So, they say for the LE version of Halo 4, you’ll get 3 map packs included (with 3 maps in each).
Now, are those maps the default maps for the game? Meaning, if you buy the regular version, you have to BUY the multiplayer maps separately? That seems a bit dumb that they’d make you pay $60 for the game, then have to buy 3 map packs at probably $10 a piece just to play multiplayer online?
OR…
Are those 9 EXTRA maps, in addition to the multiplayer maps that you have to download (a la the 8gb they said you need to download for multiplayer)? I haven’t read anywhere that clarifies this simply. All I know is:
You need 8gb of HDD space to download multiplayer for the game
There are 3 map packs, with 3 maps in each, that will be available for purchase/download upon release
I just don’t know if those map packs are part of that 8gb download (thereby letting people who get the LE version of the game install them without having to download), or if they’re an addition to that, meaning even LE version buyers will have to download the 8gb multiplayer, AND THEN install another 9 maps after the fact.
Can anyone straighten this out for me an anyone else wondering?
There is no 8 Gb download. The multiplayer requires 8 Gb of space for installation from the disc to your hard drive.
Whether or not installation is required has not been answered yet. They seem to have implied that installation is required, but I they haven’t outright said it.

Yeah, more or less Halo’s DLC is basically the same, but instead of people paying for the map pack one at a time, when they come out, they get them for free if they get LE, and cheaper if they buy the map pack pass thing. It’s a good deal, I highly suggest getting it.

All of the official information I’ve read for it, says it’s not required, just suggested, but the way they worded it, people easily get confused over it.

Whaaat? So there’s going to be, what, a dozen or so maps + 9 more extra ones that you get right away (if you order the LE version)?
That’s nuts… I love it
I’d much rather have them early and get the hang of them before all the n00bs/casuals. Plus, it’s more variety to keep things going.
The only bad thing is that then I have nothing to look forward to, as far as maps go anyway. I have SpartanOps, but nothing for multiplayer. Especially since they’re not incorporating community-made maps into matchmaking.
I think they should make a “Community” playlist, that includes:
• Community Classic (no armor abilities, no specializations, no random weapon drops)
• Community Slayer
• Community SWAT
• Community Snipers
• Community Objective
• Community BTB
…and they all do nothing but community-made Forge maps. And have a way of officially submitting maps, so that they continually add new ones and keep it fresh. Considering how awesome Forge looks in Halo 4, and the fact that there are 3 different worlds, tons of new features, and the pieces aren’t all the same damn texture (at least not from what I’ve seen), it won’t be so boring looking playing on maps that all look exactly the same and only have a small amount of variation in terms of how they actually play.
