thanks
I enjoyed that read. Thank you
Thank you post posting that, that was the best read I’ve had all day.
It’s that “play to win” mind set that I share which makes me resent the people who say “Sprint hurts competitive play” I never wanted to call them scrubs, but that post inherently says in all on it’s own.
There are gamers that didn’t read this years ago?
I understand not a ton of people have been members of the FGC, but Playing to Win has been quoted even on WoW forums since arena.
good read! long though!
Yep, I agree whole heatedly with this article.
However, here in the States (for anyone NOT living here) we are dealing with more and more of the -Yoink- “fairness” approach and as you saw in November there are far more lazy, “piece of the pie” morons out there than there is people who are willing to put in the effort and work to find a way to improvise, adapt and overcome.
you’re now seeing it in the games that are produced these days.
We all have a voice, just don’t let yours get drowned out or squelched.
I’m not buying the map pack add-on’s because they’re a waste and seeing as nothing is being fixed, I’m choosing to voice my discontent by NOT giving them any more money.
That’s how I’m showing to Microsoft/343 my displeasure.
Thanks for bringing that article to our attention! Enjoyed the read.
Ah…that “book” again.
Heh. I followed a link to it during Reach. Thought it was trash then, think it’s trash now.
I don’t know how to read. What was it about?
> I don’t know how to read. What was it about?
A hardcore tryhard who believes every single one of us should take videogames super-seriously, and not as a way to relax after a hard day of work.
good post.
tl;dr
I really don’t give a -Yoink- about what the rest of the community is doing. I’m playing it to have fun and to win. That’s all i care about.
I play to have fun, and periodically, I come on here to see commonly-seen tactics that piss other players off, because if they’re playing angry, they’re not playing smart.
“Focus on the journey, not the destination.”
“This is my issue with our community, we don’t have a win-at-all costs attitude. We cry to ban things we don’t like and we make no effort to learn anything new. It hurts us, and it hurts Halo more than you’re probably willing to admit.”
Winning at all costs IS cheap and nothing to feel proud over.
Winning by lag switching is cheap. Hey, everybody could do it so why not?
Winning by bringing 10 people into BTB, then having the 2 oddmen out sabotaging their team is cheap. Hell anybody can bring additional players into a match to help them win, why not?
Winning by grabbing the oddball then hiding inside a wall is cheap. Again this tactic was equally available to either team, so why not?
Winning by parking the tank on the core, then letting it get blown up so that the core is out of reach is cheap. There was an offense and a defense round, so again it was equally available back in Reach to either team, so why not?
Winning by flooding your opponent’s with data packets and lagging them out is cheap, but hell either team could do it so why not?
I understand the concept about doing what it takes to win, and the link is definitely worth a read despite my disagreements, but I would argue that lines DO need to be drawn somewhere. There are in fact CHEAP tactics. The fact that either side could do something is irrelevant.
I don’t see how anybody who resorted to one of the previously mentioned “Cheap Tactics” could call themselves competitive.

-cough scrub cough-
I’m literally speechless. that one post pretty much shuts down every complaint thread here, in not only the competitive sense but the enjoyment sense as well. Bravo op! That just changed my way of thinking by an incredibly large margin. ARs, needlers, and a bunch of other weapons that are labeled as “cheap” i will start using more often!
I hope people dont misunderstand the core message here (they will, but I can hope).
It’s not “be as cheap as possible.”
it’s “If you want to win, and you have an advantage, USE IT.”
If you want to win, why shouldnt you use the dmr on big maps?
Those who just wanna have fun, fine. Just dont start -Yoinking!- when you lose to people who play to win.
On a big map, I WILL use the DMR.
On a smaller map, with gametypes like oddball and hill, I WILL use the boltshot.
I WILL call in personal ordinance.
I WILL use sprint and mobility.
I WILL use camo and snipes.
Why? Because I aim to curbstomp your -Yoink-, not play nice.

You are confusing “Cheap” with “Cheating” their is a difference.
The rules do not allow half of those things you mentioned, and can get people banned. The other half are glitches that are only exploitable if a player knows and can do the exact combination of events and commands, and they can’t be researched through the games guide.

aaaaaaand scrub.
That post is about people who do take the game seriously, but refuse to use good tactics.
It’s not directed towards you guys who just play for fun and don’t care about winning.
OMG…this is like my gaming gospel! It’s good to know someone thinks the same way I do. I do need to improve a little on my tactics though, I think reading this will improve my overall play, its already got me thinking about different counters.
