Monetizing forge has got to be the dumbest decision the higher-ups could make.
The backlash they’d get would be insane. They wouldn’t do it.

I too am looking forward to forge also. But it’s not going to do any of us a G-Damn good unless 343i fixes Custom Games area and if we don’t have a Custom Game Browser PERIOD! That is a “FACT!” ![]()
I still don’t understand why we don’t have our own Dedicated Server Software like we had in Halo Combat Evolved and Halo 2 and Halo CE so we don’t have to deal with this crap period! Unfreak’n Believable!!! ![]()
IMHO I don’t think 343i is working in the best interest of the Halo Community. Where I come from “ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!” ![]()
Whatever Forget looks like I know that our community here of Halo fans that the community content that is created from whatever forge looks like will be amazing. I understand the frustration because I too have this frustration of how many things ingame are being monetized. Exactly how Forge will look or feel like is still up in the air and until we get our hands on it we’ve got to try our best to remain patient. Multiplayer was free and addons if you made the decision to buy items instead of just enjoying the free unlockable items.
It may be free but just because it was free does not mean it is good,. Personally I have no problems pay’n for a game if the damn thing works. Halo Infinite as it is now I would not pay a damn thing for as it sits right now. Just because it’s free does not mean it 's good. It’s getting old being a beta tester!

I couldn’t agree more with you. $60 for a complete game with everything given to us is a much better feeling than what we’ve got now. The one true item that is missing for me is a bigger progression like Halo Reach and Halo 3. Only leveling the Battle Pass doesn’t make sense and it’s way too quick for the hardcore gamer. I play maybe 10 hours per week and I completed it about two months ago. I suppose we’ll see where it goes.
Most of the community prior to Halo Infinite’s launch would have no problem with (and probably would have preferred) the game being paid and removing all these microtransactions, but to think that all our problems would go away if they simply charge for the game instead is wishful thinking. We would be in much the same state we are today, only with $60 less in or pockets.
At least with this ftp model I can play the game risk free and then decide if it is worth putting any money into it. I can also more easily leave the game having no investment into it, unlike some overpriced all-you-can-eat buffet where I’m trying to get my money’s worth out of the terrible selections and quality.
They absolutely WOULD do it. They were dumb enough to monetize colors despite the backlash it got them.
Forge has never been monetized. Ever.
The things that tend to receive monetization are armor sets.
I just can’t see them going that far and risk facing the level of anger that would be sent their way.
Forge has never been monetized. Ever.
I agree 100% Bud. I have never paid for Forge! I would never pay for Forge. No way Jose!! ![]()
I uninstalled Halo Infinite BECAUSE of all the asinine decisions behind the game. Just because Forge has never been monetized before doesn’t mean 343 won’t be dumb enough to try it eventually.
Halo Infinite is a game comprised of NOTHING but BAD decisions.
You likely missed it when it first came out. It was EXTREMELY bad and had very little options. If I recall correctly, even snapping wasn’t a thing.
It made a VERY good comeback, which you would think is a good thing, and could possibly be applied to Infinite. However… Halo 5 was paid for.
The feedback wouldn’t matter. And worse decisions have been made.
Basic armor colors were removed so you instead pay for basic armor color presets. MTXing Forge doesn’t beat how absurd that is. Especially since Forge is a secondary feature in a PvP game that some many not even touch.
Forge wasn’t monetized because of three things:
1: The entire game was paid for
2: There were addons that people could pay for in 4 and 5, which were actually respectable. Map packs, certain armors, announcers (Halo 5), and req packs (also Halo 5; and while req packs were looked down on by a lot… they were a system that allowed you to achieve them just by playing).
3: 343 put players first in 4 and 5, and not what they could exploit.
That’s not a valid comparison. Infinite is a game that is F2P, and is showing THE most predatory MTX methods that even put EA to shame. Do you really think Forge is safe if a generic shade of blue costs $10?
I think that at most the monetization on forge would be colors on certain elements or blocks, or a skybox as you mentioned. But they also don’t want to take up space in their store though. I think Otherwise they would be better off monetizing Forge Maps, like Forge World and Anvil Islands and stuff. Every player should be able to use forge, but if 343 does monetize it, it needs to be a flat rate of $30 or so, or monetized for small things that are very specific (like tintable objects).

It could be that.
I headed into forge / scripting very late in the peace… but had a lot of fun.
Hopefully Infinite takes up where H5 left off.
I need to recreate Tag’n’Bag ASAP.
How are people going to find forge servers without a game browser? or will you only be able to do forge with friends?
Never really did Forge in previous games, outside of just building things myself.
I have more faith in the community to make the game than I do 343. Forge is a must asap
Valid comparison? Nothing’s happened yet with forge.
I simply don’t think monetization of forge will get approved. If it does, they’re really shooting themselves in the foot.
They really can’t monetize Forge, or they will have to pay content creators to make maps for them too. I doubt Forge creators will want to provide 343 content for free when they need to pay for the items.
Only monetized they would do is add skins for walls it be same way Conan exile does it and honestly I would be ok with that.
But way how forge is a 3rd party it be very hard for 343 do any real micro transactions on it without braking it. Only thing made halo long lasting is custom games and forge. Even with cool forge without improved custom game it will still fail.
Again on micro is add new skins which I am fine with. Only thing is if they block content but that would make it difficult for creator.
Conclusion is that it operate outside of micro but might have ability to upload new content that might behind a paywall.
