343i has harped on the immersion and full spartan experience countless times since the game was delayed, but some of the decisions made just don’t support that.
Some examples, in no particular order:
- Outlines
This might be the most egregious example. Nothing breaks immersion quite like blobs of neon glow bouncing around the map throughout the game and obstructing your visibility while in gunfights. - Recoil
Why the hell does a genetically modified Spartan have recoil on a battle rifle? Sniper maybe. It seems that the dude can flip over a Warthog but can’t keep his gun from kicking. - Player collision
Running through teammates is just strange with the ghosting effect that happens. No friendly fire either. Shoot a rocket at a group of people, your team lives, enemy dies. No consequence for poor gameplay and breaks immersion. If you’re really going for the spartan experience, no spartan would shoot a rocket or throw a grenade at his teammate’s feet. - Pelican drops of Banished vehicles??
Makes no sense why UNSC would be dropping off ghosts, wraiths and banshees. - Spartan chatter
I personally find it annoying as hell, but I guess some people like it. It would fit the immersion narrative more if the things they said weren’t completely useless. I don’t care that you “Did some damage” or “He’s in my sights”. I can’t imagine Spartans saying this stuff and it breaks immersion for me. I’d turn them off but it didn’t seem to work in the flights.
