So now we all know that unlike previous Halos, Infinite assigns each team a different colored outline/hue/highlight/whatever you’d like to call it surrounding the players’ armors, instead of directly painting the armors red/blue. What’s more, you are able to choose which color to assign to your friend and foes.
I didn’t get invited to this round so I decided to watch gameplay videos posted by those who where and of course 343’s official preview stream. While the option to choose your FoF color scheme is nice, I can’t help but notice identifying players via outlines can still be a bit difficult, at least according to the videos I watched. For example, by default blue outlines mark teammates and red is for enemies, but when enemy bots wear blue armor, it is very easy for the player to misjudge. In such situations the option to change color schemes does not help, as when you match with real human players (not in this flight but definitely down the line) you couldn’t possibly know the enemy team’s armor colors in advance, thus you couldn’t switch the schemes accordingly, and even if you could, switching color schemes for each game is just a painful chore. Being able to pick color schemes yourself does help people who have problems with color recognition, but its visibility is always worse than the old system simply because painted armors are just easier to spot than thin outlines.
What I’m proposing is maybe 343 can implement a toggle switch akin to MCC’s classic/new skin switch, except this time players use it to choose whether they want to use the new colored-outlines system or the old colored-armors system. And the option to pick color schemes should be preserved whether the player uses outlines or armor paints. This way everybody can choose to play as they like without affecting other people.
Naturally I’ll have to wait for an invitation and see for myself to truly have a legitimate opinion on it, but until then, I think this should offer a nice solution to the FoF arguments.

It is blatantly obvious who the enemy is. I am against any toggle since you have to pay for store cosmetics.
Ive played 10+ hours(ive lost track) and its not JUST a thin outline. The outline is also filled in, even through walls. And theres a small dot over them. For me blue(default) or yellow if they are in combat. So i can nearly at any moment see where every teammate is across the map from those.
Going into this i was worried as well about this very thing but honestly it took almost NO adjuatment time. Just a few seconds when i notkced i can see my teammates across the map on my first game. It looks wonky in vidies, yeah ill admit. But when playing it kinda feels natural.
Honestly ive been confused why people are complaining about it “not working” this whole time
There’s nothing wrong with a toggle, I’d argue it’s probably a good idea for all the classic fans who want Halo 3.2.
But whatever videos OP has been watching is blowing the issue way out of proportion. I never once gotten confused by the outlines at all since launch (apart from that time I changed enemies to green but I’m sure you can understand). Furthermore none of my team seem to be actively shooting at me.
The only real concern I’d have with this new system is accessibility for people with sight problems, but even then it is a step above the single coloured options from previous games.

But it’s my experience and I should be able to curate to my liking , red v blue is the real halo experience from my perspective
toggling Is a nice option that can keep all of us happy ,

Thanks! Just to be clear, I wasn’t exactly proposing a toggle for legacy red vs blue per se. I was proposing a toggle for choosing between colored-armor and colored-outlines. I think it’s great that Inifnite allows you to choose FoF colors and they should keep it, so in my idea, say you want yellow for teammates and red for enemies, then my proposed colored-armors options would paint your team’s armors green and the other team’s armor red. It combines Infinite’s choice of color with the classic full-body paints.
Hopefully the videos are indeed overblowing the problem. Some videos I watched had bots wearing blue armor but outlined in red, and teammates wearing blue armor and outlined in blue, or red armors with blue outlines. I was still able to tell people apart, just not as fast as in old Halos. Had moments of hestitation.
Can’t wait to try out myself!

It wouldn’t make me happy at all. I don’t want my purchases nor unlockable content minimized. It completely ruins the point of customizing armor coatings.

Then it really seems to be a watching vs actually playing issue. Some videos I watched had blue bots outlined in red with blue friendlies outlined in blue and red friendlies outlined in blue, so there were several times I got confused for a split second. Hopefully I’ll get invited soon and see for myself.

You can select what colors are for teammates. Enemies, and your fireteam
And yeah this game has a pretty big dkfference beyween watching and pkaying. Like it already LOOKED fun with the campaign demoblast year. It plays even better

Thats really sweet that you customise your armor just for little old me .
Pointless though because I don’t care or even notice it it’s just white noise but now it gphas to negatively impact my experience .
buying armor for the validation of others you should seek a professional and get some help with that

I know, and I was thinking if 343 could extend this to a somewhat legacy system. Like, now you can make teammates show up in green or yellow outlines instead of the default blue outlines, and I’d like 343 to gives us the choice to paint the full armor in your chosen colors in team multiplayer, not just the outlines.

I am free to have my own opinion. It seems like you are too busy being toxic to understand that. Of course I want people to see me the way I intend lol. They are literally making it a point to push player expression.
You can make the outline more thick and opaque than what it is by default if you want.

Wow that’s nice! Haven’t seen any videos bring that up!
I personally am not a fan of the new system. I appreciate what they’re trying to do, but I have mistaken enemies for friendlies a few times. My main gripe with it though is that it’s harder to see an unshielded (one shot) enemy unless you poped the shields yourself. Yes there is a static like effect, but I still don’t like it. Overshield looks crap too.

Yeah, just saw it yesterday, the default is 0.6, you can make it opaque all the way up to 1.0.
I can make a clip for it when I get home this afternoon if you want

The best color for enemy is Yellow, that way you can see them out of shield more easily but if you chose yellow to your foes be advised that you should choose a way contrasting color for your friends.
The yellow is also good because I never saw a single person using a yellow armor in this preview yet and I honestly think that yellow will not be a that much picked color anyway, so it is good because we will almost never mistake the outline with armor.
There is one big problem though with the yellow, your friends in the radar sometimes are yellow and that might be confusing, I hope we can change the radar colors in the full build of the game though.

What’s toxic is you saying , no you shouldn’t be allowed to curate your own experience on your own screen the way you like it because I need validation of my purchase .
Don’t run at me with 'your toxic and you don’t understand ’ card . I absolutely understand why 343 want to do it I just don’t agree with it hence why I suggested a compromise that could suit all in the community but apparently you pushing your self indulgence and personal validation is more important than the rest of us .

Dude, even Dota that the only income is basically from flashy, golden pieces of cosmetics that you can only buy with real money, you don’t have another way to buy it, they give you the option to toggle all the cosmetics off and I never saw anyone complaining about that but here you are complaining about we having that option on Halo, yet you are calling others toxics? No, you are the toxic one here.
I like this new system and will use it but having options it is never a bad thing, never! Anyone should enjoy the game the way they want, you want to enjoy this way? Nice, me too but give the option to people enjoy the way they want too.

What’s more, you are able to choose which color to assign to your friend and foes.

And the option to pick color schemes should be preserved whether the player uses outlines or armor paints. This way everybody can choose to play as they like without affecting other people.

So saying “buying armor for the validation of others you should seek a professional and get some help with that” because I have a differing opinion is not toxic? Like come on lol. I love how you counter that I am being toxic when I haven’t stated anywhere close to that demeaning. I was just stating how I view the situation, but sure.
