo fun comes together in (hopefully, haven’t played it) a truly beautiful and chaotic experience. Two teams of 12 (keep in mind that Halo’s maximum number of players was just a tad higher than the size of one Warzone team) drop into a huge map on Pelicans, each have their own home bases where they get weapons and vehicles throughout the match. The middle ground between the bases is littered with enemy AI: Covenant and Promethean troops holding them, adding a whole new layer to the scope. Then we have bosses (which I always love!), base captures, cores and all the right tools to give the player to create just one huge, fun mess… And free DLC maps as well, to keep the mode fresh for everyone without a paywall.
I have a feeling Warzone is where I’ll spend most of my time in Halo 5 (after I play and replay the campaign a few times and satisfy my story needs). Thanks for going big, 343i! I would expect nothing less from the first next gen Halo.
Yeah that’s exactly how I feel right now
everything is awesome, as you said there are few little things like lack of Firefight, and Arbiter’s wrong mandibles that make everyone mad, but this is gonna be for sure the best Halo! And Warzone is gonna be the best multiplayer mode ever! Still they have to reveal Forge, Spartan Customization and I think some new multiplayer mode
I totally agree. I was suspecting that 343 had big plans for their new take on BTB and Warzone blew me away.
I can’t wait to see all the maps and I’m relieved that we can earn REQ packs through Arena as well because I do want to play it too! I have a feeling we are going to be getting lots of customization judging by the fact that we can even customize which assassination we want to use. Cosmetics being used in Arena also has me excited but hopefully it will amount to more than just weapon skins and assassinations. It still amazes me that we are getting 6 maps just for Warzone at launch. 6 maps! And then another 6 later!
If Warzone is as fun as it looks, then 343 has really hit it out of the ballpark here with their multiplayer. We’ve got a huge chaotic mode for all the big team lovers (as well as classic BTB), we’ve got balanced Arena combat with smaller teams on normal sized maps and even a 1-life mode (Breakout) for people who are into those heart-pounding moments.

Yep. The only thing I’m worried about is Objective, since that was never 343i’s strong suit. I hope 343i invested in it after the disappointing lack of gametypes in Halo 4. Variety in multiplayer was always Halo’s hook, and Objective always played off extremely well with Forge to elevate both experience to a whole new level. I hope that they will blow us away with Forge and Custom Games.
I’m looking forward to it as well. Really not sure what to head into first when Halo 5 finishes installing: Campaign, or Warzone?
Maybe I’ll just flip a coin when the moment arrives. Or, head into Campaign and finish some missions, wait for more folks to get the game up and running, then head into the field of chaos. Always loved me some hectic Halo gameplay, Warzone might provide just that!

Yeah hopefully Objective playlists will be around at launch. It’s already confirmed that CTF will be. I think once BTB gets brought into the game we’ll see a lot of objective modes there too.
We’ll have Strongholds as well so maybe all we need is a separate playlist for Oddball, Assault and Ricochet. Then we’ll need other playlists like Team Doubles, Snipers and Rumble. Once all those are in, they can start adding more “party” modes like Fiesta and Multi-Team.
If I decide to go into MP, I think Warzone is where I’ll be
