I'm pretty sure the construct is the Didactic

So I’m pretty sure the bird-like construct from the E3 trailer is the Didact.

For or those that don’t know, the Dodact was not killed at the end of Halo 4. Instead, after an additional fight with Chief, he was digitized by another Composer and stored in its memory core. Chief then describes him as not dead, but rather contained.

Now, a being as powerful as the Didact should not be reanimated as a simple Promethean Knight. No, I think he would come back as a much stronger entity.

I believe this would explain why he clutched Cortana’s chip before the impending fight; thinking of how she sacrificed herself to defeat the Didact before.

Thoughts?

Your theory kind of could be right. Possibly. The Didact is immune to the composer, but he could be the pilot of that forerunner ship.

The didact died in the recent Halo comics.

Heres the source.

Chief only believed he was contained he doesnt know for sure.

Now thinking of it, it could make perfect sense but no sense at all. Why would john go toward the Didact in the trailer? Wouldn’t he be looking for cover, and why would the Didact be hiding? The forerunner ship came out of the ground beneath the sand the Didact does not need to hide. But maybe the Didact went beneath the sand and in the ship because some how he was able to repair himself? Maybe under the sand there is something Cryptum like but would heal him faster. I’m sure my 2nd theory is 99% not going to happen though.

marked as spoiler

The Didacts essence is back for revenge. Cool theory, but I don’t see why MC would just walk up to it in the trailer.

The forerunner construct is what I believe to be Mendicant Bias: the forerunner A.I that betrayed the forerunners during the forerunner/flood war. It was put in containment on the Ark at the end of the war and Chief could have activated it to help revive Cortana.

The Didact did not die in Escalation, he was composed.

It may be what everyone on youtube says but I believe it could be Mendicant Bias. It would be nice to have the Didact return but I would like to see Bias make an appearance as well as the return of the flood on top of the Arbiter

Seems as though it may be a variation of a Guardian Sentinel.

Ah no, if anything the bird thing is controlled by mendicant bias.

That wouldn’t make sense when that thing clearly is attempting to destroy that city in the poster and seems quite hostile to Chief.

It more than likely is the Didact. Didact being a machine out to destroy mankind would serve a perfect counterpoint to Chief who is trying to find his humanity. The Didact will serve as a perfect example of a great soldier who spent so much time just trying to be a guardian of his race that he literally became a machine. This is the extreme of what Cortana was telling Chief at the end of Halo 4.

I see Chief realizing that he doesn’t need to be a machine to fight and that perhaps he doesn’t need to just be a soldier.

If it is just the Didact all over again then that is a bit of a disappointment. I want Mendicant Bias gosh darn it!

I never thought of it that way, but I mean honestly I can totally see the symbolism as well as just how it would work with how 343 is trying to show MC as more than just this super-solider. By comparing him to the Didact, who is willing to completely cast aside is humanity “or forerunnerity?” in order to achieve what he perceives as his duty as a solider/guardian of his race is the perfect counterpart. Since where as MC would seemingly have to do the opposite, he needs to accept his humanity in order to protect his race. If the construct does indeed end up being the Didact, I think you are definitely onto something in regards to why that would be the story choice. However we have no idea what it actually is but your idea is a viable theory.

EDIT: Personally I hope the construct isn’t the Didact and is something else, but do want him to appear in the story/game. I really think he was an interesting character and to have him die (if he is dead) “off-screen” would be kind of disappointing since we only got to see him in one entry in the series.

Awesome theory and I really appreciate the symbolism. I think it is more likely to be the Ur-Didact’s essence commandeering a Guardian sentinel since a hologram is visible of it on Sanghelios, and the new concept art shows it in the background of a damaged city. Mendicant Bias is still confined to the Lesser Ark. But I’m still hoping the Ark theory remains true and Mendicant Bias plays a role in Halo 5.
