"I'm not doing this for Mankind"...

So, at the end of the Halo 4 Campaign, the Didact asks Cortana “Why would you do this for Mankind” (paraphrased) and Cortana responds by saying “I’m not doing this for Mankind…”.

What do you think that Cortana meant by this?

I guess the two most likely options are that she was doing it as a personal vengeance against the Forerunner or simply that she was doing it for Chief (but then again he is a human.

She was doing it for Chief (and by man kind the Didact and Cortana meant as a whole, but saved Chief as an individual)

That sentence reveals that all she ever did was for John. She loved him. An artificial intelligence does not usually feel, but Cortana, however, is an exception. Out of all of the AI’s, you could say that she’s the most human.

That line destroyed me because I knew what was going to happen.

Well in a way she shares the same feelings as Halsey, since she was made from a clone of Halsey’s brain :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s still not the same. They share the same memories, but Halsey is like a mother to John. Cortana, however, has developed a different kind of love for him.

I kind look like a sister love to me but you might be onto something.

Nah, more than that. It’s been an underlying theme in Halo for a while now that Cortana’s relationship with the Chief goes far beyond just being part of a team. For her at least.

I think Chief saw her as a best friend while Cortana fell in love with him which is unheard of for an AI.
