I love the AR/Magnum starts for Halo 5. Its one of the few things I liked about Reach.
Its not like the only AR starts where you can’t defend yourself off spawn from BRs, because you have a powerful pistol, but at the same time its not BR starts, where everyone has that ranged power off spawn and there is no fighting for the precision weapons.
Don’t misunderstand I don’t think there is anything wrong with BR starts, but AR/Magnum starts are really fun for me as well. I see no reason why both types can’t exist in the slayer gametype rotation.
add an option in game to spawn with a BR DMR or AR when you spawn (not talking loadouts) just weapons. unless its slayer pro than its only BRs. so non pro slayer you have choice everyone is happy.

halo5 has the most balanced starting weapons the series has ever known. Hopefully AR/pistol is the default in the final game, with BR starts being occassional.
the AR/pistol starts force you and your team to utilize the weapons on map to gain an advantage. That’s Classic Halo. With BR starts everyone just sticks with the BR all match long, since it’s so serviceable at all ranges… Which is fun, but a limiting experience.

Well, there are ranged weapons on the map for you to fight over to control. Having all BR starts eleminates that. Your starting weapon is SUPPOSED to be serviceable at close and mid range, but not the best at either. The AR fits that description perfectly. That way upon spawning, you have a fighting chance against any opponent, but those who have fought their way to key weapons and locations have a benefit.
simply because you always swap out your AR doesn’t mean it should be nixxed or optional. In classic halo you are SUPPOSED to we dropping/picking up weapoms situationally.

in halo 1 i stick to the trusty pistol(for close and med range im good with the 3 shot kills). the only other guns i pick up are the sniper or shotgun or rockets. pistol=BR of halo 1
halo 2=BR +shotgun/sniper/rockets
halo 3= same
halo 4=dmr and BR loadouts +same

People who plan to spray and melee all game will be killed by people who control the map, pick up better guns and use better tactics. That’s a self correcting issue.
constant death will be their deterrent , especially since the other starting weapon, the pistol, is awesome at holding off AR users.
With MLG, BR starts became the norm because in halo2 and 3, the pistols were useless at mid range. Like you said, the BR had taken the pistols place as a midrange utility weapon.
Now that the pistol is well balanced for mid range use, there is no need for BR starts. The BR can go back to being an earned weapon on map, where it belongs.

You can pick up BR after 5 seconds on Empire, and BR/DMR on Truth. Please forget BR3 and DMReach.

na people fight for weapons in BR starts. not crap weapons like plasma rifle or smg. the only good pickups are shotgun,sniper,rockets. tell me what takes more skill a automatic weapon that you can spray or a BR that can kill in 4 bursts if you are accurate. the pistol does not have the same killtime as the BR. the AR is so noob friendly my cod friend did well with it… he never plays halo. sorry stop beleiving the world is flat… the plasma rifle is not worth fighting over… nor the needler. doesnt matter what gametype i play im hunting power weapons nothing else. rest is trash.

The in H5, the pistol kill time is just shy of the BR, as it should be.
If you COD friend did ‘well’ with the AR, he was probably playing against other noobs. A skilled player with the pistol will own the AR every time… The AR is decent at close and mid range, but is worse than the SMG at close range, and worse than the pistol at mid. Those that rely on the AR will have trouble ranking up when the full game hits… They’ll have to learn how to use precision weapons effectively… As it should be
as far a the other weapons sucking, the solution isn’t to give everyone the best weapon, it’s too make the weapons not suck.

Nope AR starts were bad in the beginning. They sucked in the end of every halos life. They cause no skill melee feats over smart who has better accuracy. The pistol has a pathetically small mag. Add 10 extra rounds in the mag and up the damage by 30% than I’ll not quit out of smg or at starts.

I am extremely competitive, and I love me some BR action. But everyone here arguing for AR starts is right. Every weapon now serves a purpose, which is good. BR starts every once in a while? Sure, why not? It is a different style of gameplay, but for what H5 is looking to do for halo, it shouldn’t be the absolute starting loadout.
So you are looking for the H1 pistol? You are quite literally asking for nearly 20 bullets a mag, and with one mag of 8 you can kill a guy? You up it 30% and you can kill with five bullets. You are asking for 4 kills a mag. You are the kind of person that it ruining balance in halo. Think about it this way, if they up it to 20 bullets, with 130% damage and can kill in five shots at a faster rate than both the BR and the DMR, then you are asking for a power weapon start (I.e. Halo CE pistol.)
