Start from 4, 5, Infinite and them go to CE, 2, 3, ODST and Reach. This way you won’t be disappointed about the quality of the games.
Start with Halo:CE and go release order. The Halo Wars games prolly worth checking out since some characters between 3 & 4 are introduced in those games.
you cut off the part where I said “if you aren’t into those genres” cause I know I’m not going to sit thru a type of game I don’t like to play just to see the story. Personally I played halo wars 1 & 2 because I don’t mind RTS, but I skipped the arcade style games cause I don’t like that type of game.
If OP or any new to halo player doesn’t like RTS, they could just skip them and watch the cutscenes on youtube or something.
reach, 2, 1, 2 again if u like, 3
4 5 6
and then 4 and 5 again.
but grind the multiplayer locally when ur at the game ur campaigning,
then play MCC until ur good enough for RANKED modern gameplay in Infinite.
infact scratch that.
dont complete 2 the first time.
and then dont complete 1.
and then dont complete 3.
and then play 1-3
before picking up 4.
i’d say release order. but if u cant grind COMBAT EVOLVED multiplayer local, because MCC makes it obscolete…
juggle.
I think you’ll like 4 the most for pvp. so enjoying that experience would be great if you run the campaigns on heroic.
but u should run halo 2 on legendary.
Depends on if you’re just trying to beat the games or are actually a canonical lore kind of guy? I say this due to the number of materials outside the game that may or may not be canon. Examples include books, videos, games, comics and a slew of trailers and teasers. The reason I state this is due to the gaps story wise that have come with the changing for writers, and companies over the years. If you’re going only by the First-person shooters and are new to the series altogether and don’t like RTS games, the order should be
REACH, H1A, H2A, ODST, H3, H4, H5, AND THEN INFINITE.
If, however, you want to play, read and watch halo religiously in canon order there is a list on the wiki fandom page. Granted it has lore and canon conflicts with each other. (IE The books vs Halo Reach and other ext. You’ll know you’re in the right spot when you see “Timeline of canonical fiction”
This includes the games Halo wars 1-2 and Spartan assault/ strike and fire team raven…
Good luck…
If you want to follow the story from start to finish. Halo Reach, Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5 and then Infinite. If in order of release, just take Halo 3 Odst and Halo Reach in that order and put them between Halo 3 and 4. If you’re interested, no matter how you play the games, play Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2 after Halo 5.
The definitive Halo Game for me is Halo 3.
I recommend starting with halo CE, and playing in the order of release. As cool as Reach is, I think halo CE has the best introduction to the series universe (story/lore & gameplay). You’ll also be able to see how the gameplay innovated over the series as well by letting halo CE establish your baseline expectations of halo as a whole.
Fair enough. I wouldn’t sleep on Spartan Ops either, if we’re talking cutscenes.
4 and 4: Spartan Ops was really special. Been playing since CE and 4 is among one the best memories and experiences.
Kinda dumb to be a Halo “fan” and ignore other games which are great just cause it’s made by different companies. Halo Wars was also very enjoyable with a great set of characters. It’s childish and karen to do so and respect is lost when reading those types of post and opinions.
No Halo is trash. Some are better than others but overal Halo is a rare series where all of them are consistently enjoyable.
Welcome to the Halo universe! Here is the list in story order, would also recommend Halo MCC which has the games you need.
Halo Wars
Halo Reach
Halo CE
Halo 2
Halo 3 ODST [optional]
Halo 3
Halo 4
Halo 5
Halo wars 2
Halo Infinite
Whatever you do DO NOT start with the 343 games. I generally enjoyed them all, with one exception which I choose not to name (I’ll only say that it has G in it’s name). Story wise, they are NOT new player friendly, unlike the originals where you could pick up any three of the original trilogy and jump in without a hitch. CE or 2 are probably the best on-boarding point, though 3 is probably the best of the lot.
Good luck by the way! Love to see new people coming on!
