Lost first eight matches. I’ve watched a couple of tips for beginners videos, but doesn’t seem to help. The basic advice everyone gives is: go for two control points right at the start, always try to get energy, run from battles you can’t win, look at the mini map. That got me from being wasted 200-0, to running around trying to do all of those, being too slow, and losing 200-73.
Granted, RTS is something I play very rarely. But still… any tips on how to get better?
Maybe try and learn your units, how to counter the enemy units and vice versa. It’s particularly easier in Blitz as you can always see your enemy and what they have. Build yourself a deck and look out for what units are work for you and what do; and always remember the “Scissors, Paper, Rock” Balance of the game. Ground Vehicles take out Infantry, Infantry Take out Air, Air Takes out Vehicles. That applies to most units in the game.
A strategy which I’ve learned from my few games is to watch what your teammate is doing. If they are building a massive army and holding one spot, try and prioritize capturing points. Scare the enemy with a tank or something on one point and move your smaller weaker army to the other.
If your teammate is going on a brilliant adventure, either join them or stay specifically on one point and build a big scary army as well as being the resource collector.
If you discover a better strategy, go ahead and use that instead. Mine was probably quite bad, I was just telling you what works for me.
If you have a friend or are open to voice chat, discuss strategies and decks if you want to. It will probably help.
At the beginning of a match, I generally try to cap all 3 points before going for energy, but that’s just me.
Also, if your opponent sends their entire army to contest a point, don’t be timid about sending an air unit or a Ghost/Warthog to claim their undefended one.

See, I didn’t know that. That actually sounds like good advice. I’ll definitely try that. Thanks!
take CorruptKnight’s advice, besides that all you can do is play a lot of games. Eventually you will develop your own little counters and tactics, or learn from losing against them, or learn from friends. Playing the game a lot and losing matches, and then analyzing your play and that of your enemy, is the main way to improve especially in RTS. This is where Replays are useful but I’m not sure if HW2 will have such a function
I feel the same way in that I keep losing, I main the Banished and it feels as if the UNSC is just more powerful. I think the way the card UI works throws me off though, why do we lose energy for swapping cards out? it think it should just be a scroll menu, it would make locating the card you want so much easier and faster.
From what I have experienced so far the first few encounters can be immensely important, so make sure to strategize for them. This is due to how easily these games tend to snowball against a player.
