I'm worried the lack of playlists is because 343..

is trying too hard to push people to play Warzone…

the trailers kept stressing Warzone, Warzone, Warzone.
Breakout has been a welcomed addition, but compared to past Halo games, the Halo 5 playlist lineup looks sparse.
Maybe 343 is trying to consolidate the shrinking population into fewer playlists to make it seem the game is populated/easy to find a game?

Whatever the reason, it needs to change or they’re going to lose a lot of players. More content is always better than less.

So are they pushing casual Warzone? Or forcing HCS tournament style play down our throats? People keep teeter tottering between the two.

There you go.
That and certain modes simply just dont exist yet like grifball and infection.

Yes more playlists for Arena would be great.

Grifball is a must. Doubles might be good. Snipers. Action Sack. I love Breakout and classic modes, but agree they need more variety to keep people invested.

Please, eventually bring back Objective too!

Hope they add Infection in this months update.

Infection I get. Dedicated playlist for flag, snipers and doubles I get, but I can’t for the life of me see what people’s obsession with grifball is. It’s trash.

maybe they’re concerned about people being overwhelmed by too many playlist options and just staring at the screen not knowing what to play?

One time when less is more is when you have a smaller player population so you want to fill playlists to make matchmaking faster and more effective.
Since they apparently aren’t sharing the population numbers, this could very well be the case.

They’re pushing an HCS super-hardcore-style-multiplayer in every facet of matchmaking that actually resembles Halo. One of their only two “social” (and I use that term as loosely as possible) playlists featured Snipers and no radar 2/3 of the time.

Warzone is fun and all, but last I checked Halo didn’t have - and people didn’t want Halo to have - perks, unlocks, and microtransaction-centric gameplay replacing social Big Team in Halo, and especialy the entire rest of standard social playlists - with no guests and all.

And I do have an inkling that Warzone is the entire reason splitscreen was actually cut, making Warzone the biggest reason Halo 5 is the least social, but that’s a conspiracy theory for perhaps another day.

At first I loathed it.

But with a proper team, it’s the most fun I had in Halo in a while.

It’s like [American] football, but with weapons.

I wouldn’t mind playing Warzone if I liked it. I hate it. I wouldn’t mind them actually taking the objective modes and putting them in warzone. Warzone is essentially Strongholds somewhat already anyways. Taking control of those points and all. The game mode is just one big chaotic mess to me though. And then the PvE elements are lackluster and as I stated when this game launched and now others are finally saying it, having Warden Eternal all over the place is straight up boring.

Yep. As I’ve always said, anything that 343 creates gets pushed hard, even if it’s not successful or thought out (ordinances, breakout, warzone, promethean weapons, etc). Anything that Bungie created gets swept under the rug like an old newspaper (popular playlists, fundamental gameplay, file sharing, weapon characteristics, etc). It’s just not a logical business strategy. When you have a business that’s successful, even if it goes through an ownership change, you don’t rapidly change the essence of the business just to put your name on it and see what happens.

343 doesn’t know how fortunate they are. The main reason they have made significant money on these games is because they are using Halo’s name. And for that reason they always will make money. I mean heck, the games weren’t even that successful as it was, one of which didn’t even work. If H4 and H5 were independent games with different names unassociated with Halo, they wouldn’t be nearly as successful. However it’s sad to me that such a frontrunner game is now just another run of the mill game because of the selfishness of an outsider. They have “gone out of their way” to include many of the requests that the community has asked for, but they have all been half-hearted attempts because they only take away from what 343 was intending the game to be about. I almost feel like every time we ask for something basic like playlists or file sharing it’s like they roll their eyes. Heaven forbid we want to enjoy in this game, what we enjoyed in the last. So all of our favorite parts of the game are hampered by whatever experiment comes next.

It’s not that people are teeter tottering, it’s that 343 is creating a divide between what they WANT the game to be, and what the game is.

I’m willing to state that warzone is the reason BTB was both late and sabotaged, but while I do have enough conjecture to paint a convincing image, I don’t actually have a single fact to back that up.

ehh, people just want to complain because Halo 5 isn’t exactly like Halo 2 or 3. This is the mad as hell but don’t know why generation of gamers, they don’t have firm positions, they’ll change opinions at the drop of a dime just so they can complain

343 did mention during the MCC that they could only support a certain amount of playlists . i think their reasoning was that they couldn’t or wouldn’t support playlists that aren’t getting used much. doesnt make any sense really. there will always be dead zones in search times on less popular playlists but that doesnt mean you should exclude them. seems like these next gen consoles have fewer and fewer key features these days. split screen? nope sorry. lots of variety in gametypes/playlists? can’t support them anymore. ridiculous.

i hope this isn’t the case with halo 5, if so we are looking at having a cap of 6-8 arena playlists which is not enough .im not ok with sacrificing playlists in order to find games quicker. whatever the reason, it is unacceptable. there should be at least 10 arena playlists, for instance 6 ranked and 4 social. that still seems like a low number…why does 343 have to hold out on us.

Sadly they are pushing warzone on everyone because of the REQ system. You get points to unlock things. Gamer’s now love to unlock new things and warzone gives you points to do so. They give little amount of points for anything thing else you do. Plus if they are pushing the REQ system right they can get people to use money to buy more stuff. Not trying to get into the pay to win debate like other forums. I believe that they don’t know what to do next. They don’t want to make it seem like they can only use what Bungie has left them. They are hoping that their ideas are enough and Halo needs to take a turn in a certain direction to compete with the fps titles in today’s standards. Sad part is that the Halo community…well most the community want things to go back to the cut and dry standards. You were either deadly or just dead a lot in the matches. They want their new ideas to work so badly that they seem to be either holding information from us like the population counts or any type of things they are testing out like game types to work in Halo 5. On the other hand big brother microsoft can have 343i’s hands tied and telling them that the best thing for the franchise is to move this way against the grain. They want the game to sell like the other titles (CoD, BF) and not just have a old niche following. So, we may see Grifball and maybe some objective game types. Though they will probably not be like we remember because they are not original ideas from 343i.

You are correct. They wanted to see how well their ideas worked and wait for the outcry for BTB. After the outcry they released them on forged maps no actual maps. I don’t remember the name of the map but it was a throwback to Halo 2 to give people that feeling of nostalgia. I want the actual map if we are doing that.

The one thing I loved that most people did hate was Halo 4’s game type Regicide. I played it until they said no more and took it out. I thought that it was going to make a comeback in the MCC…I was sadly mistaken. Well this was my opinion/rant.

We’re not teeter-tottering: they’re both happening.
There is currently one, post-launch social playlist in arena. Heck, even unranked BTB can make you break a sweat sometimes. Arena is too competitive for many.
Warzone on the other hand is a chaotic mess. Giant maps and micros are too casual for many. There’s no middle ground.
What this game could really use is a handful of social arena playlists. 4v4, unranked on medium sized maps. I think that would help the population.
