I used to think that it was a good thing that it wasn’t included because the brute plasma rifle takes long enough to kill with its faster ROF. But the game really could have benefited from having such a weapon. I think they could have increased the damage slightly, making it a 9 or 10 hit kill weapon instead of the 12 required by the brute variant. That would help compensate for the lack of fire rate.
A standard Plasma Rifle would be a strange weapon amongst the Storm Rifle and the Brute Plasma Rifle. The Storm is a great all-rounder, while the Brute is a shield-melting machine; would it be somewhere in between?
What I don’t get is why, if they were going to add a Plasma Rifle why not add the one that’s been in the series since the beginning as the base variant & just give it the damage, ROF, etc. properties that they gave the Brute Plasma Rifle? And if they had to implement REQ variants like they did make the Brute Plasma Rifle the next tier variant(instead of Sorrow of Teash) & give it it’s properties of better accuracy & upgraded heat dissipation & then just leave the Scale of Soirapt as is?

I guess I just figured it would be in between. It would shoot slower, but do a tad more damage. They could have it drop shields in 3 and kill in 7 additional shots. The BPR is 4 and 8 more shots for reference. I guess my thinking behind this is that blue plasma is much higher energy than red and will do more damage. They did a similar thing already with the plasma pistol which drops shields in 3 and kills in another 6 shots.

That’s a really interesting idea. It is really an iconic weapon tbh and it feels a bit off that it isn’t in game. To answer your question: I think the BPR has enjoyed much more fanfare than most covenant weapons. I wouldn’t mind leaving the variants they have in the game though. The PR could be the 4th weapon in the plasma rifle series and it could be the most watered down like you said, costing only 1 point (since the BPR starts at 2). Lots of weapons have 4 variants. There are 4 Spankrs, 4 sniper rifles, etc.

I for one support this notion. And I imagine it would be pretty easy to implement into the game. How I would love to see the H2A Plasma Rifle model in Halo 5…
I can’t really remember right now (there are so many weapons), but isn’t it the only Brute weapon in the game? I think it dropped with the update that was near the release of Halo Wars 2, and was probably added just because of that.
I wish they bring standard plasma rifle and flame thrower back on next update with all the brute weapons in halo 3. Brute shot, Mauler, Spiker i dont remember if there’s more

There won’t be another content update.

That and the gravity hammer are all that come to mind.
I really don’t like how everything else Brute related has just disappeared to kinda smooth over the transition away from them. Like they got rid of the Brute Shot and introduced the concussion rifle. Then they got rid of the spikers, spike and incendiary grenades, maulers, brutes, choppers, prowlers, etc. The BPR is more of some covy tech the prophets directed to be incorporated exclusively for brutes than something the brutes made for themselves. Imagine if there was a “Grunt Gravity Hammer.” It’s not covy/grunt tech and it doesn’t really suit them either. I guess this is just a discussion for another topic lol I could go on forever.

Well see, that’s the thing, after Tartarus was defeated the Brutes broke off from the Covenant (I think), and therefore aren’t canonically a threat in H5, therefore would not be a priority to train against in the simulator. Hence most of their weapons and vehicles not appearing in H5.
I expect we’ll see it return in H6, the Storm was defeated. It’d be cool to see a balance but I feel it’ll end up being useless.

All of Halo 3 occurred after Tartarus’ death. Brutes with power armor, maulers, spikers, the mass produced gravity hammers, prowlers, and pretty much all other brute tech came out after he died.

Ah, yeah, you’re right, my memory is terrible. Still, in H5 the Brutes aren’t a current enemy, that’s most likely 343’s reasoning.

After tartarus died the brutes shaved as a sign of honouring a great leader, the banished were already opposed to the covenant somewhat early-on to midway through the human-covenant war. Brutes were still with the prophets.
After the war the remaining prophets took what was left of the covenant and went into hiding, brutes were still working for them as well some feeling lost and unsure of themselves similarly to elites, some were even allowed to live and work on sangheilios for a time.
Just the Storm Faction there were many other factions consisting of varying races and leaders, and there would have been some brute ones that were either aggressive or passive just like the elite factions. There was even a Kig-Yar who wanted to unite all the Kig-yar under one flag but I think she’s dead now.
What bugs me is that during Spartan Ops and even in one of the book series Elites were very willing to use weapons from any faction so long as it killed. In the books set a little before the storm faction was made some Elites were buying weapons (mixture of recovered plasma weapons and UNSC weapons) from ONI (ONI was trying to push the Sangheili Civil War) as well as Jackal traders and Black markets. After that in Spartan Ops you play a mission where an Elite War Criminal was stealing a large number of UNSC assets and my question is why the lack of covenant weapons? Why arent we seeing elites, grunts, jackels ect using human and brute weapons, the variation of the Storm factions arsenal would have been huge in their desperation for weapons.
Blue plasma rifle would be a welcome return, especially since it was one of the most vastly manufactured weapons of the covenant, it would be easy af to get your hands on one. They could make it slightly stronger as OP said as well as adding the stun feature it had from CE.
One thing the plasma rifle always had was a climb in fire rate (the brute PR is lacking this in H5) and I think they could add that back too.

Nope, the increase in rate of fire is only in Combat Evolved, you can rapid fire in Halo 2 (not unique to that weapon) by tapping the trigger but you can’t hold to do that.
The Upgrades kinda make it look like a standard Plasma Rifle.

It’s in every other halo but it’s barely noticeable in some unless you actually listen to the sound of it shooting, seemingly after the thirds shot or so, it’s not a gradual increase its almost instantaneous.
I’m sure it wouldn’t be too difficult. All they need to do is reskin the Brute one and make the plasma blue.

Alot of Covenant weapons were reprised as more than just weapons. They also were signified as a superior power and were only held by higher-ranking covenant. In CE this was evident by only the higher ranking elites carrying Energy Swords. Same goes with the Grunts and their factions; only the highest held Fuel Rods. Brute Captains had Brute shots and Chieftains had Hammers. Alot of weapons literally signified rank.
This likely could attribute to the lack of UNSC weapons being used, but then again our ammo was physical, while most covenant weaponry was battery-based on ammo. It would make more sense to keep using ammo that’s most efficient and readily available in supply.
