When i activate a boost sometimes they say, for example “finish a arena game to claim your bonus”. Do i have to do anything to “claim” it after the game or is it just given to me automatically?
Automatic. Just apply the boost and play the match. 
Its given to you automatically if all requirements are meant. In this case, finish an arena game to get the reward.
It’s just added to your given XP or RP, all you have to actually do is apply the boost before the match and it does the rest

Nope, you will keep it if you lose.

Boost’s with a requirement are only lost if you fulfill it. That applies to Mission: Victories as well as Gambit boosts.

Thank goodness iv’e had this ultra rare mission victory boost for so long and iv’e been so afraid to use it because i thought if i used it and lost it would be gone forever.

Yah, just look at your previous game, click to see ur stats, and use the right bumper to see a menu. It should say how much xp/rp u got.
