Seriously, mark my words. I just love the thing. Driving at full speed, splattering, power sliding, donuts, coming back to base to give new teammates a ride because my gunner was killed in less than 2 secs… I can do it all. But here’s the problem. What’s with bad gunners? The only reason why warthogs are so easy to destroy (as most people claim) is because the gunner and drivers are no good, plain and simple. It’s mostly up to the driver in my OP. I’ve driven players on the same warthog for about 5-6 min straight without my gunner getting killed in a BTB or Dominion game, killing everything in sight, even ghosts.
Here’s my driving tactics: When I’m a gunner, I like the driver to slow down a bit and approach a good distance in front of the enemy so it’s easier to mow them down without getting hijacked. It’s a lot better than having your driver not have any sense of direction driving around ridiculously, making it harder to aim. I don’t like when I’m shooting through a group of enemies and the driver just keeps going forward and running away from the players I was just trying to shoot at. It’s easy, do a quick power-slide, TURN AROUND and finish off the rest of the players. They NEVER expect the warthogs to turn back around, never. Instead, most warthogs I see always circle back around the same direction they came from. Exile is a good example of what I’m trying to explain. I usually storm in front of the main base and right when I get to the point where the bridge is next to the tank is where I turn back around quickly and go back to kill the rest of the players/ghosts/warthogs/gauss/turrets etc. Works every time.
It’s not too rare to find good gunners. I’ve gotten paired up with a few decent players who actually know what they are doing. Getting paired with good driver is pretty hard to find nowadays if you ask me.
I agree. In reach, when i used to wait to do forge with a friend, i would always get in a warthog and explore forge world. Nothin like a relaxin drive.
Plasma pistol and plasma grenade being a choice at any given time
is what ruins vehicle combat NOT bad drivers or gunners.
Yes some players are bad at driving and gunning but thats not the issue.
When one player emp’s a vehicle and then throws 2 plasma nades is when the
vehicles are useless even with the operator spec on.
So remove the choice to pick the plasma pistol or plasma grenade as a
loadout. This would make the warthog useful again since people would have to get a PP/PG in a ordnance drop.
The Halo 4/Reach Hog is so grotesque. I liked the trilogy Hogs better. Not because of durability (that’s not my problem with the newer Hogs) but because of how they didn’t flip easily.

I was going to say something about the plasma pistol, but since most people complain about it so much all you can do is just deal with it. You can’t change it. It’s all about adapting.
Given the supportive nature of a Warthog driver, it’s my opinion that good drivers must be inherently humble; after all, their job is to create openings for the gunner and in return they receive nothing more than Assist medals. Based upon your boastful claims, I would have to conclude that you are not the best Warthog driver in Halo and have in fact missed the entire point of the enterprise. Or, to put it more plainly:
> The fact that you’re calling yourself the best means you aren’t.
Yes, I agree. I play with my brother online and he says he just drives so that he can splatter people and get across the map. People can never just stay in the warthog, they always ditch me and get out and I get out (when I’m the gunner) and if I am driving then I bring back the warthog and get other people. what do you think about the mongoose?
I couldn’t help but lol during your self praise when you said your gunner got killed in 2 seconds. That would be your fault bud not the gunner.
It shouldnt require a godly pair of driver and gunner to go positive using a warthog. There is something wrong when we have to blame the weakness of the warthog on less than perfect drivers. Halo 3 was not that imbalanced with its warthogs and neither should halo 4.
Biggest problem is PP and PG being available off spawn. Forces drivers to drive scared
My main problem, is how hardly anyone even gets in my hogs to begin with. But also, when someone does hop into the gunner seat, can’t shoot to save their lives. I constantly beep to inform them of an easy target, but they keep focus on the nubcake who just ran behind some cover, who they can’t hit. This is especially true for anyone who rushes to the Gauss gun on Exile, only to miss close to every golden opportunity.

I recall there being several amazing drivers in halo 3, and even in reach. The question is…where did they all go?
In truth, nowhere. Many of them still play halo 4, and suck at driving. But it isnt their faults, its the vehicles. They worked fine in halo 3, and 343i went and changed their mechanics to make them weaker for better “balance”, despite the fact that we can now spawn with stickies and pp’s and the DATR (Designated Anti-Tank Rifle).

The driving greats are still around and they still dominate behind the wheel… Most of them roll with full teams in BTB and unless you play with a full team yourself you are not going to run into them.
Driving is not that hard in Halo 4, you just need to use skill and intelligence to be successful.

I’m actually not that great of driver in Halo 4. In Halo 3 and Reach I was able to get my gunner at least a killing spree or more every time. I hate to blame my poor driving skills in Halo 4 solely on the Plasma Pistol/nades, but it is really hard to counter them, even from a distance.
