I'm really not looking forward to Forge. Others might not want to either

Not only because we didn’t get it on launch, it got delayed to S#, and don’t be surprised if it comes out missing features, or is delayed once more.

But also because, based on how MTXs are being capitalized at every turn, it’s likely Forge will have different pieces, backdrops, and sets you’ll have to pay for in order to use. Banished structures? Gotta pay. Covenant fleet in the background? Buy it. Oh, you want AI that will allow you to make PvE scenarios? That’s a premium purchase. There’s many examples of this, and adding in new forge MTXs over the years would be incredibly easy.

Seriously, please don’t have high hopes for Forge, which is one thing a lot of people are hanging on to. 343 has listened to next to nothing from us since launch, and has made it clear they likely aren’t making changes until the playerbase is dead (if that). Forge is rife with ways to monetize, so if 343 is going to make us pay for Soldier armor that was entry-level gear in 4 and 5, you can almost be 100% certain Forge will be monetized too.

Edit: fixed mistake made from not reading announcement correctly (thought Forge was pushed from from S2 to S3)

The delay of Forge to S3 isn’t new. That has been said back in 2021. What is new is that Co-op isn’t ready for the start of S2.

As for monetization of forge - we’ll see. It’s not really helping us to speculate about it. 343i are shooting themselves in the foot if they heavily monetize it at it’s a major driver of player engagement and they’ll likely need that given the pace of their own content pipeline. Doesn’t mean they won’t do it - just that it’d likely not be in their best interest to do so.

its certainly a sign that faith to deliver it unspoiled is fading, which isn’t a good sign.

I’m so looking forward to Forge.

Especially scripting.

I’ve got pages of ideas / logic flows. Just need to get my hands on it to see what I can and can’t do.

Fingers crossed Forge comes out with a decent browser. Some sort of community spotlight system. And forum support.

it being delayed longer? fine, whatever, gotta get it in a stable state, if at all… probably is going to still be a buggy mess, given how low 343 has set the expected bar

but given that the game is f2p and the amount of people that’ve accepted how overly monetized the game is… forge i’m betting will be monetized too. i mean, why not? 343 already has tons of defenders of such actions, so why not keep leaning towards the whales and monetize it to most likely great success and profit. i’l be surprised and pleased if they don’t, but i also will not be surprised if forge is monetized. just gunna dissapoint myself before 343 does again. and most likely uninstall the game if forge is monetized… i ain’t gunna supporting low effort cash grabs

If everyone in the community were to think this way, lowering their expectations of Forge and expecting it to be monetized, then why on earth would 343 not monetize it? This is similar to when players say they expect very little from a studio at launch (DICE for example). Why would the studio bother to put effort into things, when player expectations are so low for both the studio and product to begin with? Unsuprisingly, every Battlefield has had a worse launch than the last…

343 has its issues and there are certainly disappointments with Infinite, but if the player base stops expecting quality things or fair monetization, we shouldn’t be surprised if we get the bare minimum.

I’m very much looking forward to Forge, if they microtransaction forge it would be the worst decision by 343 to date.

TBF forge is the only mode 343 has be consistently really good at delivering on.

I can’t see how they’ll add forge objects via MTX as people could just use maps which already have them in place. Also, it was never delayed to season 2 and was always delayed to season 3. From what I’ve seen, I’m actually really excited for Forge, if 343 fix custom games and add more options etc.

Yeh not expecting Forge to be good.
343i forced predatory system instead of proper progression system and Halo 5 had the worst forge in the series so my expectations for Halo Infinite’s forge is pretty low. I wouldn’t be surprised if 343i forced awful MT’s into forge and that’s just depressing to think about.

About time it release that excitement for it will be dead that not many will have the motivation, especially if they pull the BS they are now with the shop.

And I’ll be there to play it in all its scuffed glory.

Seriously? Halo 5 forge was awesome.

Forge mode is the only thing that has a chance of making me play the game again. 343i really set the bar quite high for what Forge mode can offer when it was released for Halo 5: Guardians, so if it doesn’t deliver something similar right off the bat with todays generation of consoles, it could be the final nail in the coffin.

No it really wasn’t. My least played forge because I hated it. I accept some people like it but it was awful. If Infinite’s forge is as bad as Halo 5’s forge then I can not be bothered with it. Getting kind of used to being disappointed with 343i. Loved Halo Reach’s forge but Halo 5’s awful forge mode makes me rather spend more time making stuff in UE4 instead instead of making fun Halo content in forge. Halo 5’s forge was mediocre.

What turned you off?

Was it the UI? The controls? The pieces? The way it looked?

I did a bit of Forging in Reach… but didn’t do anything in H4. But I came back to Halo 5 for the scripting.

I found it overly fiddly to place bits… and very frustrating with no undo button. But after a while I got used to it. But I don’t really remember enough of Reach’s to put my finger on anything that H5 did badly.

And scripting has really go me excited. It was brimming with potential in H5 - and I am quivering in excitement for Infinite.

The promise of Forge is the only reason I haven’t written this game off yet.

I can’t change the reality of the delays and I know that the mode is being made by the right people, so I’ll wait.

My main problems is I hate the control system and I find it not remotely fun to use. Some people have tried to convince me by trying to say it takes time but not everything is good for everyone plus I hated how much smaller the forge canvas is compared to Forge World.

It just reminds me of the whole Blender/Maya/3dsMax debates because everyone has different preferences and for me Halo 5’s forge was awful. Heck it even made me want to focus more on my 3d work more than just messing around on Forge because Forge was not fun in H5…though oddly I remember some people at 343i somehow thinking this was a good thing and looked like it was a compliment like it was the reason I do things like UE4 but H5 had nothing to do with why I love making games.
