Can someone help me with this… I keep picturing a forerunner in a turtle shell. Is this at all accurate? Is Catalog all machine? All Forerunner? Half and Half?
Also do all Catalog look the same? I know the iso didact was able to tell the one used to be a warrior servant.
Someone paint me a picture please!
For some reason, I imagined this, but instead of a humanoid body, the head was attached to a few legs, like a spider.
I kind of got the idea that the Forerunners body was entirely held within some sort of shell or something, but other than that I have no idea.
Closest I got is imagining a rectangle with a bunch of limbs coming out everywhere, but really Silentium didn’t really describe them much unfortunately.

This is sort of what I was thinking. Some sort of elongated shell with the Forerunner implanted inside (you wouldn’t be able to see the Forerunner) with 3 robotic legs and 2 arms. He probably hovers above the ground rather than walking.
I imagine it to be like a sarcophagus (google it and see what i mean)
I imagined something similar to Eve from Wall-E except with no head, no arms and some legs and sensors.

Like that thing in the halo 3 terminals?

Yeah, me too.

Do you have a picture of it I can see? I’m not sure what you mean (though to be honest I’ve never even seen the Halo 3 Terminals properly).
Viper probe droid from Star Wars. Add organic flesh and a cylindrical body underneath. That’s pretty well what I was seeing for no reasons that I can’t understand.

HAHAHA
Thats exactly what I imagined when I read the book lol
I have a theory that Catalog are what Forerunners call Huragok (Convenant name) / Engineers (Human name).
http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Huragok
“The Engineers are actually not a natural, biological species at all, but rather an artificial life form created by the Forerunners. While they possess no true tissues or organs, their nano-mechanical surrogates so closely mimic their biological analogs that they seem almost indistinguishable to observers.”
The descriptions of Catalog are VERY close to what we know of the Huragok. Both are largely still a mystery.
I thought the Art of Halo 4 had concept art for a multi-armed Forerunner? I remember someone posted it a while ago and asked what rate it could possibly belong to. Maybe it was concept art for Catalog?

The huragok were already mentioned in cryptum as simple builder tools, certainly not catalog.
It was mentioned that they had 5 or so limbs (though half the time they were described, it was the damaged one in the burn so…maybe more than 5 limbs). Given how wobbly the one in the burn was, I’d wager they walked rather than floated.
I pictured a silver standing cockroach with three legs.
I imagined a cocoon thing with many tentacle arm things that can come out.

That is exactly what came to my mind while reading.
I imagined glyph from mass effect or ED-E from fallout
