Not too long ago, industry insider Brad Sams (who detailed Elite controller and Xbox One X before official reveals) has heard that Microsoft intended to implement loot boxes into Halo 6 similar to Battlefront II. They then retracted from this after all the massive backlash to EA and Battlefront II, supposedly reworking the system. Frankie then made a response on ResetEra, saying:
> This is bunk. We’re not reevaluating anything (significant) and “Microsoft” isn’t designing anything for the next game - 343 is. We watched the EA battlefront thing with the curiosity you’d expect - but our current req system is player focused and well liked and unintrusive as far as these things go.
This scares me somewhat. The majority of the fanbase didn’t like the REQ system (it was one of the least offensive loot box systems). The system was very much NOT player focused, and it IS intrusive. I hope MS allows 343 to make an actual progression system and customization. Let’s pray that we don’t go down the same path many others have. Please…
It seems almost the entire gaming industry started focusing on what benefits company funds rather than what the players truly want. After all the disappointments in the last 8 years with several gaming titles including Halo–I’ll never get my hopes up for a game ever again. In fact, I’ll always expect the game to fail so I don’t get my hopes crushed.
With that said, microtransactions are here to stay whether we like it or not. We have to focus on keeping them limited so they don’t get out of control like Battlefront.

I love how he said it’s not intrusive and people like it when that clearly isn’t the case for the most part.Nobody asked for microtransactions in halo and they were added and they seem to be staying unfortunately

Okay so first of all I’ve got several problems with Frankie’s statement:
1: Why does he post something like this on another platform and not on waypoint (their own Homepage)? I haven’t seen any major posts regarding Halo on waypoint a long time, all information seems to be dropped on third party sites, which wouldn’t be a bad thing if it just happened occasionally, but this isn’t the case…
Whats the problem with posting on your own site 343?
Ps: The only 343 employee I notice around here is Grim, really appreciate what you do, keep up the good work!
2: The Req System was liked??? Just because it didn’t suffer a backlash as big as Battlefront’s and it made a lot of money doesn’t mean it was well liked Frankie!
From a business perspective it seems to have been a commercial success, but many fans (including myself) had some real issues with it. But I’ll get to that later on.
3: Unintrusive? That’s a joke, right??
It was less intrusive as Battlefronts system, but still far from unintrusive for most people.
There are many people in the Halo community that used to rock a specific Emblem/Armor since Halo 2/3 that weren’t able to work for that piece at all and just had to hope the RNG system would give them what they want, so your best bet would’ve been a) putting all your free time to get said piece or b) spending a serious amount of money to do so…
You (in some way) forced people to buy your packs to get what they want which is neither customer friendly nor unintrusive.
- Player focused? Frankie I really like you but that’s just a lie you’re telling here…
Player focused would be a system where you have to complete objective X to get item Y and not a system where everything is just random…
Something like Halo 3’s or Halo Reach’s or even Halo 4’s System is Player focused, something where you had to work and not pay to accomplish your goals.
All in all this statement is a joke and I hope it’s not representing how 343 thinks about the req system, because if that’s the case they are once again making a mistake. Instead of listening to what the fans want, they seem to do what makes the most money for them. That’s a great short term Strategy but if you want to be successful over a long period of time you have to build trust into your ability to make a product that has a high quality and is 100% finished at launch and stop delivering something like MCC or H5.
I also saw that halo 6 will be included in the game pass on launch day. I’m not sure how i feel about that.
