Okay so we all saw the new Halo Infinite trailer at E3 2019 but I’ve heard that trailer is the opening of the game, ummm what? That leaves so many questions but I only have one. If Infinite is set in the year 2560 (correct me if wrong) and if anyone remembers that in a live action trailer for Halo 5 a woman from the UNSC say’s that the Master Chief is dead on October 27 2560 does that mean the Master chief will die in Halo Infinite or will Halo 7 take place a few months after Infinite?
Just my random question but I think it’s a pretty good one.
The E3 trailer from 2019 didn’t show us anymore than the one from 2018 besides a release timeframe. However historically Halo trailers have been different from the game story in the past. Take the H2 trailer (and even the demo). In that Earth was getting nuked but in the final story that simply was not the case. Only the gate was excavated but it wasn’t a global-wide glassing that was depicted in the trailer. The gawdarn apocalypse was never put in.

Well he was floating in space for who knows how long, maybe they think he is dead.

Ah, I forgot about the Inside Xbox post E3 stream. Chris Lee does in fact say that Discover Hope is the opening sequence.

Infinite isn’t even out yet and you’re already talking about halo 7
It is disappointing but everything advertised related to Halo 5 never happened at all (will miss the poncho Chief in the ark).
It would be a nice touch, but we don’t even know how long Chief is floating in space and whatever happened before that. I guess we will play a prologue that shows the events before the discover hope trailer and then the game starts as the Halo Infinite. It is just crazy the game starting with that random Marine and Chief with a different armor be the first sequence of the game, without any explanation of what happened before.
Maybe we just landed in a three years later after Halo 5 and we have to discover what happened playing the game as the events are being cleared up. It kinda supports what 343 is saying about mystery and discovery which makes me positively intrigued.
With the trailer from E3 2019 being the start of the game, the game takes place after 19/09/2561, as this is when Chief’s GEN III armour was last updated by Halsey, according to his visor while it is booting up. Halo 5 took place near the end of 2558, so it’s been at least three years.
We barely know anything about Halo 6, so we can’t even guess about Halo 7.

Think of it this way. Chiefs death was a lie by ONI. Halo Infinite takes place sometime after 2561 when his armor was modified so obviously at this time the Chief wasn’t dead and people in the UNSC, like our new pilot friend, are in awe of his presence. So all the fun stuff like Chief being a traitor or dying was a lie and a cover up by ONI.
For anyone who is interested, Infinite will take place on Installation 07. I’m hoping this will introduce the Precursors, that is if they aren’t all flood forms.
If it’s the opening, they’ll simply address your continuity concerns via flashbacks/exposition/etc.
No shortage of ways to retroactively fill in the lines on a story.
