I'm getting worse

I am a long time Halo fan. Have been a huge dedicated fan since 2001. I have been decent never great, but recently I’m not sure if it’s old age. I have literally gotten worse at Halo 5, the last couple of days I cannot seem to go positive with my K/D. At what age does competitive gaming begin to deteriorate? I am only a Silver but I am getting rekt every freaking game.

Im not sure about the age, but maybe you just need a break. Try to play other games or just relax for 5 days/One week. That should work

I hear you OP. I’m 35 and can’t break out of Silver/low Gold, and I hate to just blame it on everyone else using youthful-reflexes-hack, but, I am doing absolutely everything that the experts recommend (I’ve watched just about every LukeTheNotable video on YouTube) and I’m still just godawful. I don’t claim to be a master of map/power weapon control but I do feel like I know at least as much about strategy as people I know who are ranked way higher than I am, the problem is I just don’t have the reflexes and the stick skills to maneuver in space well enough to outgun people in 1v1’s before they can kill me first. I feel like I die within .5 seconds of seeing an enemy.

(Inb4 the guy who’s 40 or 50 and is Onyx. The fact that there’s an exception doesn’t disprove the entire rule.)

Don’t sweat it, it’s just a game. I’ll have to console myself by thinking about my great home, my great wife, my great job, and my great car.

(By the way, in case you didn’t know, they actually have changed the matchmaking algorithms since the game came out. It actually is harder to place higher than it used to be, it’s not just you. Current Golds are probably the equivalent of Platinums when the game first came out.)

Halo 5 has gotten harder for a couple of reasons. First is server quality. Not going to rant too much about that but bad servers can make even the best players perform horribly. Ever go 12-5 one match and follow it up with 5-12? Servers play a role in that. Second factor is that as the game ages, the average person remaining is a bit more hardcore, so the game gets more “sweaty”.

Taking a break always helps.

Also, you are platinum 6 in team arena, and you have been Onyx before. You are still better than most players. This could be a confidence issue, when I start thinking that my shot is bad, I start to play poorly. I say take a short break and when you come back, play some Octagon or casual for a little bit and then hop into ranked

Great advice, especially these 2 parts ^^^

I started playing Halo when I was 36. I’m now so old the only way to get an accurate number is to use carbon dating. Not only have I not got better with age, I haven’t even really got any smarter, which I thought would be the counter-balance to slowing reflexes. Sorry for the bad news. I always thought of firefight as the last refuge for the fan who can’t handle multiplayer anymore, but even H5’s take on firefight is genuinely player vs. player, though they take pains to get you to believe otherwise. Just enjoy the story (it’s better than people say it is) and learn to forge. And pray for a return of solo PvE gameplay. I know I do.

What settings/sensitivity are you playing on? How much do you play? How often do you play with players who are noticeably better than you? Do you octagon?

These are all questions that need to be answered. If you’re silver level then you need to worry a little less about strategy and focus more on slaying for now. Believe it or not, you don’t really need lightning reflexes to improve from where you’re at, you just need practice. Feel free to message me sometime here or on xbox live if you want pointers sometime.

smurfs won’t help either the whole ranking idea is stupid when the highest ranked players will smurf the lower levels keeping them down struggling to get to grips with the game.

Wait, what? I’m looking at your Arena ranks right now, and you are currently in Platinum 5 for Slayer. In addition to that, your lowest Arena rank was a Gold 3 in Team Arena during the summer. Compared to the Onyx and Diamond rank you’ve managed in the past, sure, you might not be doing as good as you want, but you aren’t doing bad either.

Well look what just showed up in my sub box…

I think I will, I just know it’s getting ridiculous. I have been expecting people to message me telling me I’m garbage or a bk. So far only one person has done that. Not too bad. I think I’ll got play State of Decay for about a week or Halo 5 only for an hour or two a day.

I’m going to check out the YouTube that you’re talking about for tips thanks, yeah I hear about having a good car and family. I just never sucked at a game so bad before.

Octagon is a pistol snipe start and instant spawns. It helps your shot and strafe.

Octagon maps are 8 sided maps that players practice their strafe and aim in. It’s optimal for two people and ideally you want someone better than you to go against. It WILL help your aim. If you look at my bookmarks I recommend RTSN:octagon. Also, check the octagon game mode in my files.

Aw. That sounds rough, man. I’m sure you’re smarter than you were before. Just maybe not at Halo. As a (relatively) young person who has never been super good, I’ve always tried to play smarter not harder, and I think anyone can learn how to with a bit of course adjustment.

Also, sweet avatar. Librarian used to be my jam. I still don’t have it in Halo 5. You got style.

But I am gonna have to disagree on the story. The campaign plays well enough, but no, man. Just no. People oughta just go get the Master Chief Collection and play all those campaigns. Better stories, and more of them.

A lot of the time I feel I’ve gotten worse compared to the 1st 6 months of when the game came out. I think for me it’s cause of Xbox one controllers they don’t last very long sticks brake in a matter of weeks and never last more than a few months and wires are contact lay breaking. Compared to the 360 controllers I had most for about a year with no issues. My oldest 360 controller works better than my Xbone controller.

I used to be so good at WZ assault I got a few perfection in it and often ended with a kd of 4-10 at my peak but now I can’t get more than a 2kd.

It could also be as the population keeps shrinking only the tougher opponents are left cause there is less little fish.

Regrettably, reflexes start declining at 19 and steadily get worse.

Im only 21 and I cant just pick up a shooter and stomp anymore, I gotta take awhile to warm up
