I'm really bad at this game

Any tips (or a thread related to this topic)?

Disclaimer

I’m only diamond two so my tips may not be the best. If onyx/champs contradict any of my points you should probably listen to them. The way I see it, there are 3 main “parts” to be good at Halo 5.

Part one is your shot. Use octagon and other custom games with a friend to work on aiming. Experiment with different sensitivities to get one that’s right for you.

Part two is movement. Practice crouch jumps, slide/thruster combo, and other movement mechanics in custom games until you can execute them reliably.

Part 3 is IQ. Walk around in forge/customs or watch a stream/YT and pay attention to callouts. The names of locations appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. There’s a lot more to IQ, such as learning spawns and positioning but those just take practice, I don’t have any specific tips.

Just practice. Take breaks when you need to. Play with others to get instant tips/feedback.

I would say to find some youtuber tips and tricks videos. They help out a lot. Here’s a few pointers though. I’m not that good at the game but I used to suck at halo in general until i finally just really tried to improve myself to have more fun.

Your aim-

self explanatory. If your accuracy is bad, lower your sensitivity. If you find the reticle suddenly goes from 0 to 100 to fast, lower aim acceleration. Use your strafe (left movement stick) to line up your shots position, and your right stick to make small adjustments to stay on your target. Halo 5 has a generous amount if aim assist and you’ll eventually find that you have to master how much effort you put in is too much at the wrong times.

Your reticle placement as you are walking the map -

you want those crosshairs where you expect someone to be as you are walking the map. If you suddenly get shot and by the time you finally find the enemy with your reticle hes shot you 2 or 3 times…you’ve definitely lost. It’s an absolute waste to engage the fight. back down and go to your team mates.

Map awareness-

where enemies can come from, and where you are in comparison to where team mates are. No sense for you to be on the opposite end of the map if you’ve just died 5 times in a row trying to figure out where to be. Pick a team mate an back them up.

Map IQ - learning where weapons spawn, and the advanced jumps to reach certain areas.

The not so common things that newer players don’t right away realise.

-pressing up on the D pad signals for help to your team mates and pings your location for them to help you.

  • team arena settings mean that you won’t appear on motion sensor when you walk at normal speed or jump. You will show up when you fire a weapon, sprint, thrust, stabilize I believe too. Spartan charge and ground pound are disabled in this mode.

  • you cannot immediately run when under fire.

  • after taking damage, if you sprint BEFORE your shields begin to recharge, you halt the recharge and actually cause a recharge delay gauge to appear above the shields gauge (very thin small gauge) making it take even longer to recharge shields. So rule of thumb…walk away before you run most times. Once the shields begin recharge you can then immediately sprint.

PRO TIP #1 - dont bother playing quick play. If you want more fairer matches play ranked. Quickplay in my experience is EXTREMELY sweaty and I can’t fathom how any player would even want to remain interested in the game after facing teams of ranked players 2 to 3 entire tiers (in my case it goes to even champ tier) higher than you are.

  • master the magnum. If you aren’t good with this gun then you’ll forever struggle. It’s the main utility weapon in halo 5. This is halo 5s BR equivalent of h2 and h3 and h5s dmr equivalent of HR. All halos have a main utility weapon. In h5 it is the magnum.

Check out people on YouTube like proximity for stuff like aiming and whatnot. For map break downs and jumps and just generally seeing how people play the game I think shyway has great content for that.

Sorry if this was too long. I know I’m not the best, but hopefuly some of that helps.

My two tips are stay mobile you have the thruster pack use it and dont focus on using ads seen as if your in a fight you will get hit a lot. Which cancels ads. unless your sniping
