I'm tired of having competitive Halo forced on me

First off, I want to say that I understand that Halo 4 was far too casual-based, and that a strong competitive scene is very beneficial to Halo’s success. The HCS is proof that competitive Halo can bring together the community in fantastic ways.

That being said, I AM NOT A PRO PLAYER. I do not ever want to be a pro player, nor do I give a damn about trying to be Onyx or Champion or whatever. I hate the way that Halo 5 is tailored to professionals and team players.

Look, I get it. Having a tiny and useless radar promotes team communication, just like how the MLG playlists in past Halo games had no radar. But I have no desire to play the way the pro players do. I just want to play some good old Slayer or CTF without having to worry about requiring a full team of 4 friends to have a good time without the enemy team wiping the floor with us. And yet, due to 343i’s insistence on having competitive-only ranked playlists for most of the game, I cannot do that. If I want to play these new and fantastic arena maps, or anything that isn’t Warzone/BTB/Infection, I’m forced to go into a playlist where I’m doomed to fail unless I’m full of competitive spirit.

I fail to see why we’re all forced to play these super competitive gametypes when they have the option to do what Bungie did with their Halo games : give us BOTH permanent ranked and social playlists. You want your 18m radar ranked Slayer and HCS playlist where you’re encouraged to be in a team? Sure, you can have it. But for those of us who want to just sit back and play some regular slayer with a 25 or 30m radar without stress, without having 10-game loss streaks, why can we not have a 4v4 social slayer playlist as well? The road to success is options, giving players the ability to play what they want. As it stands right now, we have no options. And the only option we have was created by the pro team, with pro players in mind. Arena is not tailored for non-competitive players, and we have no suitable replacement for arena either.

Sure, you might say that splitting the community is bad and having both social and ranked playlists would not help. But what about all of those who left because they did not enjoy being forced to play ranked? At this rate, I can definitely say that I rarely ever play Team Arena or Slayer since I do not enjoy playing these competitive playlists, and they end up being more frustrating than fun. I’m sure that there are many others who have felt the same way.

Again, I’m not saying that 343i should change or disband ranked or the HCS in any way, I strongly support all of that. But at the same time, they should also do what Bungie did, and give us social playlists as well.

I think the issue is that 343, unlike Bungie, is trying to make the whole game of Halo 5 fit into the competitive scene. This is why they try to have a mix of all the weapons in the playlists. They have recently brought in the Hydra and Boltshot, which in my opinion, have no place in the scene. This also applies to the plasma caster.

If H5 is too competitive for you there is other Halo games out there… even on Xbox one… just saying.

Hotrod just asked for a few more social playlists, it’s really not that much to ask of 343.

That’s a terrible solution. I really enjoy playing Halo 5, the gameplay is fantastic. I just wish that there were more options for those of us who aren’t really into the competitive scene.

Infection. Griffball. Btb. Warzone.

Unfortunately, you are right. This game forces you to be hyper competitive in nearly every playlist. I have tried playing nonchalantly, it might work for a few minutes or a game, but after a while of not going hard core to win 1 on 1 fights and what not, you just realize you have to step up and start playing sweaty to get the job done.

Where is social 4v4 slayer, ctf, assault, oddball?

In the slayer and arena playlists. Cheers.

The game doesn’t force anything on you. It’s the players that are to blame. Take warzone for example, no skill based matchmaking, no rankings, no team v team pairing, etc. Yet there are still people out there that take it a little too seriously.

If you think adding more ‘social’ playlists will change this, you’re sadly mistaken. They had social slayer before, and the same behavioral patterns were seen.

Exactly my main point! Sure, Warzone and Infection are fun, but I also want to play some Slayer and objective games without having to be competitive…

I always thought PvP was competitive to some extent. For the first 3 halo’s i just stuck to the campaign, because I did not want competitive. Tried PvP in reach and H4, Am really enjoying it in H5. if I dont want competitive I go back to the campaign. It was nice to have the firefight beta, and can’t wait for it to come back. That felt noncompetitive, like the campaign.

It does have to do with how the game was designed as well. There are too many random variables in this game, and it’s much more fast paced. Naturally a faster paced game requires you to adapt to faster reflexes, thinking, aiming, etc. For ex: I never had to try so hard to out BR someone in previous games, now some guy can jump and thrust around, making it much more challenging.

Oh of course, someone suggests just going back to the MCC. Guess what? The MCC is DEAD. Yes, you can find matches, but they are rarely any fun anymore. The game is filled with people who simply quit if they don’t get the game they want. In BTB, you literally can not play anything but Halo 3 anymore if you want to have a full game that is somewhat competitive. You can get a team to rig the vote for other games, but first of all, obviously everyone just quits, and second of all, parties in MCC are still broken. I used to play with a group of people who would regularly get together to do BTB. We did this frequently during the first couple of months that Halo 5 was out, so it’s not like this was an older version of the game. Every time we would do it, it would take thirty minutes of people doing hard resets and reloading their games just to get everyone in the lobby, and then even after that’s done, people will frequently get kicked after matches, or will have to reload their games again because they got stuck with a double screen. Don’t try to say it’s our connections either because Halo 5 doesn’t do this (although I do experience an occasional disconnect. Other than that, pretty good.), and neither does any other game I’ve played.

My point is, stop telling people to go back to the MCC. It’s nothing more than a wasteland of quitters, bugs and glitches, and the crushed dreams of those who thought that classic Halo would make a triumphant return. We’re pretty much stuck with Halo 5. I have no problem with 343 trying to give the game a strong competitive scene, but is it really that much to ask that we get just a few social playlists? Social slayer, social free for all, and maybe social objective would probably be enough. A mere three extra playlists. Why is 343 so stubborn on limiting the playlist selection to no more than 6 or 7?

The multiplayer options in Halo 5 are WEAK, and need expanding, period.

Is an interesting campaign, social playlists, a user friendly UI, and outstanding servers really too much to ask for?

343i can focus on competitive Halo as much as they would like, just pay a little attention to us casual players too.

Which are competitive. Play Halo 3 and Reach brah.

That is the worst response you could possibly think of.

OP, I agree wholeheartedly. We need more social playlists like Action Sack and Social Slayer. (Action Sack would include Classic Fiesta, Super Fiesta, Swords, Sumo, and other crazy fun stuff.)

Social playlists are nothing but playlists without rank or anything like that, you aren’t safe from a team that can destroy you.

A terrible comment, OP still want to play Halo 5.

But it’s something you can play without having to worry about your rank.

I’ve never understood this argument. Social playlists allow you to not worry about stats, but there’s no reason why an opponent isn’t going to try and kill you before you kill them. If you are casual, then what do your stats matter?

I have played under 5 games on a team, everything else has been solo. Sometimes it doesn’t work out and my team will get destroyed, but it really doesn’t matter. I have fun trying new strategies, using different weapons (which is constantly exciting due to the variety), and sometimes screwing around trying to take bases alone despite the odds against me.

It seems a lot of people are hung up on stats to the point of not having any fun playing. THAT is what needs to be fixed!
