Granted, I’m not the best player out there, or even a great player, but I like the assault rifle quite a bit. I’m assuming you are talking about loadout automatic weapons as I have found the SAW to be quite effective. The pattern I have seen in getting kills (I normally use the AR so I bleive this apllies) is that I am normally able to either get the jump on my opponent or hang with a group of team mates and help with fire power superiority.
Close range, burst fire the AR in close-medium, learn to time your shots and never forget to reload between encounters. Remember if the enemy has a precision weapon and opts to backpedal to get ready to take cover unless you’re close enough to sprint into melee or pop your thruster pack. Remember despite the Boltshot’s OP secondary fire that the primary fire is a good emergency close range headshot weapon if your suppressor/AR runs out of ammo on Adrift and they’re going for a retreat into mid-range, and most importantly, keep moving forward. The automatics in Halo are a full-on assault system that rewards neither caution nor cowardice once the time to shoot comes along, so always be prepared to die for your kills and do any strategic decisions beforehand in the loadout menu.

Yeap, I wonder if the only way to achieve this 15 kills is stealing kills from teamates since normally 1x1 is kinda impossible.

Damage-wise it seems to be thanks to it being hitscan. The H3 AR was more accurate though, burst firing it could make it near Carbine accurate if you had the trigger finger for it…or a HORI Turbo controller.
The only change I think the AR could use aside from having it’s max ammo increased when using the Ammo Support Upgrade (really it currently only gives one extra magazine compared to literally doubling the DMR/BR reserves) is a reticle reset buff. Have the crosshairs reset to pre-firing position faster after releasing the trigger thus getting the AR back to peak accuracy faster.
This would allow the gun, and a skilled user, to snap off more accurate shots and improve the gun’s effectiveness beyond close range.
In other words, it’d help AR users to not be completely screwed against non-automatics beyond spitting distance.

Yeap, thanks for info. most of DMR users just keep walking forward when sees someone using automatic weapon.
Oddball. Any playlist where the map selection has numerous CQC areas. Don’t bother trying on Complex.
> Use the AR in bursts
Using the AR in bursts is a good idea.
On midrange targets who are not shooting at you. They’ll dome you before you get a chance to strip their shields. The proper way to use the AR is to get close enough so that your target fills the reticule completely. You’ll get out BRed or out DMRed past that.
Alternatively, Hologram/Camo to get the first shots and the edge, or grenade as they come around a corner and follow up.
AR kills can be easily gotten in Regicide (I found it best used with Camo or Thrusters to get into or out of certain situations) but I also found it to be useful in other game types. I was surprised that I was able to complete the 15 kill daily challenge with ease on BT Slayer on Exile, so have a loadout ready for when you get one of the smaller maps and head for the central conflict point (Again, Thrusters or Camo for the same reasons as Regicide). Also, it can be useful for defending in certain objective gametypes like CTF. Just situate yourself near your flag with active camo and be ready to decimate those who dare touch YOUR flag. (<-Sounded too cool not to put, sorry :P)
There are a multitude of different ways to get kills on precision weapon users with automatic weapons.
What I do is I jump and go in a circle around my opponent; do anything to throw off their aim. Even go forward and back as needed. Try to shoot first, too. It’s not impossible to kill someone who shot first, but it’s significantly easier to kill them when shooting first.

The MA5D Assault Rifle is my preferred tool of destruction.
Close to 10,000 kills with it in Campaign/Spartan Ops, working on the 500 kill level of the commendation in multiplayer.
Jetpack… Without a doubt. Jet pack and AR was powerful in reach. Jet pack was so dominant in reach they nerfed the hell out of it in H4 and I still find jet pack very useful. Hell, jet pack in Reach Arena was so heavily abused that it was removed from the playlist.

I run be ar and use the ar a lot. It’s perfect when coming around corners with prometian vision. I’ve even gotten a double kill with the thing. The gun is OP’d for its last of skill needed to use it
