If jetpack isn’t removed or revised entirely, how is 343i going to keep maps from being ruined by jetpack?
It’s impossible not to. Unless the ceilings are 8ft high at every point.
honestly, i dont know why people use jetpacks it just makes them easy targets to kill.
Jet packs will break any map.
I’ve posted this before, but if jetpacks acted more as a jump-pack (like a grenade jump), maps’ flow would preserved.
Easy solution make jet packs limited to usage, make them limited around the map, get rid of loadouts.

Like Evade, but vertical and single-use? Yes.

Exactly. You can’t break a map with that since grenade jumping will always exist, and the jump-pack would simply facilitate that rather than give you a constant stream of propulsion.

^ i could definitely see this working
I think it depends largely on the map design…they need to avoid really wide open yet vertical maps like swordbase. If there’s any change I’d like to see happen to the jetpack it’s removing the ability to fly for so long and so high, so the double jump thing could work. That or remove the ability to shoot during use, kind of like sprint.
Jetpack should just be a super jump and not a “I BELIEVE I CAN FLY!!!” ability.
This way all it does is give you extra vertical lift like a gravity lift. Otherwise it’ll break any map regardless of how it’s designed. You can’t design a map for the jetpack and then expect it to play well–especially when jetpack isn’t there.
I think if the maps are very well designed and completely considerate of the effect jetpack is going to have on them then jetpack isn’t necessarily map breaking. However if jetpack doesn’t seem to be well enough considered cough Reach cough then yes, the maps will be broken. End of story.

This would be ideal.

This is what I was hoping they would do. It’s be a sort of “double jump” feature, like a weaker version of the Brute’s jump pack from Halo 3.

They are making the maps with jet pack in mind.

That;s a logical absurdity. It is impossible to make a map where jetpack works.
Or you know, people can learn to aim in this strange new direction known as “up”.

At least in Reach, the jetpack ascended faster than aim acceleration allowed you look up.

I honestly don’t see how going up breaks a map, if 343 allows a player to reach a spot then let them. To me it’s quite similar to taking the Banshee in Halo 2’s Coagulation and flying to that one rock sticking out or to the top of the building in Headlong (Although you can’t anymore in the remake)and turning it into a sniping post. Also when they use the jet pack they take the risk of becoming targets due to their limited mobility.

This is probably the WORST thing they could possibly do. Halo: Reach did that and that’s mostly the reason the maps were so awful. Let’s not mention the maps that weren’t designed around the jet pack.
If a map is designed around the jet pack, the map becomes stale, especially to players who aren’t using the jet pack. No player should EVER be given such an advantage when it comes to traversing a map, regardless of his vulnerability.
Think of Reflection. This map was broken due to the jet pack. You could jump three tiers in 4 seconds without worrying about getting shot at. The map was constricted in terms of view, so you could pull it off. Halo 2’s Ivory Tower was NOT built to be able to do that.
