I'm debating the H4 console. Opinions?

Currently, I have the old 30gb Halo 3 LE green console, the 2 Halo 3 master chief / covenant controllers, 1 green controller that came with the LE console, and the green special edition ODST controller. I also have the wired green headset, and the wireless green headset. I have the H3 legendary edition game (with helmet), Halo Reach legendary edition (with statue), and a bunch of other old headsets, cables, and games. But, I highly doubt they would let me trade in the H3 helmet and Reach statue though…

My predicament to you is, for a limited time through this week - gamestop has double credits on trading in an old system. I have pretty much NO extra HD space on my xbox, (I think I might have like 120mb free) and I know H4 requires 8gb for multiplayer, etc. I asked the manager at gamestop how much credit I could get for my console and he said it would be like $45, but $90 with the double credits. Do you think this is worth it, trading in all my stuff for the H4 console? I really like the new console, and love the fact that it has 320gb, but on the flip side, I don’t wanna just feel like I’m “giving” away all of my stuff to gamestop for practically nothing. I don’t know how much credit I could really get though, hopefully at least $200 worth, but that may be wishful thinking. I also have the LE Halo 4 game preordered, but since the LE version is apparently becoming less “limited,” and the fact that you get a copy of H4 WITH the console, this may be a chance to cancel my LE preorder and just go for the new console. Seems like a better deal, but what do you guys think? My console has also red-ringed on me before - back in December of 2009.

Also, if the new xbox 720 console comes out next year, would it be better to wait? But on the other hand, I’m a big-time Halo fan.

I just wanna know if trading all of my gear in would really be worth it - I don’t wanna get shafted by gamestop, ya know…

Opinions?

I felt it was time to trade in my old 360 for a newer one and I did because I think the Halo 4 xbox looks nice and I really dont like buying a console when it first comes out so I can wait on the xbox 720 or whatever the hell it is. If I was you I’d trade the system in but keep those Macfarlane controllers at the very lest

I plan on getting the console. For one thing, the 720 won’t be out for another year or two, and even then I don’t plan on picking it up until the next Halo game. The main reason I own an xbox is for Halo.

What’s the point? It doesn’t do anything new that your current one doesn’t.

> Nextbox is around the corner so there’s no real point. Besides, the H4 console is really aimed at newcomers.

Not really. If you need to upgrade or want a newer system like me (rocking the old school 20gb xbox) then the Halo 4 console is a good choice. It has a massive harddrive and a lot of collectors value for Halo fans. The next xbox has no confirmed dates and even if it did it doesn’t mean that the Halo 4 console is not worth buying, the next xbox may not be out for a year or two, maybe even 3. Meanwhile you will have years of use out of the Halo 4 console. Why would people want to buy the next xbox on launch anway? Look at past launches for consoles, it really is a bad idea to just jump on a console on its Launch. Personally I’m going to wait at least a year or two into the next xbox’s cycle so I will be able to see how it is doing, what games are scheduled to release and when Halo 5 will be coming out (probably a year or two into the next consoles cycle). Either way people purchasing the Halo 4 console will get easily 2-4 years out of it for proper gaming, maybe even more. The ONLY way I would be convinced to buy the next xbox on launch would be if it came with some pretty awesome launch titles like Halo 5 (although like I said Halo 5 is not likely to be a launch title).

TLDR = Halo 4 Console has a lot of years and use in it, worth buying if you need to upgrade or want a newer model

> Seems to me like you will waste money on whatever happy “Legendary” edition toys Microsoft tricks you into buying.

> How about you show some -Yoinking!- restraint and invest your money in something of value instead of sending it to some Chinese sweatshop making Masterchief Barbie dolls.

NO, you seem to forget that Halo 3 came out over 5 years ago, and I’ve acquired these items along the way between now and then. Not once did I say that I went out and “blew” all of my money on these things at one time. Just for the record, half of these were gifts anyways. But since you want to “troll,” listen up - this is America jack… home of the free, which means I am FREE to buy whatever the hell I wanna buy. I make a good living for myself, put food on the table, support my family, and have more than enough extra left over to furnish my Halo dedication.

So don’t come on here with little to no respect for us die-hard Halo fans and try to tell us how to live and what to buy. To each his own…

But I will just disregard your statements, report you as spam, and proceed at valuing “real” fans opinions.

> What’s the point? It doesn’t do anything new that your current one doesn’t.

The new slim version consoles run quieter, cooler, and have a LOT more hard drive space…

My recommendation to you, if you have the money to get it, then go ahead. If you don’t, i would rather get the LE. Here is why, when you get the Limited Console, all you get is the console, controller, headset, content (Fotus) and the standard edition to halo 4. Personally, i was debating into doing the same thing, but instead, i went with the LE, because i will be receiving more content. Mostly when i get a new game, i try to get the limited one, b/c it tends to contain content that standard games would not get later in time. Go for the LE. Its better, but im not here to force you. its your choice.

If you were to say the LE game… HELL NO, but the LE console, HELL YEAH!

OP, It seems like you’ve partially made up your mind. You said that you don’t wanna feel like you’re giving your stuff away. I am picking one up, but If you don’t really see the need to get it then don’t.

> Nextbox is around the corner so there’s no real point. Besides, the H4 console is really aimed at newcomers.

How so? Its for hardcore fans that don’t cry about every penny they spend. (I’m referencing everybody crying about LE) suck it if if u want it buy it if you don’t…you get where im going with this

I think it’s pretty hideous myself, but if you need an upgrade it’s not a bad deal at all.

The only reason bro_

I’m still up on the fence about it. Just last night my xbox started freezing up on me again. Maybe its just coincidence, or maybe its a sign. The 2 biggest reasons I’m really considering it more now is - it has a HUGE 320gb hard drive, and now the recent $50 price drop down to $350 this week. I “suppose” I could buy a bigger hard drive, or 1 of these new usb flash drives, but I just don’t know.

> I think it’s pretty hideous myself, but if you need an upgrade it’s not a bad deal at all.

Yeah especially with the $50 price drop. I remember when I got my H3 console. $399 for a 30gb xbox 360, 1 controller, and 1 headset. I don’t think it came with a copy of the game either.

H4 console has 320gb hard drive, 2 controllers, 1 headset, AND a copy of the game. Seems like a pretty dang good deal to me.

I’ll be honest, I too didn’t really care for the looks of the H4 console when I first saw the microsoft pictures, but now that I’ve seen “actual” pictures of the real console and a recent unboxing video of it on youtube, its looks are growing on me pretty quickly.

I have the H4 LE edition of the game preordered, but if I end up getting the console bundle, I figure I will have to pick 1 or the other…

Seems to me like you already justified the purchase to yourself to get your head around any buyers remorse you may experience. That said, at a glace it is not hard to tell that this a bad move from a purely financial. However if you were to take into account all options and opportunity costs you fail to account for it you will see it goes from bad to worse and you are really paying more than you think.

I won’t go into more detail, because ultimately the decision is yours. In other words you must decide whether you will get enough utility out of this purchase to cover the net cost (price + opportunity costs). I’d just caution you against letting a little underlying OCD and good marketing get the the best of you.

Seriously, did you make a new account just to post this? Purely financial? Did I ever say money was limited for me? NO.

Explain to me how the hell it is going to cost me “more” than $350 if I’m trading this stuff in for store credit towards the console bundle???

WHY would I have buyers remorse for upgrading to a NEW console???

OCD and good marketing??? WTF are you smoking dude?

Boy, when they come out of the woodwork, they sure do come running!!! Geez…

Well I do all my video game shopping at best buy. They have that green halo Xbox marked at 53.63. I believe they had a 100% trade in bonus going on right now for any trade in.

So that’s about 106 bucks. It’s only given to you in a gift card and you can’t ask for cash. If I’m not mistaken they still have LE halo 4 consoles available. I was able to reserve mine last week. Also if your a Gamer zone unlocked reward zone member, if you reserve and pick up they game within 7 days they’ll give you a 20 dollar reward zone certificate to use on anything in the store. Plus you also get reward zone points which you can use to get more reward zone certificates.

I hope this helped dude.

Wow dude relax. This is my main account, I just don’t post often and a part of my posts were lost when I changed my gamertag name.

Anyway the true Cost is equal to $350 x tax rate + loss on sale of your old console (i.e. Fair Market Value - Trade in Price of $90)+ Opportunity Cost (i.e. if you deleted some things off your memory, or used a USB stick your opportunity cost at the very least is the money you would have made had it been earning interest in the bank, or if you invested it in stock, the money that could have been made from that.)

Also consideration is the fact that if you are not making use of the 250gb you are spending too much because that is surplus that has zero value to you yet you still are paying for it. One way to avoid an is to purchase the 250gb hdd ($60) + and Halo 4 separately. Assuming your Halo 3 Console, is worth $110 you would save roughly $250.
