Almost a year after release and a dozen fixes later, this forum is still plagued with people with the exact same complaints about the DMR, jetpack, and blah blah blah.
From the very start I haven’t seen any of these as a problem. The DMR is likely the most used weapon, so I pretty much expect most people to be using it, so it’s no surprise when I’m killed by it. Jetpack hardly seems useful anymore, since it just makes your a easy target. Besides, because Halo’s maps are all uneven, and with man cannons, players flying through the air is hardly a game breaker.
I’ve seen lots of hate against automatic weapons, such as the Suppressor. The Suppressor is my favorite automatic weapon and I always do well with it. People have been saying it’s really weak, but if that’s so, then don’t use it and don’t worry about other people using it if you think it’s weak.
I just don’t really see how people can harbor so much hate against the little things after such a long time. I thought the complaints in the beginning were there because it was a new game and people weren’t used to some of the new features. But after a year and seeing the exact same things, shouldn’t people have adapted their playstyles by now?
Well I’ve cleared campaign on Legendary. Finished all the chapters of Spartan Ops and am at 60% commendations with over 3k wargames. So yea I’m enjoying myself now I’m at the later stages of completing this game. Still have a few goals to achieve yet though before I move on.
You think the mass of complaints were over some weapon and AA balancing? Have you even read the threads? Let me give you a rundown…
Game utilized Killstreaks and perks way too much.
Not enough classic Halo playlists.
A lot of weapons serve the same purpose.
Moved away from an Arena-style multiplayer.
Vehicles are not balanced well.
No descoping.
Flood gametype was massacred (Zombies should never have shields).
Maps are sub-par compared to other Halo games, typically too big (Yeah, they look nice, but they don’t play all that well. Time to stop relying on Certain Affinity.)
No Firefight.
Spartan Ops is extremely repetitive.
Experiment of making multiplayer and co-op multiplayer mode canon failed.
Story was not in depth enough and too predictable.
Prometheans are too predictable after the first two levels.
New characters are dull or poorly developed and designed (Palmer, Halo 4’s Lasky. Didact).
No Hornet or Falcon in the game.
Complete lack of custom games options (read this thread for more info).
So, that is a little bit more than some weapon and AA balancing, see?
I used the Jetpack for perhaps a few hours, before abandoning it in favor of the Thruster Pack and Auto Sentry. Really, I can’t use it at all. Either I get sniped out of the air before the thing overheats, or I end up overheating and dropping to the ground because I can’t make it from the ground floor on Complex to where the sniper spawns on our base’s roof.
For me personally, it’s at best good for getting a few extra feet in a jump - vertically or horizontally - and at worst an easy way to give the opposing team free kills.
I rarely see anyone in matchmaking use it, and when they do they’re usually dead before they hit the ground. There are exceptions of course, but typically the Jetpack just isn’t all too powerful or “game breaking”. Opinions and experiences will vary here, but I just haven’t seen the evils of the jetpack yet.
As for the having fun, you bet I am ^^
Some more maps in playlists, an update to Legendary Slayer (Can we say, Legendary Objective and Legendary FFA? ) and perhaps Rocket Race or Railgun Race - and I’ll be as happy as a clam ^^
> New characters are dull or poorly developed and designed (Palmer, Halo 4’s Lasky. Didact).
I can’t speak for Palmer or Lasky (I do like the guy though), but the Didact was referenced before in Terminals in prior games (I believe Guilty Spark mentioned him and his Prometheans in CE’s terminal videos), and his backstory and the like were fleshed out in Cryptum. I’m not sure about Primordium however, but I’d assume so since it took place in the Forerunner era as well.
People would enjoy the game if they learn how to adapt to different play styles over time.
A while ago I was playing Lockdown in the Dominion playlist, and at first I absolutely hated the playlist. However, since I have more experience with the playlist by playing it over time, I enjoy it way better now. In addition, I now feel rewarded that I adapted new strategies to cope with enemy players in that playlist.
My point is, Halo 4 may feel a bit different than the past Halo games, but if you give it time, you will probably find that one Halo element that you have enjoyed throughout all the games.
I have considerably less fun in Halo 4 than I did in past games, part to do with loadouts, perks, loadout stickies ruining vehicle play and poor map design.
Another big issue is imbalanced weapon spawns and personal ordnance.
I have fun. I just got done playing a game of regicide. I won with my lightrifle. There were annoying moments but still had fun.
Mostly with spawning, stickies, shield regeneration wait speed. First one is other halo games too.

I feel the same way. I still like it and play it but its not comparable to the fun I had playing halo ce-3. I only play it when I don’t have something else to do or any other game I want to play. But with Payday 2 coming out today and GTA V coming out this year I cant see myself playing much more of Halo 4 honestly. Its a pretty good game and I’m glad I bought it and played it though.
I have gotten to a point in my gaming “career” that I don’t care about specifics like that cough Call of Duty whores cough. If I have fun playing it then I am going to have fun, end of story. I agree entirely though, if you have a big problem with the weapons, features, or just the overall game then don’t play the game.
that 343 refuses to address is primarily what drove me away and sucked the life out of the game. It’s ZERO fun when 70% of your war games are lagged by 0.5+ seconds. 5% of my Halo Reach games are lagged with the same connection - it’s not me - it’s not my internet - it’s H4.
It’s doubtful I will buy XBox One and Halo 5 as I do not believe 343 listens to us and has left me with a broken game - the first totally broken Halo game (I have them all too folks) I have owned since buying Halo on the Mac.
If your having fun, good for you - but for me the game is unplayable.
Oh i’ve adapted, better at this halo than any other.
That said, it’s frustrating more than anything and there are many mechanics that I despise (in all shooter genre games, not just halo 4).
You would think I would just leave, but where to go? Pretty much every other shooter out there has mechanics just as bad if not worse than halo 4.
And I would go back to halo 3, but my god, that’s the only shooter I have that lags more than halo 4 anymore (didn’t experience hardly anything in first 4 months, now happens pretty much 50% of games, like good’ole h3, suspicious to me).
I rarely ever found a reason to come back to halo 4 sometimes…
It just needs some fresh material, championship is pretty cool yeah, but also something for those who don’t wannna buy DLC…
As much as I love halo, I always seem to have Battlefield 3 marathons, and then pop in Halo 4 if I have time, Its just not that exiting right now…
And don’t tell me that global championship is new, If I wanted to get my -Yoink- kicked on the same maps and same “MLG” modes I would go play street fighter…
