"We’re building it so it plays and looks fantastic on Xbox One, and then everything else [Xbox Series X/PC] is plus-plus-plus" -Frank O’ Connor
When making multigenerational games there’s three options.
Make two different games for each console generation (rarely done) - Make the game for next gen, and downgrade it for last gen - Make the game for last gen, and port it to next gen**“We’re building it so it plays and looks fantastic on Xbox One, and then everything else [Xbox Series X/PC] is plus-plus-plus”** means it’s a game made for last gen first and foremost, then ported to next gen. Halo Infinite will be an outdated last gen game, ported with enhancements like higher resolution, raytracing, etc.

Fair enough, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Although I think it would be disappointing if Halo 3 was made on the OG Xbox, and ported to the Xbox 360.
Halo 3 would release in 2007 with the same graphical fidelity as Halo 2, and not be powerful enough to run real time Scarab battles, or have enough space for Forge mode.
I think the most important thing for the game to do is to be a fun game to play. Cyberpunk is a great example of this for me personally. The hype for Cyberpunk was that it would be the definitive open world game that would redefine the genre forever. For me, the game looks great on PC and next gen platforms but doesn’t do anything innovative or groundbreaking. I feel like Red Dead Redemption 2 did a better job at open world gaming and that came out two years before Cyberpunk. Now I know that people will disagree with that statement no doubt, but my point is graphics will only get you so far. Being outdated does not mean that the game is lacking in graphical fidelity or something like that. You could say that many of Nintendo’s first party games are outdated based on the the fact that their graphics are not shiny and 4k and the worlds that they build are not crazy expansive or take advantage of new technologies. Yet Nintendo sells games like crazy every single year because they are fun, great games that bring people joy. This is what Halo needs to do to get people playing. Halo 3 back in 2007 could have been called outdated because it was not the best looking game that came out that year and it held on to many older game design philosophies such as no sprint, arena style gameplay and pickups, and slower overall game movement at a time when games wanted to get faster and faster. Halo 3 was one of the biggest games of that year despite all those things because it was a fun game first and foremost. I believe that will always win over anything else that a game has to offer.

Considering how ugly Miranda Keyes, Sgt. Johnson and Lord Hood looked in Halo 3 compared to Halo 2, maybe there are some aspects where less is more.
Seriously though, Halo 3 and ODST need a remaster because human faces in those games are uglier than sin.
it can be like that at launch sure. Not really that big of a deal. But if people expect the xbone to be supported throughout Infinites life cycle, I think they are going o be severely disappointed.
But what did you expect? Halo Infinite was always going to be an Xbox One game. Development of Infinite started somewhere around early 2016. The Xbox Series X|S were only in concept phase back then. It was never going to be a ‘next-gen first’ game.
That said, I believe Halo Infinite will look and play great on the new consoles, as will it on Xbox One.

Move over HCE flood with SPNKrs, H3 Lord Hood is by far the most horrifying sight in ANY Halo game. shudders
This early into a new console generation virtually every game is an old generation port.
Developers haven’t had time to come to grips with the new system.
That’s why new consoles rarely show their form until the third wave of games. By then the developers know what the new system can do, APIs are mature (MS have only just started to add ray-tracing), and developers have had time to update their game engines.
343 may have a slight head start as they would have had inside info from MS as they put Slipspace together.
Hopefully Infinite can give us some ‘wow’ on release… but it will be a year or two before it gives us some ‘WOW!!!’.

That is very true. Just compare the graphics in Halo 3 and Halo 4, it almost looks like they’re a full generation apart.
Even if the Xbox One version of Halo Infinite was dropped a year ago, Halo Infinite will look terrible in comparison to any Xbox Series X coming late in the generation, let’s say, Gears of War 6.
However, let’s remember that Halo Infinite is not a conventional numbered sequel, it’s a platform. There will not be another mainline Halo game releasing this generation. Rather, it will be update gradually, including its graphics, AI, etc.

Yep. Infinite will gradually evolve into a true next gen game.
