I'm Convinced, 343 is Incompetent

Based on my experience, this latest patch was a huge step back. All I want to do is get into a party with my friends and play MM as a team. Over a month after this game’s release, this still is not possible.

Going in as a party of four, my team was split up to 3v3 for four straight games. Why?? How can 343 not get this right? Halo has had functioning party systems for a decade now, but somehow for MCC this is a pipe dream. Hell, I can’t even hear everyone in my party.

This is so basic. The behavior, controls, and validations around matchmaking are well-established by now. If Honda created cars the same way that 343 creates games, they’d deliver the 2015 Accord with turn signals that don’t work, 3 wheels when four are expected, missing back seats, and a gear shift that doesn’t change gears.

I’m convinced that 343 is incompetent. This is the most broken game I’ve ever had the displeasure of playing, and what angers me more is that I bought an Xbox One solely to play it. The types of issues we’re experiencing are absolutely indicative of incompetence, and with each patch that’s released, I’m more and more confident that they have no idea how to fix them nor will they ever.

Here’s what I see happening and why I’m so disappointed.

  • The patches will continue but MCC will never achieve a fully functional state- 343 will leave just enough resources dedicated to fixing the game that they can claim they’re committed to a fix, but as time goes on, 343 will sweep this under the rug and focus on future revenue-generating projects.- Gamers will move on. I have hardcore Halo fans that I’ve gamed with for years who’ve quit MCC. I can only imagine what the MCC population looks like. A lot of these people are moving on. Whatever Halo population could have been in place, 343 has destroyed it.So, thanks 343. Thanks for destroying Halo. Thanks for taking our money and delivering a PoS game. Thanks for raising our hopes with each patch only to deliver disappointment. I’m still waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out and tell us all that we’ve been punked.

I need a break after last nights disappointment, at least a couple days
after all this time and its like we are back at square one.
so glad I too pissed away money on a xbone for this crap.

This studio and Microsoft need to be held accountable for this complete failure and fraud of a game. Halo 5 should be absolutely FREE for anyone who purchased the Master Chief Collection

With the tiny, little difference being a car is several thousand dollars and can kill you if something is wrong whereas the MCC is $60 and…well that’s about it. No problem complaining, but that analogy is just terrible.

Took you this long to realize it? I have been totally turned off the franchise now. I will not purchase Halo 5, but as GoldenBronco said it should be FREE for anyone that purchased HMCC along with any season pass and/or dlc. I’ve pretty much given up on gaming now… I’ll play all the games I still own but I don’t plan on buying any more games for console, except maybe the new Mortal Kombat… but with how releases go these days I’m sure it’ll be a broken mess at release.

I hope that the three ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future visit the businessmen running the console gaming industry in the coming weeks and they realize that MONEY is not all life is about. Ugh.

Oh, so a product should only be of good quality if it’s “expensive”. Makes sense.

dont take it so literal “the one”
if you actually understood the analogy it would make perfect sense

truth is a lot of people bought the xbox one for mcc, and astros and mcc, thats what around 700-800 bucks

i guess none of us should say anything, now im stuck with a game that doesnt work, microsofts xbl which doesnt really work, ie voice chat, ie friends list, and i probably cant return this pos xbone now because its been over a month while i waited for this steaming pile to hopefully get fixed.

No, what he is saying is that its a matter of degree.

Look, the fact is there are ONLY 2 types of problems that you will EVER come across in your ENTIRE life.
There are End of the World level problems, and NOT end of the world level problems.

A video game that isn’t working as expected is wicked far from an ‘end of the world’ level problem, so people need to stop acting like this is a life altering. Its not, and if it really is for you then you have some other issues that you need to work through that are completely separate from the game.

Personally, the game is working pretty well for me. The occasional crash and disconnect i get is a little more than other games, even ones on dedis like titanfall, but not enough that im going to cry about it. I have my network -Yoink- in order, clear my save game information and restart my box every time there is an update and so far every update has only made things better.

I honestly have to agree. I still can’t for the life of me understand what the hell has happened here. I hope one day we get a disgruntled ex-employee who will sit down and just tell the story of how the massive failure of a game came to be. I’m about as hardcore of a Halo fan as you will find. I think the overall story is one of the best stories ever told in gaming. The multiplayer has always been/is (when it works) the best online shooting experience you can have. That said, Halo MCC is the biggest disappointment I have ever had when it comes to games. I’ll always remember launch night when I got online at 12:01 AM EST with my 3 best buds to play some Halo 2 Anniversary matchmaking. I had the next 3 days all cleared up so I could just play the hell out some old school Halo. It should have been one of the best gaming moments I have ever had. We didn’t find a single match that first night. I then spend days, weeks, and what will now be months waiting for the game to get fixed.

Don’t get me wrong, 343 has been pumping out the patches and the game is in a much better state then it was a month ago. That’s great, but this is Halo. This isn’t some little Sony racing game that nobody cares about. This is Halo. This is the franchise that is the sole reason we even have an Xbox One to play on today. This is a franchise with so much amazing history. I in no way believe that 343 didn’t know this game had issues before they sent it out the door. I just don’t believe it. If you turn the game on and play it you’ll find plenty of things that need fixing. I’ve run through all 4 campaigns once and have around 300 matches played in MM and I’ve seen it all. Surly 343 played their own game before sending it out the door? So that means someone made the decision to send the game out broken and fix it later. Whoever that person is should be fired. I don’t want them anywhere near my beloved franchise anymore. There is also the fact that so many 343 employees have just gone dark on social media. How hard is to answer some fan questions? How about some transparency here? Where the hell is Phil Spencer? How about he sits down and just has a real conversation about what happened/what is going on here? What is being done and is it reasonable to ever expect this game to work? As a huge Halo fan this is just so frustrating. I’m tinkering away at my holiday games waiting for the one game I REALLY WANT to play to get fixed.

What should be done? In the first week I thought the people saying Halo 5 should be free for those who bought this game were insane. After a month with a game that just doesn’t work right I tend to agree with those people. Every single person that bought and stuck with Halo MCC should get a free download of Halo 5 next November. That’s the best way to handle this disaster of a launch. Some people think we will get a few maps when everything is fixed. As a guy who will still be here when the dust settles that would be fine with me. I’d love another 3-4 remastered maps to play on. I just don’t think the overall population will be happy with that. 343 and MS have one chance to make this whole thing right. They better not mess up or I’ll be genuinely worried about my favorite gaming franchise. Why would people come back? I’ll be here, but I’m just a fool in love!

Thanks for the enlightening, life-altering advice, but no one is saying that this is an ‘end-of-the-world’ problem. Most of us operate in the immense grey area diving lethargy and hysteria, and we’ve every right to be upset that 343 has failed a hardcore fan base. I understand that this isn’t life-altering, however, I’m not going to pretend that spending on the order of $500 to play a game that’s busted af is “all good”. As a consumer, I expect the products I purchase to function as advertised, and if they do not, I might leave negative feedback on the retailer’s site or, I don’t know, on the company’s forums.

Glad the game is working pretty well for you. However, based on other comments in these forums, on Twitter, and other gaming sites, the gap between how the game should function and how it is functioning is unacceptable.

This is the greatest thing I’ve ever read as my friend and I are entering my 53rd minute searching for a match in mcc while we try to find a way to call and -Yoink- upon 343…

wtf is yoink? XD

TS is 100% right.

Still waiting to hear how they are going to attempt to make up for this.

How dare you. How dare you. I’ll have you know my 18 year old brother was hospitalized sunday thanks to this game. Staring at the searching… and “found players” on screen while listening to 343’s E3 promises for hours made him snap. It induced some sort of extreme trauma and split his personality. One side learns to cope day by day. The other… let’s just say he isn’t buying Halo 5.

Couldn’t agree more. This has been such a rip off from release that they’ve damaged the franchise. They either don’t give a rats*** about their customers, or they are so grossly incompetent that they don’t deserve to have such a solid title in their care. Microsoft should be putting serious heat on these clowns. Lawsuit threats need to be coming down, that kind of thing.

Only problem with that is, if you thought this game was broken, imagine how broken H5 would be if it was given free to a majority of the community. They would give three -Yoink- less about that game, since they give two -Yoink- less about MCC.

This is what happens when people let games that are in beta stages out into the real world, all for the good old marketing. Gotta make the money boys, welcome to the new age of gaming.

Welcome to the party.

Good thread and some comments.

Another aspect is the media! OMG, the media.

Leading up to the release of MCC, IGN had a special space dedicated to the top of its website for all the news, interviews with video of the maps and game play sitting with 343 team members. Polygon had info. Joystiq… all of them. WHERE ARE THEY NOW!?

Its like a media silence embargo when guys sign an NDA when seeing early game details only now they don’t want to keep it real by reporting what’s going on as not to ruffle any feathers. These forums are a joke and are so filled with info its hard to believe 343 sits by and is as quiet as they are.

I’m not big on Twitter, but have been trying to politely and in an educated way ask some of these media guys for interviews or write ups to bring more attention to what’s going on. The media was there for the hype, but now that it’s a flop, its as if they’re afraid to come out and say “hey,we saw it early and pimped it, but now feel your pain and are here to dig in and be due diligent in reporting the news.”

This whole notion that some are making in here by relating this game being broken issue to an issue in reference to a car design failure is dumb. Bio and Triz were both making a funny analogy and it happened to be from a car design and engineering perspective. I know most of the guys who are posting in this thread and none of them are that delusional to relate a real life safety issue to a video game, so just relax. It was funny and accurate.

Reality- we have options as consumers. There is so much more meaning to this game for some of us than just the latest game out thats popular. Which in part brings out more emotion in our reaction to what it is. The fact that because of what this franchise started (Xbox LIVE) and who is responsible for building it currently, I’d like to think they were handling us better as supporters of that community. I personally am not that interested in Halo 5 anymore because of this. The beta will go live during my holiday vacation and I’ll check it out, cause I paid $60 for it. But I’ll be digging more into Destiny with my spare time this month.
