343 rubbing hands together maniacally:
He doesn’t know about the NEW set of cat ears and the matching cat tail to go with them.
Dang you’re right. I’ll go get my wallet…
I don’t think relying on community maps would be a bad thing. Honestly it’d be one more way to reduce labor costs. Which is why if they start relying on community made maps I would expect the creators should be entitled to some form of recognition/recompense. I’m sure 343 could use TOS to simply yoink content, but it would be a good form of community engagement if they didn’t take the despot route.
Anyone who thinks S2 battle pass is worth based on S1 must be elevated more than snoop dog in a hot air balloon.
If that might be the case, forge better be one of the best iterations it can be. We already seen some teases of its capabilities, so it could be in a good spot.
I do agree that it’s stupidly lazy of 343 to let the community create the maps, especially considering we’re only getting 2 maps so far this year.
Weren’t they built from the ground up by Microsoft? I doubt they care.
I’m probably being very hopeful.
But Forge in Halo 5 was extraordinary. You only have to go through the ForgeHub galleries to see what people (with talent) could do.
Add in a terrain editor of some sort. Better fluids (eg. water, lava). Better lighting options. Remove the sometimes jarring effect of phased object textures (you know, where the edges would have a weird shimmering texture clash). And some sort of decal application system.
And literally, the only thing standing in the way is feeding enough objects / assets to the library to keep up.
I guess I’m pretty hopeful that Forge is going to bridge the gap between map play tool and full blown map editor.
And we can only imagine the possibilities if scripting steps up to the plate…
I’m not sure we’ll see no new maps after Forge releases, but I do think we’ll get a huge influx of Forge maps added into matchmaking. Bungie did that with Reach. 343 has done it with Halo 5 and Halo 2 Anniversary.
You forgot one Variable
Given how unstable the games net code and Engine are…
Given the history of the game… Even with an open beta in season 2… Even with all the testing… Forge can still be broken or break with a future update…
I hope it doesn’t but I trust Amber Heards mental Stability and mood swings .ore than Halo Infinites foundation.
I get it, i truly do get the annoyance of 343’s constant messing up of launches. But i feel it’s just unfair to compare Halo 2 to a modern AAA game. Because that was a different age, pre-HD graphics, a time where AA games were common because it was just plain easier to make games during that time.
Now a Halo 3/Reach/4 comparison makes more sense, as they are largely in the same wheelbarrow of goals and features and just the same generation.
I disagree you can argue that with the graphics and sound but not the net code the d sync the lack of game modes and content. Not to mention so much more. This game has been in development for longer then any other halo game. Other companies can put out better looking and playing games in half the time with half the team but this is all 343 can muster???
These issues can be avoided with an appropriate implementation where the source code and dependencies are easy to understand and properly documented. In addition to that, an appropriate amount of testing is also required in order to detect issues and to ensure that the implementation meets the desired quality standards.
Yea, however the whole foundation of Infinites Code is such a crap show that a minor update creates a cascade affect of problems. That’s what 343 said directly.
They basically just had Tech Debt and keep writing over it hoping it works. It’s one of the reasons something as simple as a Store UI is so hard for them to re do
The amount of spaghetti code they did and have to sort through just to get to one thing and change something else is beyond unstable…
That’s why I worry about Forge. Like everyone is saying it’s going to save Halo, but like I said Given this games history and all the extensive testing they do all the Betas they do… That doesn’t mean anything when the product goes live and it’s running on top of messy code and breaks.
Im not holding my breath for a smooth launch of Forge and I do expect it to be delayed further.
Which honestly brings up a question. Had the 2nd season not been extended Season 3 would have been here towards latte August, early September… thus bringing Forge.
I wonder If the the season was delayed but Forge was “on Track” why not just release it during season 2 in September like it was originally sapposed to come.
If it’s not ready fine understandable. But if they are simply holding it back for season 3 content. When it can be brought sooner… Well I can’t respect them for that choice.
This is probably why its hard to even add new playlists and why there is no ingame ranking.
It probably takes 6 months to update and test stuff.
And why is the MMR so bugged, sometimes you can see it, sometimes not.
I feel this game has no logic to it.
And if you are the host in a party you will have an advantage, we figured this out in our team.
The one hosting/searching for matches will have an advantage.
If the leaks on YouTube are any indication we’re going to be getting scalable objects, better textures, and improved scripting.
That’s interesting wasn’t the same thing happening in halo MCC or maybe I’m thinking of another game idk.
This part isn’t toward you but the other comments. Didn’t 343 claim infinite engine was built from the ground up but it turned out to just be halo 5s engine which is just halo 2a engine which is just halo 4s engine which is really just halo reaches engine??? Like no wonder they are having so many issues they dug them selves in to a hole and just keep making it deeper. Like I remember seeing something about part of the reason halo infinite had such a long development is because the engine was new when that really isn’t true???
Whole games are made in 6 months there’s no way it takes them 6 months to make and test 2 maps and 3 game modes.
The only way I can see them saving halo infinite is by scrapping there 10 year plan scrapping the games as a service model and scrapping battle royal and working with what they got and then actually making a new engine from the ground up and not modifing a engine from 2010 or even worse I’m pretty sure halo 3 is the same engine as halo 2 just refined and halo 2 is just halo 1s engine. I’m pretty sure Bungie made a new engine for reach but if I’m wrong it’s possible that halo infinite is running on halo CE just a heavy modification of a heavy modification of a heavy modification… And if that’s the case may OOOF
I would highly doubt that the store UI is a significant issue mainly due to UIs being in general relatively easy to implement. The process to add items to the store is most probably to add an additional item to the list and the Store UI is simply an interface where each icon in the store corresponds to one store offer. To add additional items, the only thing the devs have to do is to rearrange the user interface in order to accommodate more space for additional items, split the store into multiple pages or have some form a scroll down list. None of these solutions are particularly difficult to implement and as such, I do highly doubt that they have any particular issues with the store itself.
When it comes to technical debt, I would assume that it’s extremely difficult to pin down how extensive the technical debt is compared to previous Halo games mainly due to the fact that I haven’t seen the source code. In addition to that, it’s also not given that Halo Infinite is the most extreme example of technical debt, it could instead be the case that they strive for a more long term stable development approach by properly documenting the source code and striving to implement long term stable issues that are efficient and without too many dependencies.
Another hypothesis could be that they have instead that they have got a much larger emphasis on developing larger projects like Forge, COOP Campaign and mission replay in the campaign. In addition to that, it’s not that uncommon to see game development be surrounded by a lot of secrecy. Due to this, I would highly suspect that most of the planned features will only be announced at a late state in development relatively close to the actual release similar to the content for Season 2.
Second this. With battle passes being able to be purchased at any time, 343 will get my money when they make a finished game.
See you in 10 years ![]()
The talk 343 gave at GDC called “One Frame in Halo Infinite” was fascinating. You should be able to search it. It gave a little look at the differences between the H5 and HI engines. I can’t remember how many they said exactly, but there are still some processes that have awkward dependencies that they still need to go over. But the overall tone of the presentation was of confidence going forward.
Thanks for the tip, I will attempt to listen to this speech at a later point today. For anyone else that is interested, here is a link to a recording of the speech.
