Halo 5’s story was meant to be the most dramatic in the franchise but yet i didn’t find any of it dramatic. Have i missed something or do other people feel the same. If you thought it was dramatic please tell me which bits were.
It is pretty much accepted by everyone that the marketing was extremely misleading and that the campaign was one of the weakest in the franchise.
Thousands or perhaps millions of people were killed by the guardians, Chief was meant to be mourning and testing his beliefs, Blue team were meant to question if there leader was sane or not, Lock and Osiris were meant to hunt down a galactic Hero.
Emotion does show up every once in a while and we do see hints of what the game was meant to be but it just doesn’t really happen, for the darkest Halo yet it was very mild, in my book Reach or ODST did far better setting an emotional tone.
The ad campaign really didn’t put out the right vibe. The Chief vs. Locke thing boiled down to a misunderstanding, and a single cutscene. Similarly, there really didn’t seem to be any kind of conflicting opinion or conflict in the game, as even the main villain, Cortana, didn’t want to harm Chief. Although, credit where it’s due, I liked the team mechanic and the inclusion of the lore into the games.
Not a lot of drama in my opinion. The storytelling as a whole was lacking. Expected better, then again this is the middle story of a trilogy. We’re not being introduced to settings/characters and there is no conclusion. Halo 6 will really need to step up it’s game, literally, and focus more on the story to pull all of this together. Again, just my opinion.

Halo 4 and 5 arent part of a trilogy.
You had the radio message of the woman at Meridian Station crying out where everybody is and the implied death of millions of beings, but either than that? Not much else.
To be honest i felt the same way with halo 4. Not trying to say 343 are bad but bungie did the campigns much better. I recently played through halo3 and got upset multiple time one of those moments being sgt johnsons death ( think i spelt his name wrong). I even found the cinematic in halo 3 with chief finding cortana more emotional than her death scene at the end of halo 4 (not that her death means anything now). And in my opinion i wish they just ended chiefs story at the end of 3. Some people will disagree but i thought it was a perfect to end his story.
I think the campaign was great. However, the way they marketed it was desperate. It made the actual story kind of a let down. Don’t get me wrong, the story was fantastic. But they made it seem like something it wasn’t.

True, with all the build up of where it was going was more like what the public sees as going on. Chief being killed and then hunted by Locke was just for the public to know. The showdown between them was nowhere close as the trailers had depicted it to be. There was never really any moment where he was depicted as a traitor in the game, simply confused and the other spartans were just trying to get to him to deliver Intel before he helped Cortana. Watching all the old trailers out seems as if they changed the direction on where they wanted the game to go about half way through it.
campaign was a let down considering the hype regarding chief v Locke. But with Cortana as the new enemy, and humanity once again backed up against a wall, and a Halo ring in the picture for Halo 6, I for one am VERY curious about what will happen in the next campaign.
so yes, sign me up that Halo 6 purchase
It’s like they advertised The Hunt for Red October and then showed us Crimson Tide. Well, except Crimson Tide actually had some decent, tense moments.

Even it were a trilogy why do people always go on about the middle is something hard to write. I mean sure the will be trilogies were the middle is bad but when I look Empire strikes Back, The Two Towers, Dead Space 2, Mass Effect 2, The Dark Knight, Halo 2 as some example that just popped into my head right now, I don’t see why being in middle of trilogy is some sort of excuse. Just putting my 2 cents out there.

In my opinion Crimson Tide is awesome so even the marketing was misleading hypothetically the end product was still good. I can’t not say the same however for Halo 5.

Then why did 343 say that Halo 4 began the “Reclaimer Trilogy” ?

I’m pretty heartless so that didn’t bother me. But the one game that got a, SINGLE, tear from me, was at the ending of Assassin’s Creed Revelations. People hated that game the most in the series, but that game was a great ending (in my opinion).
Also, no Halo game has ever felt emotional to me. Except for when Foehammer dies (even though no one seemed to care) and when Johnson dies.
If they had just marketed the game correctly, people would be a lot more pleased. Heck, I wish they hadn’t have even shown us what a Guardian is. Imagine how cool it would have been, seeing that Guardian rise from the ashes of Meridian, if we had no idea such a thing was ever going to happen. The marketing simply should have focused on the background of Locke and the possibility of Cortana’s return. All the past Halo games didn’t need a crap ton of marketing to get people’s interest. Seeing Master Chief on the cover was enough.

A long while back, they did mention it being the “Reclaimer Trilogy” however it has since been changed to the “Reclaimer Saga” as to imply that they intend to do more than just 3 games. Eventually, they want to do away with having a numbered halo and just stick to names. So we might not even get a Halo game with a 6 after it, but rather a name. They moved towards that with Halo 5: Guardians.
This also leads to the speculation that the next “Halo” will be a massive extension of Halo 5, adding in a whole new campaign while mostly sticking with the multiplayer we have now as they continue to update and improve it.

And I can understand the change in title. Although I could easily picture a game titled Halo 6, I certainly couldn’t imagine a game ever being titled Halo 7. And as far as the extension concept, I agree. I think the gameplay itself with its spartan abilities, ADS, and Warzone will be practically identical. However, I do hope for an improved story and splitscreen.
